The First Institute of Oceanography, SOA, Qingdao , China) AbstractThis paper analyzed the grain sizes of sediments at the Lingshanwan bating beach, Qingdao, discussed the characteristics of sediment distribution and identified the sediment transport trends. The results showed that the sediment type belonged to sand sorting from good to well. The hydrodynamic conditions in the study area were relatively stable. The study area was mainly influenced by wave, tide and coastal currents. The sediments in the northeastern study area were coarser than those in the southwestern area with relative poorer sorting. Trend analysis showed that the sediments transported southwestward along the coastline. The northeastern study area was eroded while the southeastern was deposited. With the large-scale development of economic zone along Qingdao west coast, erosion of the Lingshanwan bathing beach may be more serious in the future. Furthermore research should be launched continuously. This would provide fundamental data and reference to beach sand research and protection in this and other areas.
