Aruna Gauba 6th Grade
About My Awesome Mentor! Sarah Rice BS in Ocean Engineering U.S. Naval Academy Masters in Physics Loves kids and dogs, running, yoga, traveling, and all kinds of other science
My MAGICal Experience First encounter with a superconductor
My MAGICal Experience Heike Onnes discovered first superconductor with Mercury in 1911 Most superconductors were discovered by accident YBCO (Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide), high temp superconductor
My MAGICal Experience My experience working with a mentor Some highlights of my research and learning
What is a Superconductor? Zero electrical resistance Conducts electricity perfectly
BCS Theory In 1957 scientists Bardeen, Cooper, and Schrieffer came out with the BCS theory Cooper Pairs
Why are Superconductors Important? Power Transmission Particle Accelerator Maglev Trains MRI s
My Demo At my table I will be doing a demo on one of the amazing properties of a superconductor! Magnetic levitation!
Meissner Effect Superconductor expels the magnetic Magnetic levitation
Thank you!
Anne Friedman 7th Grade
About My Mentor Name: Pi-Chuan Chang From: Taiwan Job: Software Engineer Works at: Google Loves: Dogs (Including her dog and mine)
My MAGICal Experience I choose projects that I was interested in making Stories Platformer Easy Story Ideas of Projects to Make Hard Platformer Finding Bugs - Breakpoints, Error Message

Annie Zhang 7th Grade
About My Mentor Uma Menon Specializes in Computer Graphics Worked on many projects in Games, Simulation and Virtual Reality Has created educational games Her favorite subjects are English and Math!
My MAGICal Experience I am interested in animation and game design, so I decided to focus on 3-D modeling with Blender. Blender: high-quality, free 3-D modeling program. Difficulties: Blender is extremely complex! We are both unfamiliar with it. Thankfully, there are many helpful Blender tutorials that we used.
My Projects I explored 3-D modeling using Blender Multiple small projects, using tutorials: A teapot using curves and meshes A simple cat Basic fur for texture practice A low-poly animal Applying fur to a model

My Demo
My Demo I ll be modeling basic figures and textures upon request! You can interact with the models in 3-dimensions with Blender I ll show all the models I have made, to show improvement!
Thank you!
Ada Firth 8th Grade
About My Mentor Name: Jaelle Scheuerman Student at Tulane University in New Orleans PhD in computer science and cognitive science She likes science fiction
My MAGICal Experience I m really interested in artificial intelligence I wanted to make a chatbot We chose science fiction as the chatbot s theme Lots of technical difficulties Regular expressions were tricky
My Project My project is a chatbot called Spacebot We used CoffeeScript and Cloud Nine Based on a chatbot program called Hubot Responds to commonly asked questions You can chat with Spacebot on Campfire
My Demo You can chat with Spacebot here: com/room/ Wake up Spacebot here: Spacebot s code: Be aware that Spacebot can only respond to certain inputs! (next slide)
Inputs that Spacebot will respond to Hello (and other greetings) Bow tie/fez 42 or 47 Open the pod bay doors The Borg Yoda/Darth Vader Blinking What is your name? What is your favorite color? What is your favorite movie? What is your favorite food? What is your favorite book? How old are you? What is artificial intelligence? How are you? Where do you live? Why do you only talk about science fiction? Who is your favorite Doctor? Will you marry me? Do you love me?
Thank you!
Lainey Rogers 8th Grade
