SOFTWARE FOR OPTIMISATION OF THE KINETIC ENERGY AT THE ELECTRIC DISCHARGE MACHINING IN MAGNETIC FIELD Mihail TITU a a Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu Romania, tel mihail.titu@ulbsibiu.ro; mtitu@rdslink.ro Abstract The paper present a software for the calculation, modeling and drawing of the speed physicmathematics parameter and of the kinetic energy depending on the exterior magnetic field superposed on the electric discharge machining. The proposed and presented software MAGNETIC integrate in SIPREE does a physic-mathematics modeling and a graphic theoretical interpretation of the movement parameters and of the kinetic energy which characterize the movement of the electric charged particles in the erosive interstice, depending on the magnetic field intensity during the electric discharge machining with magnetic activation. 1. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS The unconventional methods that appeared during the last decades come to cover a gap, felt when some materials difficult to be processed by classic methods were introduced in the industry and when the complexity of the tasks increased, when new technologies were introduced and new productivity requirements had to be met, especially in the utensil departments. We are an age of strong development of the technology. Initially promoted as a result of some of the military and outer space industry requirements, the unconventional processing utensils and technologies, due to the advantages they provide, have rapidly spread in the developed industries of the western countries but also in our country. The dimensional means of processing is the most common means of processing with concentrated energies. In time, the researchers have experimented the activation of the analyzed process by using methods such as the magnetic activation wit exteriorly overlapped fields. We can assert that the researchers of this new domain of the unconventional technologies direct nowadays their research towards the increase of the processing productivity, towards the decrease of the transfer object costs and, of course, to the increase of the quality of the processed surface and of the dimensional precision. The processing by electric erosion is part of the most general processing methods using concentrated energies, in which the material processing is discontinuously and cumulatively produced, the dimensional processing action being the cumulated result of some elementary erosion processes, temporally and spatially concentrated between a transfer object and a processing object. The machine construction, considered to be an essential field for the development of the society, creates machine-tools with more and more higher performances. Under these circumstances, the technologies frequently used in the machine construction industry and also in other fields must be completed with new, better, ones, capable to assure an immediate technical progress. 1

This way appeared the unconventional technologies which are meant to complete and not replace the classic conventional technologies. The machining of metallic materials with high and very high hardness, and the needs of micro-machining determined the industrial development of the electro-technologies using various types of activation. The electric discharge machining can be successfully used in various industrial fields due to the advantages it offers. Jet, this method has a disadvantage a limited productivity, although these are now machines with more and more higher performances. In order to obtain an important increase of the technological parameter productivity the authors applied an exterior magnetic field, homogenous or non homogenous, directed and superposed on the electric discharge machining process by shape copying, and not only. Following serious theoretical researches, a physic-mathematics model, activation of the material removing process. This model represents an opinion regarding the physic-mathematics modeling of the process itself, the material removing physic process. All the theoretical data, indirectly and experimentally checked, have been obtained, modeled and optimized using a modeling and drawing software called MAIN SOFTWARE SIPREE. The movement parameters of the electric charged particles and of the calculated kinetic energy values have been modeled depending on the impulse time and on the pause time using the MAIN SOFTWARE SIPREE. It was considered that it would be interesting to do a modeling if, among others, the movement parameter speed and of kinetic energy as parameter strictly bound to the technological parameter productivity, depending on the values of intensity of the magnetic field superposed on the electric discharge machining. Therefore, it was conceived and achieved a physic-mathematics modeling software, which also interpretive the results, called MAGNETIC. The purpose of this paper is to present this interactive, specialized software which provides the optimum value (the maximum value in fact) of the intensity of the magnetic field to be superposed to the electric discharge machining process. 2. DESCRIPTION OF THE SOFTWARE The physic-mathematics and drawing software (variation curves drawing) called MAGNETIC was conceived and achieved using the programming language Delphi 5.0. for Windows. [4] The MAGNETIC software takes over the data base created using the MAIN SOFTWARE SIPREE, it means there is necessary to introduce some input data, shown in figure 1. When running the above mentioned software, a visual dialog starts between the user and the computer. The user can choose to obtain a data base which is practically an image of the modeling of physic-mathematics parameters and of kinetic energy, which characterize the material removing process activated with a magnetic field, depending on the valves of this coercive field superposed on the machining process (example in figures 2). 2

Figure 1. The software SiPree Figure 2. SiPree. Input data 3

The user of the software can chose to print the data base, to visualize, but also to visualize and print the graphs resulted following the modeling process (figure 3). Figure 3. SiPree. The data base 3. THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA AND THE RESULTS In the following figures are presented the variation and the date of the physic-mathematics parameter called speed of electric charge particles, electrons and ions, in the erosive interstice and the calculated variation of kinetic energy, both depending on the intensity and induction of the magnetic field superposed on the machining process. [5] Figure 4. The variation of the energy of the particles 4

Figure 5. Another variation of the speed of the particles and the general data of the program It is to be noticed that the interpretation of the theoretical results takes into account the value of impulse time needed for electric discharge machining. For example the impulse time has the values t i = 4? s and t i = 100?s. (figure 6). [5] Figure 6. The variation of the speed of the ions for t i = 4?s and the variation of the speed of the ions for t i = 100? s 4. CONCLUSIONS Following this physic-mathematics modeling and the interpretation of results variation curves the conclusion is that the optimum value of the magnetic field intensity is H= A/m and the maximum value of the magnetic field induction is B=0.1367T. (example in figure 7). These values are obtained for a maximum of speed and a maximum of kinetic energy, the kinetic energy being directly connected to the machining productivity. 5

The software for calculation, physic mathematics modeling and drawing MAGNETIC is practically specialized and interactive software which completes other software, achieved previously by the authors. [4, 5] This last software brings an important contribution in modeling, building a data base for the analyzed process, optimizing and interpreting the results. Figure 7. The speed for the particles. Comparative case. In conclusion, the presented software takes into account the theoretical results previously obtained by the authors and fully satisfies the needs for which it was conceived and achieved.
