Use two details from the article to support your response. The main idea of paragraphs 1 through 3 on page 324 is that hurricanes form and grow by the way air moves into and through the storm mass. In paragraph 1, the author describes how warm air is drawn in and rises like a column. As the air cools it spreads out. The air within the storm begins to spiral as the result of the rotation of the earth.

This portion of the article explains the many scientific advances made to find and track hurricanes. Planes carry many instruments into hurricanes, satellites can pinpoint the location of a storm and record its speed and track it closely. Information gathered from all these sources is fed into a computer, creating models of hurricanes to more accurately predict where and when they may hit land. As a result, people are informed with more precision.

Use two details form the article to support your answer Paragraph 2 on page 322 relates to paragraphs 1 and 2 on page 324 because they discuss the formation of hurricanes. In paragraph 2 on page 322, the author describes how storms form over ocean waters as the result of how the air presses on the earth. This air pressure can be either high or low, and the article states, Low-pressure areas over warm oceans give birth to hurricanes. Paragraphs 1 and 2 on page 324 describe in detail how the two factors of low air pressure and warm ocean waters create hurricanes. Paragraph 1 describes a low-pressure area as a chimney drawing in warm air at the ocean s surface and then rising in a column. As the air rises it spreads out causing more air to be drawn in, growing the storm. Paragraph 2 describes how the rising air is affected by the rotation of the earth causing the air to travel in a spiral.
