Poems Poems By Abhiuday Singha (Sunny - 7 years) I am sunny My mom thinks I m funny She s right because my name is Sunny I like to go outside and play, when it s sunny So I can do a lot of running I want to buy toys, but I don t have enough money That s why I m saving all my penny. A fat rat A fat rat sat on a mat And he likes to chat to a cat That had a baseball bat The first day of school The first day of school I had no time to go to the pool It was no cool rule But it wasn t so cruel And I wish I had rode a mule On my first day to school. 21

Poems Poems By Upamanyu Dutta (11 years) Meeting with My Friends from ANEGORTIN Once in a night deep On our terrace, landed a spaceship To meet them I had to go there As my friends from the green planet can t breathe earth air. I shook hand and introduced myself To the little aliens look like elf I think they all liked me As together yelled and hiked me. They asked me what I wish I gestured a spicy fish We all enjoyed eating Until the spaceship came fleeting For a return trip to the ANEGORTIN The distant planet filled with love and green. Our habitat Hi, m Mr. Dinosaurs My sun sign is Taurus I have two sons Each of them weigh 50 ton! I love to eat shredded chicken raw That my wife makes with her claw Her name is Jenny She is soft spoken unlike her old granny. Now we live in a forest small But we have big hearts to fit all It s scary to hear the T-Rex roars We stay alert behind the cave doors. We don t have any shopping mall To buy sausage from the fancy stall We always keep our hopes tall We stay together happy in our forest small. 22

Poems Beautiful Fall Season Utsav Singha (12 years) Fall is a great time, you should know Lots of color, red, orange, and yellow There s something else I want to say Fall s great weather will give you good days. Fall is here, no summer fun No sand castles, no bathing in sun In fall everyone within miles Will hear you jumping in leaf piles Summer is gone, doesn t mean no holiday Fall has plenty, you can still play One holiday is thanks-giving you knew Another you know is Halloween too. Fall is coming, look at the signs Right under trees, leaves is great big lines Park your chair and empty your pool Wear jackets and sweaters to protect you from cool. 23

Poems Poems By Reeta Bandopadhyay Perfection Don t Every girls dream The one thing we all want Beauty in the simplest form We try so hard for it Not knowing that every one of us has it Perfection, beauty, grace Nature s canvas Nature is perfection In all the imperfection of what nature is Perfection is born Beauty is born Perfection The one thing we are all searching for It s right in front of our eyes To find it We need to look in a mirror Don t let the past cover up your body Don t let the future take your fun away Live your life like no one could tell you how I ve learned those lessons the hard way now Caged in perfection never to succeed Failing ending up as every misdeed Those days need finally be behind I ve gotten better things in my mind Using judgment I know best That way winning life s old test Learning new things along the way And living happy every single day 24

Poems Poems By Deepti Gupta Smile Smile smile smile Always wear a sweet smile Wheather it's night Or growing a sunlight It is a best way to spent life Smile always catch a nice life Everyone deserve it in many ways It always come throughout the day What is right what is wrong Smile always singing a song It comes spontaneously through heart It does not cost any part A smile can only bring a smile so smile smile always u smile Life When I think about life It seems to be a sweetest dream When I spent my life It's seems to be a dramatic theme When I feel for life It's seems to be a simple act When I understand the life It's just an unknown fact. 25

Poems Fact of Life Shyamali Mukhopadhyay Everyone wants to be important Everyone wants to be heard Everyone wants to be the center of the circle Where friends are hanging on your every word Or do whatever you said No matter how young you to be Or how old you grow to be Everybody needs somebody listen to even somebody like me. Everyone wants to be respected Everyone wants to be liked Whether you ve got degree Or power that makes you very important When you want to be more fascinating You might say things that aren t true Everyone s tempted to FIB sometimes even someone like you. We want folks to admire us We want someone to care We want to make difference and to know that others know that we re there But everyone has their own importance that s what I ve come to know Everyone has their own place in this world Respect the things someone gives you It s something you have earned Who has thought after all these years that there were more things I had to learn Thank you all for teaching me you re never too old to learn. 26

