During this time the President signed a letter of sympathy to Senator John Pastore upon the death of his mother (which was subsequently dispatched air mail special to the Sen.)... and worked some of his night reading of the previous night w/ m f and mary s. He di d this work in the golf cart, with Amb. The J-^M-fffrffi President then showed "The President's Country" 12:25a All guests departed the President to bed r~ : On his 6:50 p call to Walt Rostow, and President almost dictated the following to Rostow, who in turn was supposed to discuss it with Rusk, McNamara et al -- The President deeply regrets that you are going to be engaged full time at the UN but he understands an d he doesn't want to complicate in any way.
