National Roadshow Response the explorers agreed that the SEEGrid project for interoperability of precompetitive geoscience data was essential when it comes to long term benefits to aid future exploration effort in Victoria. 11 Key advantages of the GeoSciML transfer standard GeoSciML is fully compliant with ISO/OGC standards GML compliance gives us spatial referencing in 3D for points, curves (lines), manifolds (surfaces), and volumes GeoSciML is developed under the CGI commission of the International Union of Geological Sciences 11

12 We do not have enough data transfer standards We need ISO/OGC conformant, internationally endorsed data transfer standards for Geochemistry Geochronology Geophysics Geodesy Seismology Hydrogeology ISO/ OGC GeoSciML ChemML WaterML Geology And we need to coordinate their development to avoid a plethora of incompatible transfer standards 12 Geophysics

13 Link with GEON through igeon? GEON has some standards and development in data types and components that SEE Grid and AuScope activities are yet to explore and vice versa AuScope provides an Australia wide contact point for major Australian activities in the e-geoscience research space for the next 4 years (at least) 13

14 The greatest barrier The social one Right now we need the barriers between competition and collaboration to move forever in favour of collaboration The way forward is to collaborate globally to get the content and technical standards stabilised internationally 14
