For specific criteria relating to disease tolerances and other requirements, the reader is referred to the certification regulations of the agency in question. 2 The first field planting utilizes laboratory-tested stocks which may be tissue-cultured plantlets, greenhouse-produced minitubers, stem cuttings, or line selections. Contact agencies for details as to types of stocks planted in their programs. 3 Term used by agency for seed potatoes for a particular year in the field: C=certified, E=elite, F=foundation, G=generation, N=nuclear, PE=pre-elite. 4 If lots originate at Cornell-Uihlein Farm, the first three generations (G1-G3) are also designated by a AU@ to denote source. 5,6 FY = Foundation Year (Wisconsin), FY = Field Year (Michigan)

5 2012/13 Florida Samples With Readings Not Exceeding Tolerances for Maine Foundation/Certified Seed Potatoes Test Samples: The Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources has no knowledge of the way in which the samples were obtained. All samples tested were collected by the grower and it is assumed that they were taken in a recommended manner. The percentage of disease reported is based upon the number of plants growing in Florida. Samples where no diseases plants were observed does not mean that the seed is free of disease or disease causing agents, or varietal mixture, but that none was found during inspection. Maine Foundation Seed Potatoes, in addition to meeting the requirements of this test, must meet all of the requirements for certified seed and must be graded for shipment to meet one of the official grades for Maine Certified Seed Potatoes. Bacterial Ring Rot: This Post-Harvest test in itself is not designed to detect the presence or absence of the disease, Bacterial Ring Rot. The samples used are not large enough and the techniques used in these evaluations are not intended to be a check for this disease. It should be pointed out, however, that in order for a seed grower to sell Foundation Seed his entire operation must be free from Ring Rot. This ruling offers the buyer of Foundation Seed some additional protection against this disease. The # symbol printed after the generation number of a seed potato lot in this directory denotes said seed potato lot passed all the requirements of the Maine Seed Potato Certification Program but was produced on a farming operation on which Bacterial Ring Rot was detected in Intellectual Property Rights: Certain varieties may be protected under plant variety protection (PVP), utility patent, or other intellectual property laws. Productions of these varieties may require a license or other permission of the variety owner and it is the responsibility of producers to ensure that appropriate permissions are obtained. Any information provided in this directory regarding the protection of specific varieties is provided for informative purposes only and is not intended to act as a substitute for official sources of such information. Seed Class: The last column on the variety listing pages indicates the seed class: F = Foundation - Total virus is 0.55% or less FC = entered as Foundation Seed but only meets Certified - Total virus is 0.56% to 5% C = Certified - Total virus is 5% or less Averaging Samples: The "@" sign before "No. of acres" indicates that this data is an average of two or more tests. Emergence: If the Florida Test emergence count was less than 200, the certification in these instances will be based upon 2012 summer field inspection. If the sample was entered as Foundation, but the summer field reading was higher than 0.55% total virus, then the sample only qualifies for Certified Seed, which is shown under the Seed Class section as F/C. Generation Designations used in this booklet: Prefix to Generation number: G - Generation, N - Nuclear Suffix to Generation number: AB - Alberta AK - Alaska BC - British Columbia CA - California CO - Colorado FL - Florida MAN - Manitoba ME - Maine Seed Potato Board MI - Michigan MN - Minnesota MT - Montana NB - New Brunswick ND - North Dakota NE - Nebraska NY - New York PA - Pennsylvania PEI - Prince Edward Island QU - Quebec SK - Saskatchewan WV - West Virginia WI - Wisconsin Field Generations for Seed Potato Shipments: The Potato Association of America recommended that North American Seed Potato Certification programs use a uniform Generation designation in addition to their regular Generation designation. The designation FY, which stands for Field Year, has been added to the regular generation designation on tags and bulk certificates. Field Year represents the number of years the seed has been produced in the soil.
