rxiv: v1 [mth.ca] 1 Aug 018 Clulus on Dul Rel Numbers Keqin Liu Deprtment of Mthemtis The University of British Columbi Vnouver, BC Cnd, V6T 1Z Augest, 018 Abstrt We present the bsi theory of lulus on dul rel numbers, nd prove the ounterprt of the odinry fundmentl theorem of lulus in the ontext of dul rel numbers. The purpose of this pper is to study lulus on dul rel numbers. Unlike the multi-vribles lulus on the Crtesin produt of finite mny opies of the rel number field nd the omplex nlysis on the omplex number field, the generliztions of the order reltion on the rel number field plys entrl role in the theory of lulus on dul rel numbers. Hene, lulus on dul rel numbers seemd to be loser to the well-known single vrible lulus thn both multi-vribles lulus nd omplex nlysis. The min result of this pper is to explin how to develpop the bsi theory of lulus on dul rel numbers. In setion 1, we mke the dul rel number lgebr into normed lgebr nd introdue two generliztions of the order reltio on the rel number field. In setion, we define the differentibility in dul rel numbers, nd hrterize the differentibility by using the rel-vlued omponent funtions of dul rel number-vlued funtion. In setion 3, we introdue two types of integrls bsed on the two generlized order reltions nd prove the ounterprt of the odinry fundmentl theorem of lulus in the ontext of dul rel numbers. 1 Two generlized order reltions We begin this setion by relling some fts bout dul rel numbers. For ny two elements (x 1, x ) nd (y 1, y ) from the -dimensionl rel vetor spe R = R R, we define their produt ording to the the fololowing rule lled dul number multiplition: (x 1, x ) (y 1, y ) := (x 1 y 1, x 1 y +x y 1 ). 1
The vetor spe R with respet to the dul number multiplition is rel ssoitive lgebr, whih is lled the dul rel number lgebr nd denoted by R (). An element of R is lled dul rel number. Clerly, the dul rel number lgebr R () is both unitl nd ommuttive. We denote the multiplition identity (1, 0) by 1, nd the element (0, 1) by 1 #. Then every dul rel number (x 1, x ) of R () n be expressed in unique wy s liner ombintion of 1 nd 1 # : x = (x 1, x ) = x 1 +x 1 # for x 1, x R (), where Rex := x 1 nd Zex := x re lled the rel prt nd the zero-divisor prt of x, respetively. The dul rel number lgebr R () is not field nd hs mny zero-divisors. In ft, if 0 x R, then x is zero-divisor if nd only if Rex = 0 nd x is invertible if nd only if Rex 0. Moreover if x is invertible, then the inverse x 1 of x is given by x 1 = 1 Rex Zex (Rex) 1#. Definition 1.1 The rel-vlued funtion : R () R defined by is lled the norm in R () x := (Rex) +(Zex) for x R () (1) The dul rel number lgebr is normed lgebr with respet to the norm introdued in Definition 1.1 by the following proposition. Proposition 1.1 Let x, y R () nd R. (i) x 0, with equlity only when x = 0. (ii) x = x, where denotes the bsolute vlue of the rel number. (iii) x+y x + y. (iv) xy x y. Proof diret omputtion. Unlike the Crtesin produt of finite mny opies of the rel number field nd the omplex field, there re two generlized order reltions on R () whih re omptible with the multiplition in R (). Definition 1. Let x nd y be two elements of R ().
