1 TEAM MAK EAGE SC Project Title: Technical Paper Presentation at the 79 th EAGE CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION and Society Of Petroleum Engineers Europec in Paris, France (11-16 June 2017). Project Description: Research in Albertine Graben an important location for oil and gas in Uganda. The research was conducted in the Semliki basin located in Ntoroko district in Western Uganda and it lies within the Albertine graben South and East of Lake Albert basin on the shores. It is part of the western arm of the East African Rift System and is bounded by the eastern escarpment to the east and south and by River Semliki to the west. The Graben has undergone several tectonic episodes of both extensional and compressional regimes. Evidence of stress regimes oblique and perpendicular to the boundary faults is seen through the geometry and orientation of the fault systems defining the basins in the Graben. Sedimentation produced the probable source rocks like clay, Albertine Graben rocks such as fine to medium sands, and potential cap rocks such as gypsum and clay which were deposited along bedding planes and along vertical fractures. Tectonic activity led to formation of faults and anticlines which act as traps. The presence of the various oil seeps suggests the availability of migration pathways; the seeping probably occurs along the fractures. Hence the area has a complete petroleum system. With presence of all working petroleum systems in the Albertine graben, the research aimed to determine original fluids-in-place based on static pressure data. This was done by use of the Albertine Graben monitoring techniques, which relates the original oil, gas, and water in the Albertine Graben to production volumes and current pressure conditions and fluid properties. The data obtained was used in construction of a computer model of the Albertine Graben to understand how to improve estimation of reserves and making decisions regarding the development of the field, predicting future production, placing additional wells, evaluating alternative Albertine Graben management scenarios as well construction of the paleodepositional environment.

2 Our models represent the physical space of the Albertine Graben by an array of discrete cells, delineated by a grid which are both regular and irregular in 3-D to provide a static description of the Albertine Graben, prior to production. Seismic to simulation was done for the quantitative integration of all field data into an updateable reservoir model built by the team members. Key techniques used in the process include integrated petrophysics and rock physics to determine the range of lithotypes and rock properties, geostatistical inversion to determine a set of plausible seismic-derived rock property models at sufficient vertical resolution and heterogeneity for flow simulation, stratigraphic grid transfer to accurately move seismic-derived data to the geologic model, and flow simulation for model validation and ranking to determine whether the model that best fits all the data. To further implement the reservoir, a sort of ground trothing where the team members acquired structural and stratigraphic logs from logs and the data was interpreted by use of, Integrated Platform for Earth Exploration- Oasis Montaj Geosoft Petrel, a Schlumberger window owned application software intended to aggregate oil Albertine Graben data from multiple sources. The software used in the exploration and production sector of the petroleum industry. It allows the user to interpret seismic data, perform well correlation, build Albertine Graben models, visualize Albertine Graben simulation results, calculate volumes, produce maps and design development strategies to maximize Albertine Graben exploitation. Risk and uncertainty can be assessed throughout the life of the Albertine Graben. It provides a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi- disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters. EAGE TEAM MAK SC started their research in oil and gas in Team members had to think outside the box and came up with basin evaluation model based on The Chapter through the President and the project team leader Mr. Balyesiima Mustaqim applied for the Team Total Grants- a TOTAL S.A platform that offers funds every year to outstanding university team projects from allover the world. Team Mak EAGE SC competed with other teams from Europe, Asia, Australia and South America in the Dream Ticket category for a share of 41,000 Euros in funding. The Dream Ticket grant provides support for geosciences and petroleum engineering student associations to complete study trips, international conference participation or professional development activities.

4 Team Mak EAGE SC was selected for funding to enable the team members travel to Porte De Versailles, France and Present their research papers to a technical audience of more than 5,000 oil and gas professionals. The event will take place from June On addition to the funding, TEAM MAK EAGE SC Project was voted as the best and received more votes than any other Dream Ticket Project from the global Total Campus Audience and received a special addition gift of camera to document our adventures at the EAGE Conference and Exhibition TEAM MAK EAGE SC FIGURE 1.
