1 ON A GENERALIZATION FOR TRIBONACCI QUATERNIONS GAMALIEL CERDA-MORALES arxiv: v [math.co] 2 Jul 207 Abstract. Let V deote the third order liear recursive sequece defied by the iitial values V 0, V ad V 2 ad the recursio V rv +sv 2 +tv if, where r, s, ad t are real costats. The {V } 0 are geeralized Triboacci umbers ad reduce to the usual Triboacci umbers whe r s t ad to the -boacci umbers whe r s ad t 0. I this study, we itroduced a quaterio sequece which has ot bee itroduced before. We show that the ew quaterio sequece that we itroduced icludes the previously itroduced Triboacci, Padova, Narayaa ad Third order Jacobsthal quaterio sequeces. We obtaied the Biet formula, summatio formula ad the orm value for this ew quaterio sequece. 200 Mathematics Subject Classificatio. R52, B7, B9, B8. Keywords ad phrases. Quaterio, Geeralized Triboacci sequece, Narayaa sequece, Third order Jacobsthal sequece.. Geeralized Triboacci sequece We cosider the geeralized Triboacci Sequece, {V V 0,V,V 2 ;r,s,t)} 0, or briefly {V } 0, defied as follows: ) V rv +sv 2 +tv,, where V 0 a, V b, V 2 c are arbitrary itegers ad r, s, t, are real umbers. This sequece has bee studied by Shao ad Horadam [], Yalavigi [6] ad Pethe [2]. If we set r s t ad V 0 0 V, V 2, the {V } is the well-kow Triboacci sequece which has bee cosidered extesively see, for example, []). As the elemets of this Triboacci-type umber sequece provide third order iterative relatio, its characteristic equatio is x rx 2 sx t 0, whose roots are α αr,s,t) r +A+B, ω r +ǫa+ǫ2 B ad ω 2 r +ǫ2 A+ǫB, where r A 27 + rs 6 + t ) 2 + r, B 27 + rs 6 + t 2 ), with r,s,t) r t 08 + rst 6 s 27 + t2 4 ad ǫ 2 + i 2. I this paper, r,s,t) > 0, the the equatio ) has oe real ad two oreal solutios, the latter beig cojugate complex. Thus, the Biet formula for the geeralized Triboacci umbers ca be expressed as: 2) V 27 r2 s 2 Pα α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω 2 α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ), where P c ω +ω 2 )b+ω ω 2 a, Q c α +ω 2 )b +αω 2 a ad R c α + ω )b+αω a. I fact, the geeralized Triboacci sequece is the geeralizatio of the wellkow sequeces like Triboacci, Padova, Narayaa ad third order Jacobsthal. For example, {V 0,0,;,,)} 0, {V 0,,0;0,,)} 0, are Triboacci ad Padova sequeces, respectively. The Biet formula for the geeralized Triboacci sequece is expressed as follows:
2 2 G. CERDA-MORALES Lemma.. The Biet formula for the geeralized Triboacci sequece is: ) V cu +bs+at)u +btu 2, where a, b ad c are iitial values ad α 4) U α ω )α ω 2 ) ω α ω )ω ω 2 ) + ω2 α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ). Proof. The validity of this formula ca be cofirmed usig the recurrece relatio. Furthermore, {U } 0 {V 0,0,;r,s,t)} 0. O the other had, Horadam [0] itroduced the -th Fiboacci ad the -th Lucas quaterio as follow: 5) Q F +if + +jf +2 +kf +, 6) K L +il + +jl +2 +kl +, respectively. Here F ad L are the -th Fiboacci ad Lucas umbers, respectively. Furthermore, the basis i, j, k satisfies the followig rules: 7) i 2 j 2 k 2, ijk. Note that the rules 7) imply ij ji k, jk kj i ad ki ik j. I geeral, a quaterio is a hyper-complex umber ad is defied by q q 0 +iq + jq 2 + kq, where i,j,k are as i 7) ad q 0,q,q 2 ad q are real umbers. Note that we ca write q q 0 + u where u iq + jq 2 + kq. The cojugate of the quaterio q is deoted by q q 0 u. The orm of a quaterio q is defied by Nr 2 q) q 2 0 +q 2 +q 2 2 +q 2. I this paper we itroduce ad study the geeralized Triboacci quaterios. We show that the ew quaterio sequece that we itroduced icludes the previously itroduced Triboacci, Padova, Narayaa ad Third order Jacobsthal quaterio sequeces. We obtaied the Biet formula ad calculated a quadratic idetity, summatio formula ad the orm value for this ew quaterio sequece. Furthermore, we describe their properties also usig a matrix represetatio. 2. Geeralized Triboacci quaterios I this sectio, we defie a ew relatio which geeralizes all the third order recurrece relatios which have bee studied so far. We preset some quadratic idetities ad some results correspodig to the results of previously studied sequeces. First, for 2 ad p, q itegers, usig W pw + qw 2, W 0 a ad W b, Halici ad Karataş i [8] showed the presece of the followig iterative relatio W bt +aqt, where T pt +qt 2, T 0 0 ad T. The above formula is a type of geeralizatio for Fiboacci umbers. Furthermore, the authors made a ew geeralizatio for the Fiboacci quaterios with the help of this relatio, which is expressed below: 8) Q w, W +W + i+w +2 j +W + k, 0, where W is the -th Horadam umber. Now, let us propose a ew type of quaterio similar to geeralized Triboacci: 9) Q v, V +V + i+v +2 j +V + k, 0. Here, V is the -th geeralized Triboacci umber defied by Eq. ). This ew quaterio ca be called geeralized Triboacci quaterio due to its coefficiets. The followig iterative relatio is obtaied after some basic calculatios: 0) Q v, rq v, +sq v, 2 +tq v,,.