(i) We sy tht x is type 1 greter thn y ( or y is type 1 less thn x) nd we write x 1 > y (or y 1 < x) if either { Rex > Rey Zex Zey or { Rex = Rey Zex > Zey (ii) We sy tht x is type greter thn y ( or y is type less thn x) nd we write x > y (or y < x) if either { Rex > Rey Zey Zex or { Rex = Rey Zey > Zex We use x θ y when x θ > y or x = y for θ = 1,. By Definition 1.1, if Rex = Rey, then x 1 > y y > x; if Zex = Zey, then x 1 > y x > y. The following proposition gives the bsi properties of the two generlized order reltions. Proposition 1. Let x, y nd z be elements of R () nd θ = 1,. (i) One of the following holds: x 1 > y, y 1 > x, x = y, x > y, y > x. (ii) If x > θ y nd y > θ z, then x > θ z. (iii) If x > θ y, then x+z > θ y +z. (iv) If x > θ 0 nd y > θ 0, then xy θ 0. (v) If x > θ y, then x < θ y. Proof Cler. Differentition By Proposition 1.1, the dul rel number lgebr R () is metri spe with the distne funtion. If R () nd ǫ R, we use N(; ǫ) nd N (; ǫ) to denote the ordinry ǫ-neighborhood nd deleted ǫ-neighborhood of, respetively, i.e., N(; ǫ) = {x R () x < ǫ nd N (; ǫ) := N(; ǫ)\{. 3
For θ {1,, the set N θ (; ǫ) := {x N(; ǫ) x θ or x θ is lled the type θ ǫ- neighborhood of nd the set N θ (; ǫ) := N θ(; ǫ)\{ is lled the deleted type θ ǫ- neighborhood of. By Proposition1. (i), we hve N(; ǫ) = N 1(; ǫ) N (; ǫ). We now introdue the differentibility in the following Definition.1 Let D be n open subset of R () nd let D. (i) We sy tht f : D R () is type θ differentible t with θ {1, if for eh positive rel number ǫ > 0 there exist positive rel number δ > 0 nd dul rel number f θ () R() suh tht x N θ (; δ) D f(x) f() f θ ()(x ) x N(0; ǫ). The dul rel number f θ () is lled the type θ derivtive of f t, whih is lso denoted by df d θ x (). (ii) We sy tht f : D R () is differentible t if for eh positive rel number ǫ > 0 there exist positive rel number δ > 0 nd dul rel number f () R () suh tht x N (; δ) D f(x) f() f ()(x ) x N(0; ǫ). The dul rel number f () is lled the derivtive of f t, whih is lso denoted by df (). If f is differentible t eh point of the open subset dx D, then f is sid to be differentible on D. It is esy to hek tht if dul rel number-vlued f is type θ differentible t R (), then the type θ derivtive of f t is unique for θ {1,. Let S be subset of R (). A funtion f : S R () n be expressed s f(x) = u(x)+v(x)1 # for x = x 1 +x 1 # R (), where u(x) := u(x 1, x ) nd v(x) := v(x 1, x ) re two rel-vlued funtions of two rel vribles x 1 nd x, whih re lled the rel omponent nd the zero-divisor omponent of f, respetively. The following proposition provides n useful hrteriztion of differentibility for dul rel-vlued funtions in terms of their rel nd zero-divisor omponents. 4
