There are so many things to see in space. Space can be very beautiful. MINI BOOK Space! Which looks the most beautiful to you?
Space has no limits. It never ends. Our moon looks like a gray storm cloud up close. Space is a huge area. It is home to our universe. Apollo 11 was the first spacecraft to land on the moon. 2 7
Space has many solar systems. Solar systems are groups of planets. Space is full of stars. There are billions of them. The closest star to Earth is the Sun. Our system has nine. 6 3
Astronauts fly in spacecrafts. The word astronaut means star-sailor in Greek. Spacecrafts must have air, water and food. Astronauts train for many years. 4 5
The ABC Shuttle Our Solar System has nine planets. The picture below shows how they appear in space. Read the planet names. Then write the endings for each of the names below. Notice that they are written in ABC order. Pluto Uranus Jupiter Earth Mercury Neptune Saturn Mars Venus 1. Ea 5. Ne 2. Ju 6. Pl 3. Ma 7. Sa 4. Me 8. Ur 9. Ve 7
A Perfect Star This star is symmetrical. Its two parts are balanced on either side of a line. If this star were folded in half, its two sides would match up against one another perfectly. Circle the stars below that are symmetrical. symmetrical star 8
Spacing Out Astronauts see amazing things in space. Read the words in the rocket below to find out some of the things they see. Now find those same words in the scene below. Circle them. Words can go across or down. k e w s h l r p r o c k e t f x h j o c y l m p v d m e t e o r w q e z b i o n e s t a r r n h w t y g h x s m rocket meteor star moon comet 9

Then say the words for the pictures as you read the story. sky Word Key stars spot illo of a kid looking up through a telescope moon looked sun ball light astronaut (Words in italics are picture words) Ronnie up at the. He could see the. He could see the full. It looked like a big. It very bright. But Ronnie knew it did not have its own. He knew the s shines on the so that we can see it. Ronnie has read a lot about the because he wants to be an. He hopes to go to the one day. 10
You re an Astronaut! Astronauts explore in space. They take notes on what they see. Make believe you are an astronaut. Below are your notes. Draw a map showing what you see. Your Space Map N W E S 1. Draw a moon in the north. 2. Draw three stars to the west of the moon. 3. In the southwest corner draw a spaceship. 4. In the southeast corner, draw a meteor. 5. In the east, draw a shooting star. 11

Space Smarts Read the questions about our solar system below. Then learn the answers! Look at the numbers under the blank spaces. Write the letter that goes with each number on the blank line. (2 page spread of the solar system with the planets labels. possibly put code on 2nd page and statements on the first page? Code is each alphabet letter lined up above each number, like 1 and A, 2 and B, and so on.) What planet has at least 22 moons? What is the smallest planet?