3 ON A GENERALIZATION FOR TRIBONACCI QUATERNIONS The Eq. 9) geeralizes differet quaterioic sequeces, which are kow as quaterios similar to Triboacci i the literature. Two of the most well-kow of these are Narayaa ad Third order Jacobsthal quaterios. Whe we calculate the iitial values of the sequece i Eq. 0), we fid: ) Q v,0 a+bi+cj +rc+sb+ta)k, Q v, b+ci+rc+sb+ta)j +r 2 +s)c+t+rs)b+rta)k, Q v,2 c+rc+sb+ta)i+r 2 +s)c+t+rs)b+rta)j +V 5 k. where V 5 r +2rs+t)c+r 2 s+s 2 +rt)b+r 2 t+st)a. It must be oted that whe V 0,,;,,2) are take istead of V r,s,t) i Eqs. ), Q v,0 i+j +2k, Q v,0 +i+2j +5k ad Q v,0 +2i+5j +9k is obtaied. Here Q v, QJ ) are Third order Jacobsthal quaterios foud by Cerda-Morales i []. For this case, the roots of the characteristic equatio of the sequece are x 2 ad x,2 ±i 2. Note that the latter two are the complex cojugatecube rootsofuity. I [], with the help ofthe rootsabove, Biet formula for Third order Jacobsthal quaterios was give as follows: 2) JQ ) 7 [ i ) x x 2i )x 2x 2 ] where x,2 are the solutios of the equatio t 2 +t+ 0, ad 2 +2i+4j+8k, x +x i+x 2 j +k ad x 2 +x 2 i+x 2 2j +k. I the followig theorem, we derive the Biet formula for geeralized Triboacci quaterios. Theorem 2.. Biet formula for geeralized Triboacci quaterios is ) Q v, Pαα α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω ω α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω 2 ω 2 α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ), where P, Q ad R as i Eq. 2), ad α +αi+α 2 i+α k, ω +ω i+ω 2 i+ω k ad ω 2 +ω 2 i+ω 2 2i+ω 2k. Proof. Usig the defiitio of geeralized Triboacci quaterios {Q v, } 0, the followig equatio ca be writte: Pα Q v, α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω2 α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ) Pα + + α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω + α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω2 + α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ) Pα +2 + α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω +2 α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω2 +2 α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ) Pα + + α ω )α ω 2 ) Qω + α ω )ω ω 2 ) + Rω2 + α ω 2 )ω ω 2 ) The, some basic calculatios are made ad Eq. ) is foud., ) i ) j ) k. I the followig table, we give the formula αr,s,t) for some special third order sequeces. The values give i the table are the same with the values give i some previous studies see, for example, [2,, 2, ]). I other words, the formula we give is a geeralizatio. For example, the Fiboacci-Narayaa quaterios give i the first row of the table were also defied by Flaut ad Shpakivskyi [4] by givig suitable iitial values ad by listig its properties. Also, Third order Jacobsthal quaterios i the fourth row of the table were defied by Cerda-Morales [], who examied

As a result, here we geeralized differet Triboacci-like quaterio sequeces i oe formula. I the followig theorem we preset the geeratig fuctio for geeralized Triboacci quaterios. Theorem 2.2. The geeratig fuctio for the geeralized Triboacci quaterio Q v, is 4) gx) Q v,0 +Q v, rq v,0 )x+q v,2 rq v, sq v,0 )x 2 rx sx 2 tx Proof. The, we get 0 The theorem is proved. Q v, x Q v,0 +Q v, rq v,0 )x+q v,2 rq v, sq v,0 )x 2 rx sx 2 tx. I the followig table, we examie some special cases of geeratig fuctios give i Eq. 4). Table 2. Geeratig fuctios accordig to iitial values. For every iteger 0, we have: 5) V l δr,s,t) V +2 + r)v + +tv +r+s )a+r )b c), where δ δr,s,t) r +s+t ad V deote the -th term of the geeralized Triboacci umbers. Proof. Coclusio This study examies ad studied Triboacci-type quaterio sequeces with the help of a simple ad geeral formula. For this purpose, geeralized Triboacci sequece {V } 0 was used. Geeralized Triboacci sequece was examied i detail particularly i sectio, ad it was show that this sequece is used to geeralize all the third order liear recurrece relatios o quaterios. I this study, Biet formulas, geeratig fuctios, some summatio formulas ad orm values of all quaterio sequeces were obtaied. As a result, all the formulas i the literature were give with the help of oly oe formula. Quaterios have great importace as they are used i quatum physics, applied mathematics, graph theory ad differetial equatios.