Proposition.1 Let f : D R () be dul rel-vlued funtion given by f(x) = u(x 1, x )+v(x 1, x )1 # for x = x 1 +x 1 # R (), where D is n open subset of R (), u(x 1, x ) nd v(x 1, x ) re the rel omponent nd the zero-divisor omponent of f, respetively. Let = # D with 1, R. (i) If the first-order prtil derivtives u x1, u x, v x1 nd v x exist t ( 1, ) nd re ontinuous t ( 1, ), nd the following equtions u x1 = v x, u x = 0 () hold t ( 1, ), then f is differentible t nd the derivtive f () of f t is given by f () = u x1 ()+v x1 ()1 #. (3) (ii) If f is differentible t, then the equtions in () hold t = #. In this se, the derivtive f () of f t is given by (3). Proof The proof of Proposition.1 is similr to the proof of the fmous ft whih hrterizes the omplex differentibility by using Cuh-Riemmnn equtions. Foe exmple, let us prove (ii). If f is differentible t, then exists L = L 1 +L 1 # with L 1, L R suh tht for every ǫ > 0, there exists δ > 0 suh tht N(; δ) D nd x N (; δ) f(x) f() L(x ) x By dul number multiplition, we hve < ǫ. (4) f(x) f() L(x ) = u(x 1, x ) u( 1, ) L 1 (x 1 1 )+ +[v(x 1, x ) v( 1, ) L 1 (x ) L (x 1 1 )]1 #. (5) Let x = nd hoose x 1 suh tht 0 < x 1 1 < δ. Then 0 < x = x 1 1 = x 1 1 < δ, whih implies tht x = x # N (; δ). By (4) nd (5), we get ǫ > f( 1 +x 1 # ) f() L( 1 +x 1 # ) 1 +x 1 # = 1 [ u(x1, ) u( 1, ) ] { L 1 + x 1 1 [ v(x1, ) v( 1, ) ] 1 + L. (6) x 1 1 5
It follows from (6) tht for every ǫ > 0, there exists δ > 0 suh tht u(x 1, ) u( 1, ) L 1 x 1 1 < ǫ nd v(x 1, ) v( 1, ) L x 1 1 < ǫ whenever 0 < x 1 1 < δ. This proves tht u x1 ( 1, ) = L 1 nd v x1 ( 1, ) = L. (7) Similrly, let x 1 = 1 nd hoose x suh tht 0 < x < δ. Then 0 < x = (x )1 # = x < δ, whih implies tht x = 1 +x 1 # N (; δ). By (4) nd (5), we get ǫ > f( 1 +x 1 # ) f() L( 1 +x 1 # ) 1 +x 1 # { 1 [ ] [ ] u(1, x ) u( 1, ) v(1, x ) v( 1, ) = + L 1. x x whih implies tht for every ǫ > 0, there exists δ > 0 suh tht u( 1, x ) u( 1, ) x < ǫ nd v( 1, x ) v( 1, ) L 1 x < ǫ whenever 0 < x < δ. This proves tht By (7) nd (8), (ii) holds. u x ( 1, ) = 0 nd v x ( 1, ) = L 1. (8) 3 Type θ Integrls In the remining of this pper, θ lwys denote n element in the set {1,. Let f : S R () be funtion on subset S of R (). For onveniene, we will use f Re nd f Ze to denote the rel omponent nd the zero-divisor omponent of funtion f : S R (), respetively. Thus, we hve f(x) = f Re (x)+f Ze (x)1 # for x = x 1 +x 1 # R (). We sy tht the funtion f : S R () is bounded on S if both f Re nd f Ze re bounded on S ( R = R R). Let, b R () nd θ < b. The type θ losed intervl [,b] θ is defined by [,b] θ := { x R () θ x θ b. 6
Definition 3.1 Let [,b] θ be type θ losed integrl. A prtition P of [,b] θ is finite set of points {x (0),x (1),...,x (n) in [,b] θ suh tht = x (0) θ < x (1) θ <... θ < x (n) = b. (9) If P nd Q re two prtitions of [,b] θ with P Q, then Q is lled refinement of P. Let [,b] θ be type θ losed intervl. Suppose tht f : [,b] θ R () is bounded nd P = {x (0),x (1),...,x (n) is prtion of [,b] θ. For 1 i n, the length x (i) of the i-th type θ subintervl [x (i 1), x (i) ] θ is defined by x (i) := x (i) x (i 1). Clerly, x (i) θ > 0, nd x (i) is rel number if nd only if Ze(x (i) ) = Ze(x (i 1) ) for 1 i n. Sine both f Re nd f Ze re bounded on [,b] θ, both f Re nd f Ze re bounded on [x (i 1), x (i) ] θ for 1 i n. Hene, both sup i f := sup { f (x) x [x (i 1), x (i) ] nd inf i f := inf { f (x) x [x (i 1), x (i) ] exist s rel numbers for {Re, Ze nd 1 i n. Bsed on these fts, we define the type θ upper sum U θ (P,f) of f with respet to the prtition P