2 INTRODUCTION Geography Part I is reproducible for classroom use only. It is a fun-way for students to learn America s geography. It is suitable for grades 3-7, English as a Second Language instruction, home schooling and students with special needs. Geography Part I consists of clearly outlined lessons and corresponding maps designed to eliminate preparation time. The focus is on teaching students the basics of American geography using illustrations, charts and maps. The pages of Geography Part I can be used for teaching, reviewing and testing. They can be used consecutively or randomly at different grade levels and can be made into transparencies for presentation to the whole class. Each page stands alone and can be used as a quick and easy filler activity. Geography Part I is based on the illustrated LearnSmart Map included in this workbook. This double-sided color map has the political map ( states, capitals, cities, rivers, lakes) on the front and the physical map ( mountains, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, points of interest, explorer ships) on the back. Students need the LearnSmart Map and the reference pages, also included in the workbook, to complete the worksheets. Bonus Many worksheets have a, and/or Project section. These require research by the student and encourage creative thinking and problem-solving. The answer key contains a short synopsis for these sections.
