8 (3) NORTHEAST EL HAMD BLOCK LOCATION: The block lies in the eastern side of the central part of the Gulf of Suez basin west and south of Belayim fields. Northeast El Hamd block occupies an area of about 359 km 2 and has 2781 km 2D seismic lines and 473 3D km 2 seismic, it comprises 18 (eighteen) wells. HYDROCARBON POTENTIAL: 1- SOURCE ROCKS: The most prolific source rock of the Gulf of Suez basin the argillaceous algae rich carbonates of the Cretaceous Brown Limestone (Duwi Fm) present throughout the area and tested by several wells, together with the Thebes Fm. represent the main sources for the oils found in the area. The Mokattam, Esna and Sudr Fms represent other co-sources of pre-rift age. In the Syn-rift sediments the organic rich shales and marls of the lower Rudeis Fm. represent also a fair source. The secondary migration was studied in detail in the regional study covering the central province of the GOS performed by ENI in The 3D basin modelling performed at that time shows the migration pathways coming from the deep trough of the South of Belayim land field moving along the pre and syn-rift carries toward the area. 2- SEALS: The Miocene evaporates of Belayim and South Gharib Fms were the ultimate seal in the area, lateral and vertical seal were provided by the pre-rift and synrift series tested by the nearby wells, these seals were ranging from the aforementioned Belayim and South Gharib Fms to the carbonates of Kareem, Thebes and Sudr Fms, and shales of Esna Fm. Seals related to such Fms. and lithology are proven to be working also in the nearby Belayim field, where several O.W.C's have been recognized in Matulla, Wata, Raha and Nubia 1 NORTHEAST EL HAMD

9 reservoirs. This fact suggested the presence of different blocks separated by faults, which bring into contact lithology with different permeability thus creating a sealing effect by juxtaposition. 3- RESERVOIR ROCKS: The pre-miocene Matulla sandstones represent the main target in the area; the presence of such reservoir is proven by all the nearby drilled wells. Additional potential come from Cenomanian and Turonian sandstones together with the Nubia Formation (best reservoir in Gulf of Suez). Summary of the Wells: South Feiran-1 well (2004) The well target was to test the sandstones of the Motulla Fm. that represent as a known reservoir in the area, already producing from the Belayim field located a few Km away to the NE. the thickness of Matulla encountered was 112m. but unfortunately no hydrocarbon was found, the drilling was seased within the Wata Fm. and the well was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The negative result of the S. Feiran-1 well can be explained on a preliminary basin that the lower- than- expected targets depth due to velocity problems and miss-picking driven by the very much noise and multiples affected seismic especially in the strike direction, the structural geometry of the tilted block seems confirmed along the dip direction (NE-SW), however the presence of a non-forecasted strike-slip fault may explain the relative low, this result will lead us to partially review the geo-structural model of the area. EGE-1 well (1985) The primary objective was the Nubia sandstone with secondary objectives anticipated in the upper Cretaceous Matulla, Wata and Raha formations. EGE-1 well did not reach the primary objective, the Nubia sandstone, due to the loss of the lower section of the drilling string. No indications of hydrocarbons were encountered throughout the drilled section. Only minor 2 NORTHEAST EL HAMD

10 gas levels were encountered in the lower Miocene, Eocene and upper Cretaceous. The well was P&A as a dry hole. C4CE-1 well (1985) The C4CE-1 well was drilled to test the reservoir and hydrocarbon producing potential of the Miocene sands believed to extend westwards from the Belayim Marine oil field. The well penetrated the Early Miocene-Rudeis reservoir section and proved 192 ft of net sandstone with porosity of up to 22%. There were no hydrocarbon shows in the Rudeis sandstones and log analysis confirms them to be water bearing. The well was terminated in Rudeis Fm. reaching a total depth to ft; so the well P&A as a dry hole. C4CB-1 well (1984) The primary objective of the well was the Kareem sandstone which is oil productive in the Belayim Marine field to the southeast. A secondary objective was postulated in the basal Miocene Nukhul sandstones. The well was drilled to ft in Eocene sediments. Only the Kareem objective section of the well was penetrated, the Nukhul section was not present, probably due to non-deposition. No significant hydrocarbon shows were observed while drilling the Eocene limestone and in sidewall cores taken in Rudeis limestone, however log analysis shows these zones to have high water saturations. The disappointing results in the Kareem and Rudeis sections of the well suggest that the well was located at the extreme westward limit of the Belayim marine turbidity fans and has thus encountered only the most distal portion of the anticipated sandstone reservoirs. C4SA-1 well (1983) The well was drilled to test Belayim, Matulla and Nubia reservoirs. Fair to weak oil shows in the uppermost part of the Matulla Fm., subsequent RFT's proved the formation to be tight. A formation water sample without hydrocarbons was recovered. They had no shows in Nubia sands and Kareem section, and the logs confirmed them to be wet. The well was drilled to NORTHEAST EL HAMD

11 ft in Nubia C and P&A as a dry hole. The absence of recoverable hydrocarbons is probably due to a combination of lack of updip seal at the western boundary fault, and the problem of sourcing the Kareem and Nubia sands (according to CONOCO' report). II 84-2 well (1981) The primary objectives were the Nubian sandstone and the Matulla/Raha sandstones, while the Thebes Fm. was a possible secondary objective. The Paleozoic and Early Cretaceous Nubian sandstones were found to be water wet. Poor oil shows accompanied by gas readings were recorded while drilling the limestone of the Thebes Fm. with 63 units of total gas in the interval ft to ft. Log evaluation of this interval revealed high water saturation, and the immovable nature of the hydrocarbons described. The well P&A as a dry hole after reaching Nubian C&D sandstones at ft. East Bakr M-1 well (1964) The objective was Miocene and Pre-Miocene porosities. Shows of oil and gas encountered in the lowermost part of Miocene section drilled as well as those in the Eocene were not so encouraging. Drill stem test never recorded oil. Acidization of the Eocene limestone caused the recovery of 14 bbls of 28 API oil from the tubing after swabbing well for 14 hours.