to be U θ (P,f) = n i=1 n i=1 i=1 ( sup i ( sup i f Re +1 # ) supf Ze x (i) i f Re +1 # ) inf f Ze x (i) i θ = 1; θ = nd the type θ lower sum L θ (P,f) of f with respet to the prtition P to be n ( inf f Re +1 # ) inff Ze x (i) θ = 1; i i i=1 L θ (P,f) = n ( inf f Re +1 # ) supf Ze x (i) θ =. i i Then the following four sets { Uθ (P,f) P P θ, { Lθ (P,f) P P θ with {Re, Ze (10) reboundedsubsetsoftherelnumberfieldr, wherep θ isthesetofllprtitions of[,b] θ, i.e. P θ := { P P is prtition of [, b]θ. Hene, thesupremumsnd infimums of the four sets in (10) exist. Using these fts, we introdue the type θ lower integrl f(x) on [,b] θ in the following wy: f(x)d θ x nd the type θ upper integrl f(x)d θ x of f(x)d 1 x = sup { ReL 1 (P,f) P P 1 +1 # sup { ZeL 1 (P,f) P P 1, 7

If the type θ lower integrl nd the type θ upper integrl of f(x) on [,b] θ re equl, i.e., if f(x)d θ x = on [,b] θ, we denote their ommon vlueby θ integrl of f on [,b] θ. f(x)d θ x, then wesythtf is type θ integrble f(x)d θ xwhih islled the type Proposition 3.1 Let f : [,b] θ R () is bounded funtion, where θ {1,. (i) If P nd P re prtitions of [,b] θ nd P is refinement of P, then L θ (P,f) θ L θ (P,f) θ U θ (P,f) θ U θ (P,f). (ii) f(x)d θ x θ f(x)d θ x. (iii) f is type θ integrble iff for eh ε R () with ε θ > 0 nd (Reε)(Zeε) 0 there exists prtition P of [,b] θ suh tht U θ (P,f) L θ (P,f) θ < ε. Proof The proof of Proposition 3.1 follows from the definitions bove nd the properties of the supremums nd infimums. For exmple, let us prove (i) for θ = 1, i.e., L 1 (P,f) 1 L 1 (P,f) 1 U 1 (P,f) 1 U 1 (P,f). (11) The middle inequlity in (11) follows diretly from the definitions of type 1 upper nd lower sums. Suppose tht P = {x (0),x (1),...,x (n) nd onsider the prtition P formed by joining just one point x to P, where x (k 1) 1 x 1 x (k) for some k with 1 k n. Let α 1 (f ) := inf { f (x) x [x (k 1),x ] 1, 8
α (f ) := inf { f (x) x [x,x (k) ] 1, where {Re, Ze. The terms in L 1 (P,f) nd L 1 (P,f) re ll the sme exept those over the subintervl [x (k 1), x (k) ] 1. Thus we hve L 1 (P,f) L 1 (P,f) = [ (α 1 (f Re ) inf k f Re)+1 # (α 1 (f Ze ) inf k f Ze) ] (x x (k 1) )+ + [ (α (f Re ) inf k f Re)+1 # (α (f Ze ) inf k f Ze) ] (x (k) x ). (1) Sine we get α j (f ) inf k f for j {1, nd {Re, Ze, (α j (f Re ) inf k f Re)+1 # (α j (f Ze ) inf k f Ze) 1 0 for j {1,. (13) Using (13) nd the fts: x x (k 1) 1 > 0 nd x (k) x 1 > 0, we get from (1) tht L 1 (P,f) L 1 (P,f) 1 0 or L 1 (P,f) 1 L 1 (P,f). Similrly, let β 1 (f ) := sup { f (x) x [x (k 1),x ] 1, β (f ) := sup { f (x) x [x,x (k) ] 1, where {Re, Ze. Sine the terms in U 1 (P,f) nd U 1 (P,f) re ll the sme exept those over the subintervl [x (k 1), x (k) ] 1, we hve U 1 (P,f) U 1 (P,f) = [ (sup k + [ (sup k f Re β (f Re ))+1 # (supf Ze β (f Ze )) ] (x (k) x )+ k f Re β 1 (f Re ))+1 # (supf Ze β 1 (f Ze )) ] (x x (k 1) ). (14) k Sine we hve supf β j (f ) for j {1, nd {Re, Ze, k (sup k f Re β j (f Re ))+1 # (supf Ze β j (f Ze )) 1 0 for j {1,. (15) k It follows from (14) nd (15) tht U 1 (P,f) U 1 (P,f) 1 0 or U 1 (P,f) 1 U 1 (P,f). This proves tht (11) holds. 9
