The rock material of rooms carved into the cave and palazziate room at Sant'Angelo Luxury Resort is the typical tuff quarries of Matera. It is a sedimentary rock of marine origin formed in a period of sixty-five million years ago (Upper Cretaceous) and two million years ago (Lower Pleistocene). Here once it was the sea, and on the walls of these environments might find shells in the process of fossilization as evidence of an ancient seabed. The tuff is a porous material, insulation and salt and these distinctive features make it an even stone. By its very nature tends to imprison external water vapor and this feature may result, in particular climatic conditions, the presence of signs of moisture.
