4 INTRODUCTION This document is intended to serve managers in their decision making processes. There has been an effort to use data that is consistent from one semester to the same semester the next year. Where possible, trend information is provided. Due to the block scheduling, which allows some classes to have a later enrollment period, the summer semester is the least consistent of the three semesters in terms of preliminary enrollment numbers. The data in this book is accurate as of June 12, The following bullets provide some information you may want to keep in mind while reviewing the Demographics Book: With the Summer 2017 term, transition is underway to use the data warehouse as the source of data. Numbers may be a bit higher than the traditional Banner pull due to the overnight capture of data. All trend data will use the same methodology. In some cases where data is not yet available through the data warehouse, more traditional methods are used and so noted. The official census date is after the last day to drop a class, generally the tenth day of classes for Fall and Spring terms and generally the fifth day of classes for Summer term. With the data warehouse the concepts of Distinct Student and Enrolled Student allow for easier reporting of students with multiple majors. For the University section of the Demographics book, Distinct Students are counted. For college sections, Enrolled Students are counted. This allows students to be counted for each declared major, which may span departments and/or colleges. For example, a student would appear in two departments (one for each major) but only once in the college and university if they have double-majored in one college. A student would appear in two departments and colleges (one for each major) but only once in the university if they have doublemajored in two colleges. Student FTE/full time equivalency numbers may vary slightly because of automatic rounding by the computer. Student credit hours are sorted two ways: by student classification (for FTE calculations) or by course level (for production by department). Students are not associated with a college until they declare a major. There is a section of reports to show the statistics for those students with an undeclared major. There is a report to track students on campus by time of day. Students enrolled in institutes, independent studies, etc., are not included. Students may be counted in more than one category or college. \\ucofs\central\aa\ie\ir\major Processes\Enrollment Demo Books\Files for All Books\Intro Memo.doc; 6/2017
