3 Norlex Cretaceous - The Main Challenges and Goals 3 1. UPDATE the NPD lithostratigraphic scheme 1988/ 1989 following 20 years exploration data 2. BUILD ON & COMPLIMENT existing schemes for the Norwegian Sector : - Mid Norway & Barent Sea (Dalland, Worsley & Ofstad,1989) - North Sea (Isaksen & Tonstad,1989) 3. CONSISTENT WELL DATABASE. 4. FOCUS REVISION - Shetland and Cromer Groups Norwegian Sea e.g. Vøring Basin - Chalk Group (re-instated group but limited revision of units following recommendations by Surlyk et al, 2003 Millennium Atlas) 5. DESCRIBE NEW UNITS and ENHANCE existing descriptions on stand alone lithostratigraphic criteria following International Stratigraphic Guide - well distributions, correlations, recent published data

4 How Norlex resolved these challenges 4 Conformable approach for all Periods (Neogene, Paleogene, Cretaceous Jurassic and Triassic) Evaluated current industrial opinions and schemes to get multi-lateral industrial concensus (various theme + general workshop meetings) Any revisions or new units should conform to guidelines defined in International Stratigraphic Guide (Salvador et al., 1994) Cretaceous units systemmatically defined following Norlex standard description template.

14 14 Norlex Cretaceous: Conclusions Broad industrial support for the proposed revised scheme following workshops and discussions Units conform to guidelines defined in International Stratigraphic Guide. Consistency with schemes developed for Neogene, Paleogene, Jurassic and Triassic. Comprehensive unit descriptions including systemmatic tops/thicknesss maps of all groups/formation/members in all released exploration wells. Units define on lithostratigraphic criteria (lithologies and wireline logs). Correlation and depositional information based on biostratigraphy (new StatoilHydro Norwegian Sector standard), seismic and published sedimentological core descriptions. Future potential for integration and linkage with other databases.
