3 Data product specifications: Daily 10 km Gridded Climate Dataset for Canada ( ) / Spécifications de contenu informationnel 1. Overview 1.1. Informal description The Daily 10km Raster Gridded Climate Dataset for Canada contains raster grids of daily maximum temperature ( C), minimum temperature ( C), and precipitation (mm) for the Canadian landmass south of 60 N. These grids were interpolated from daily Environment Canada climate station observations using a thin plate smoothing spline surface fitting method implemented by ANUsplin V4.3. Spatially explicit, high-resolution meteorological data are becoming increasing important as inputs to models in agriculture, hydrology and forestry. By providing spatial and temporal variations in precipitation and temperature at a daily time step, this dataset will allow the impacts of extreme events and conditions to be better understood, thereby allowing decision makers to best mitigate against harmful impacts. Spatially explicit, high-resolution meteorological data are becoming increasing important as inputs to models in agriculture, hydrology and forestry. By providing spatial and temporal variations in precipitation and temperature at a daily time step, this dataset will allow the impacts of extreme events and conditions to be better understood, thereby allowing decision makers to best mitigate against harmful impacts Data product specification - metadata This section provides metadata about the creation of this data product specification Data product specification title: Data product specification - reference date: Data product specification - responsible party: Data product specification language: Data product specification - topic category: Daily 10 km Gridded Climate Dataset for Canada ( ) April 16, 2015 Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada/Science and Technology Branch English ClimatologyMeterologyAtmosphere 1.3. Terms and definitions Feature attribute characteristic of a feature Page 3 of 10 Class description of a set of objects that share the same attributes, operations, methods, relationships, and semantics [UML Semantics] NOTE: A class does not always have an associated geometry (e.g. the metadata class). Feature abstraction of real world phenomena
4 Object entity with a well-defined boundary and identity that encapsulates state and behaviour [UML Semantics] NOTE: An object is an instance of a class. Package grouping of a set of classes, relationships, and even other packages with a view to organizing the model into more abstract structures 1.4. Abbreviations AAFC Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada 2. SPECIFICATION SCOPE This data specification has only one scope, the general scope. NOTE: The term specification scope originates from the International Standard ISO Specification scope does not express the purpose for the creation of a data specification or the potential use of data, but identifies partitions of the data specification where specific requirements apply. Daily Precipitation Title Alternate Title Abstract Purpose Topic Category Spatial Representation Type Spatial Resolution Geographic Description Supplemental Information Constraints Keywords Scope identification Daily Precipitation (aafc_stb_gridded_climate_prec) The daily precipitation represents the amount (mm) of precipitation received on a 24 hour period across a 63 year period ( ). These values are calculated across Canada in 10x10 km cells. To provide information that will allow users of the data to determine the daily precipitation in a given location. This product was created to support web mapping applications and analysis that require climatological records. climatologymeteorologyatmosphere grid Canada Data are subject to the Government of Canada Open Data Licence : Precipitation, Climate, Canada series 3.2. 7 4. DATA CONTENT AND STRUCTURE The Daily Gridded Climate Dataset ( ) is composed of three mosaic datasets one for each: precipitation, maximum temperature and minimum temperature. These mosaic datasets reference daily geotiffs for the entire temporal period within their respective folders of prec, tmax and tmin. Page 7 of 10
