2 A map can show what you might see along the way. A map can show where there are mountains, rivers and lakes. Maps use colors to show what is land and what is water. The land is green. The water is blue. Can you find a lake on the map? A road map helps show you the way to towns and cities. A road map has lines that show the roads, highways and railroad tracks. It uses dots and stars to show the names of the towns and cities. Can you find the name of your town on a map? A city map can help you find your way to different places in the city. The map key uses symbols to show where parks, schools and museums are located. Can you find the symbol of a hospital on the map? Important places and landmarks are drawn on some maps. Some maps show the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Can you find these landmarks on a map?