As orollry of Proposition 3.1 (iii), we hve tht if f = f Re +1 # f Ze is funtion on type θ losed intervl [,b] θ suh tht rel-vlued funtions f Re ndf Ze reontinuousonthe retngle[re,reb] [Ze, Zeb] R = R R, then f is type θ integrble on [,b] θ, where θ = 1 or. The lgebri properties of the ordinry integrl re still true for the type θ integrls. Proposition 3. Let θ = 1 or nd let k R () be dul rel number. (i) If f nd g re type θ integrble on [,b] θ, then f + g nd kf re type θ integrble on [,b] θ nd (f +g)d θ x = fd θ x+ gd θ x, kfd θ x = k fd θ x. (ii) If f is type θ integrble on both [,] θ nd [,b] θ, where θ < θ < b, then f is type θ integrble on both [,b] θ nd f d θ x = f d θ x+ f d θ x. (iii) If f, g : [,b] θ R () re type θ integrble nd f(x) θ g(x) for ll x [,b] θ, then f(x)d θ x θ g(x)d θ x. ProofBoth(i)nd(ii)reprovedbyusingProposition3.1, nd(iii)isprovedby using the definitions of type θ inegrls nd the properties of the two generlized order reltions on the dul rel number lgebr. We finish this pper with the following ounterprt of the odinry fundmentl theorem of lulus in the ontext of dul rel numbers. Proposition 3.3 Let, b R () nd θ < b, where θ = 1 or. (i) If f : [,b] θ R () is funtion suh tht the rel-vlued funtions f Re nd f Ze re ontinuous on the retngle [Re, Reb] [Ze, Zeb] R, then the funtion F(x) : [,b] θ R () defined by F(x) := f(t)d θ t for x [,b] θ is type θ diffrentil t eh [,b] θ nd F θ () = f(). 10
(ii) If f(x) : [,b] θ R () is differentil on [,b] θ nd the derivtive f (x) of f(x) is integrble on [,b] θ, then f (x)d θ x = f(b) f(). Proof The wy of proving Proposition 3.3 omes from the pplition of the lgebri properties of type θ integrls in Proposition 3.. Let us prove (i) to explin the wy of doing the proofs. By the definitions of type θ integrls, we hve θ b = d θ x = b for θ {1,. (16) Clerly, (i) holds if we n prove tht for eh positive rel number ǫ > 0 there exists positive rel number δ > 0 suh tht x N θ(; δ) [,b] θ F(x) F() f()(x ) x < ǫ, (17) where θ {1,. The proofs of (17) for θ = 1 nd θ = re similr, so we prove (17) for θ = 1. First, we hoose two positive rel numbers ε Re nd ε Ze suh tht 0 < ε Re < ǫ nd 0 < ε Ze < ǫ 3ε Re. (18) 3 Next, sine both rel-vlued funtions f Re nd f Ze re ontinuous on the retngle [Re, Reb] [Ze, Zeb] R, both f Re nd f Ze re uniformly ontinuous on the retngle [Re, Reb] [Ze, Zeb]. Hene, there exist positive rel number δ > 0 suh tht (t1 s 1 ) +(t s ) < δ f (t 1, t ) f (s 1, s ) < ε (19) for ll (t 1, t ), (s 1, s ) [ 1,b 1 ] [,b ] nd {Re, Ze. Let x N 1 (; δ) [,b] θ. Then x 1 nd x 1. Cse 1: x 1, in whih se, by Proposition 3. nd (16), we hve = = F(x) F() f()(x ) = f(t)d 1 t f() d 1 t = f(t)d 1 t f(t)d 1 t+ f(t)d 1 t f()(x ) ( f() ) d1 t [ f(t) f() ] d1 t. (0) 11
For = # 1 t = t 1 +t 1 # 1 x = x 1 +x 1 #, where 1,, t 1, t, x 1 nd x R, we hve (t1 1 ) +(t ) (x 1 1 ) +(x ) whih implies (x 1 1 ) +(x ) = x < δ f (t 1, t ) f ( 1, ) < ε for {Re, Ze, ε = ε Re ε Ze 1 # 1 f(t) f() 1 ε Re +ε Ze 1 # = ε. (1) It folows from (16), (1) nd Proposition 3. (iii) tht ε(x ) = whih gives Sine ( ( ε)d 1 t 1 [ f(t) f() ] d1 t 1 εd 1 t = ε(x ), [ ] ) ( ) f(t) f() d1 t ε(x ) for {Re, Ze.