Poems Family Shyamali Mukhopadhyay Is it someone who looks like us? Is it someone who walks like us? Is it someone who acts like us? Is it someone who speaks like us? Is it someone who thinks like us? Or is it someone who we like best Someone doesn t think like us Someone doesn t eat like us Or someone makes you angry Yet someone shares with you all the things that you ve been through That someone could be family who is more than being friend When someone becomes family the loving never ends even if he goes away He will always be a very big part of family Though families are different one thing stays same At the heart of every family is love Family is family. 27

Travelogue A Trip to Big Apple Biplab Bhattacharjee I accompanied by my wife visited New York City (The Big Apple) during the second week of August, The trip was organized by Fifty Forward, a non-profit organization which caters the needs (physical, social, travel etc.) for those over fifty years. There are seven centers of fifty forward in and around Nashville. One is Martin Center, where we had several parties before. The 7-day trip (Aug 07-13) was by video and restroom equipped motor coach. It cost $749 per head including hotel rent and several meals. Our New York City tour was mainly based in Manhattan and two nearby islands. Manhattan is one of the five boroughs (counties) of NYC, the others being Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. We stayed in a hotel in New Jersey to minimize the high cost of hotel rent in Manhattan, NYC. Each day we passed through Lincoln tunnel, 1.5-mile-long tunnel under the Hudson River connecting the states of New York and New Jersey. A tour guide (a local from Manhattan) accompanied us each day. The following are the interesting places we visited:- 1. Midtown Manhattan: It is the largest central business district in the USA. The majority of New York City skyscrapers lie here. Manhattan Island lies on rock, so it was possible to build tall skyscrapers. It is also headquarters of three major US TV channels. The important landmarks we saw or visited were Empire State Building, Times Square (with huge electronic billboards), Grand Central Terminal, Chrysler Building, UN Headquarters, St. Patrick s Cathedral, Trump Tower and Macy's. We also rode metro (subway) in the Midtown. 2. Upper Manhattan (Uptown): We visited Harlem at the Uptown. It lies in the northern part of Manhattan. It is the major African American residential, cultural and business center. It is named after the city of Harlem in the Netherlands. 3. Lower Manhattan (Downtown): It functions as the financial capital of the world. We visited the Wall Street, Battery Park and 9/11 Memorial. 36

4. Central Park, Manhattan: The 843-acre urban park is located in the center of Manhattan. It has several lakes and play grounds with various types of plants. It is the most visited urban park in the USA. We saw several musicians playing in the park. 5. Chinatown, Manhattan: It is home to the largest enclave of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere. Both English and Chinese scripts were visible inside and outside the store. Many exotic Chinese fruits and vegetables were on sale by vendors. 6. Little Italy, Manhattan: It is located in Lower Manhattan. However, the Italian population has considerably dwindled and now there are only few Italian stores and restaurants. 7. Liberty Island: We reached the island by a ferry from Manhattan. The famous Statue of Liberty is located on this island. The statue is named after Libertus, the Roman Goddess of Freedom. It was a gift to the USA from the people of France. The statue is 305 feet, 1 inch tall from ground to torch. We climbed the stairs to reach the observation level. 8. Ellis Island: We reached Ellis Island by ferry from Liberty Island. It houses the famous Immigration Museum. It was a gateway for millions of immigrants to the USA. On the way back to Nashville we had a brief stopover at Hershey's Chocolate World located at Hershey, Pennsylvania. A mini train ride showed us the various processes in making chocolate. My wife (Shuvra) showed keen interest in buying various types of chocolate (yummy!). The motor coach finally dropped us on Aug-13 around 4.30pm at Fifty Forward/YMCA, Bellevue. It was worth visiting the Big Apple and will be remembered for a long time. References: 1. Wikipedia 2. Statue of Liberty Museum 37
