2 FOREWORDS The center of global economic gravity is shifting toward Asia. The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community has now engages ASEAN countries to the next step of a real economic community single market by maximizing a harmonious relations and respect national sovereignties. This process of regional economic integration is expected to narrow the development gap among ASEAN economies through quite ambitious economic treaties and free-trade agreements for Southeast Asia. Along with the economic growth, Indonesia is a country with a massive diverse range of societies and cultures ranks 39 th globally in terms of recognized world cultural heritage in With over 300 tribes and different ethnic groups, rich in artistic culture, making Indonesia is more focusing on economic development associated with tourism to the international community. By understanding the economics challenges above, the government bureaucracy of Sawahlunto, West Sumatra had transformed itself into a thriving customer driven government of cultural mining tourism city and successfully take a step forward making handwoven Silungkang Songket become part of national heritage and social and cultural assets. With certificate No.7062/R.MURI/VIII/2015 the Songket Carnival broke a national record for the most people wearing traditional Songket fabric attire from Silungkang by Indonesian Museum of Record (MURI). August 25 th 27 th, 2016 Sawahlunto International Songket Carnaval returns for a second time. This activity is a systematic effort to optimize local resources by maximizing tourism sectors especially handwoven Silungkang Songket. Handwoven songket plays a very special role for Silungkang society. Not only does it reflect one of their identities but also stimulating more creativity into an investment for Sawahlunto s economic development which also benefiting the Indonesian economy.

4 AGENDA OF ACTIVITIES SONGKET SILUNGKANG CARNAVAL Songket Silungkang Carnival once again will take place at The Old Town Sawahlunto in West Sumatra, August 25 th Around seventeen thousand of people will perform wearing handwoven Silungkang Songket with five thousand visitors are expected over the carnival. This event will also appreciated by the Indonesian Record Museum as the most people wearing Songket in Carnival Songket Silungkang Carnival is a reflection of Silungkang culture. It brings together professional craftsmen and amateurs, young and old. The carnival is a unique opportunity for ethnic communities to make their works more visible to domestic and International visitors. Within only two years, the carnival has become a landmark event in the cultural calendar of Sawahlunto City. And today, Songket Silungkang Carnival is become one of the biggest carnivals in Indonesia. Through the exhibition, there will be communication between craftsmen and manufacturers Songket with prospective buyers / buyer who not only business contacts, but have an impact on improving the quality and increasing the number of production. Besides that, the more important it is to unearth Songket Silungkang (Songket Archipelago) as local cultural heritage that has the potential economical, and able to become a benchmark in the face of competitiveness in the national and international markets ahead. 6 CLOSING The transformation of the city Sawahlunto from the mining town into a tourist town, as a logical consequence of the paradigm of "Sawahlunto Being Cultural Mining Tourism Destination", with the synergy of the tourism sector and the Small Industry Development focuses on the fascination Weaving Songket Silungkang, an effort to preserve Weaving Songket Silungkang as Art Local Culture Society rooted in Sawahlunto. The action of the Government Sawahlunto with "Sawahlunto International Songket Carnaval 2016" is expected to drive Songket Silungkang as the strength of the creative economy, with a creativity that adds value, as well as encouraging craftsmen for more creative, innovative and inspiring that can bring benefits to the development of Songket weaving National and can contribute to the economy at the local and national level.
