1 J/ψ-kaon cro ection in meon exchange model R.S. Azevedo and M. Nielen Intituto de Fíica, Univeridade de São Paulo, C.P , São Paulo, SP, Brazil Abtract arxiv:nucl-th/ v1 24 Oct 2003 We calculate the cro ection for the diociation of J/ψ by kaon within the framework of a meon exchange model including anomalou parity interaction. Off-hell effect at the vertice were handled with QC um rule etimate for the running coupling contant. The total J/ψ-kaon cro ection wa found to be mb for GeV. 1
2 I. INTROUCTION Suppreion of J/ψ in relativitic heavy ion colliion i till conidered a one of the important ignature to identify the poible phae tranition to quark-gluon plama QGP [1] for a review of data and interpretation ee ref. [2, 3]. Since there i no direct experimental information on J/ψ aborption cro ection by hadron, everal theoretical approache have been propoed to etimate their value. In order to elaborate a theoretical decription of the phenomenon, we have firt to chooe the relevant degree of freedom. Some approache were baed on charm quark-antiquark dipole interacting with the gluon of a larger hadron target dipole [4, 5, 6] or quark exchange between two hadronic bag [7, 8], or QC um rule [9, 10, 11], wherea other work ued the meon exchange mechanim [12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18]. In thi cae it i not eay to decide in favor of quark or hadron becaue we are dealing with charm quark bound tate, which are mall and maive enough to make perturbation theory meaningful, but not mall enough to make non-perturbative effect negligible [9, 10, 11, 19]. The meon exchange approach wa applied baically to J/ψ N, J/ψ π and J/ψ ρ cro ection, with the only exception of ref. [13] where J/ψ cro ection wa alo etimated. However, a pointed out in ref. [14], there are ome inconitencie in the Lagrangian defined in ref. [13]. In thi work we extend the analyi done in ref. [20] and evaluate the J/ψ cro ection uing a meon-exchange model, conidering anomalou parity term a in ref. [17]. II. EFFECTIVE LAGRANGIANS We follow ref. [13, 14, 16, 17] and tart with the SU4 Lagrangian for the peudo-calar and vector meon. The effective Lagrangian relevant for the tudy of the J/ψ aborption by kaon are: L = ig µ µ µ +H.c., 1 L = ig µ µ µ +H.c., 2 L ψ = ig ψ ψ µ µ µ, 3 L ψ = ig ψ ψ µ µ µ, 4 2
3 L ψ = ig ψ [ ψ µ µ ν ν ν µ ν + µ ψ ν ν ψν µ ν µ + µ ψ ν µ ν µ ψ ν ν], 5 [ L ψ = ig ψ ψ µ µ ν ν ν µ ν ] + µ ψ ν ν ψν µ ν µ + µ ψ ν µ ν µ ψ ν ν, 6 L ψ = g ψ ψµ µ + µ, 7 L ψ = g ψ ψ µ µ + µ, 8 where we have defined the charm meon and kaon io-doublet 0, +, 0, + and 0, +. In addition to the normal term given above, which were conidered in [20], there are alo anomalou parity term introduced in ref. [17] for the J/ψ π cae. In the J/ψ cae they are: L ψ = g ψ ǫ µναβ µ ψ ν α β + α β, 9 L ψ = g ψ ǫ µναβ µ ψ ν α β + α β, 10 L = g ǫµναβ µ ν α β + µ ν α β, 11 L ψ = ig ψǫ µναβ ψ µ ν α β ν α β, 12 L ψ = ig ψǫ µναβ ψ µ ν α β ν α β ih ψ ǫµναβ µ β ψ ν α + µ α ψ ν β +3 µψ ν α β µ β ψ ν α µ α ψ ν β 3 µ ψ ν α β, 13 In Fig. 1 we how the procee we want to tudy for the aborption of J/ψ by kaon. They are: J/ψ, J/ψ, 14 J/ψ, J/ψ, 15 J/ψ, J/ψ. 16 J/ψ, J/ψ, 17 Since the two procee in eq. 14, 15, 16 and 17 have the ame cro ection, in Fig. 1 we only how the diagram for the firt proce in eq. 14 through 17. efining the four-momentum of the kaon and the J/ψ by p 1, p 2 repectively, and the four-momentum of the vector and peudo-calar final-tate meon repectively by p 3 and 3

NUMERICAL RESULTS A. Coupling contant and form factor To etimate the cro ection we have firt to determine the coupling contant of the effective Lagrangian. Exact SU4 ymmetry would give the following relation among the 6
7 coupling contant [14, 17]: where N c = 3 and F π = 132MeV. g = g = g 2 2, g ψ = g ψ = g ψ = g ψ = g 6, g ψ = g ψ = g2 4 3, g ψ = g ψ = g 3 = g a N c g ψ = 96, 6π 2 Fπ 3 2g 2 a N c 64 3π 2 F π, g ψ = 5h ψ = 5g3 an c 2 8 3π 2 F π, 29 Since none of the above coupling are known experimentally, one ha to ue model to etimatethem. Inref.[20]wehavecalculatedthecroectionfortheproceeJ/ψ kaon conidering only the normal term given by the Lagrangian in Eq. 1 through 8, and uing two different way to etimate the coupling contant: vector meon dominance model etimate of g ψ plu SU4 relation, and the experimental reult for g ρππ plu SU4 relation. We howed that the reult for the cro ection can vary by almot one order of magnitude, depending on the value of the coupling contant ued, even without conidering form factor in the hadronic vertice [14, 17]. Thi give an idea of how important it i to have a good etimate of the value of the coupling contant. In a recent work [21], the J/ψ π and J/ψ ρ cro ection were evaluated by uing form factor and coupling contant etimated uing QC um rule [22, 23, 24, 25]. The reult in ref. [21] how that, with appropriate form factor, even the behavior of the cro ection a a function of can change. In thi work we ue the form factor in the vertice J/ψ, J/ψ and π, determined from QC um rule [23, 26], and the above SU4 relation to etimate the form factor and coupling contant in all vertice. From ref. [26] we get g ψ = 4.0 GeV 1 and g ψ = 5.8. Uing thee number in the SU4 relation given in Eq. 29 we obtain g ψ = g ψ = g ψ = g ψ = 5.8, g = g = 5.0, g ψ = g ψ = 28.8, g ψ = g ψ = 4.0GeV 1, g = 7.0GeV 1, g ψ = 6.6GeV 3, g ψ = 41.6GeV 1, h ψ = 8.3GeV
8 The form factor given in ref. [26] are g ψ t = g ψ 5 e 27 t = g ψ h 1 t, 31 g ψ t = g ψ 3.3 e 26 t = g ψ h 2 t, 32 g ψ t = g ψ 2.6 e 20 t = g ψ h 3 t, 33 where g mean the form factor at the vertex involving the meon 123 with the meon 1 off-hell. In the above equation the number in the exponential are in unit of GeV 2. Since there i no QC um rule calculation for the form factor at the vertice or, we make the uppoition that they are imilar to the form factor at the vertex π. From ref. [23] we get g π t = g π 3.5GeV 2 m 2 3.5GeV 2 t = g π h 4 t,m With thee form factor the amplitude will be modified in the following way: M ia h 3 th 4 t,m 2 ia M ia, M ib h 3 uh 4 u,m 2 ib M ib, 35 for i = 1,2 and 4, with m 1a = m, m 1b = m 4a = m, m 2a = m, and m 2b = m 4b = m. M ic 1 2 h3 th 4 t,m 2 ia+h 3 uh 4 u,m 2 ib M ic, M id h 1 th 4 t,m 2 idm id, 36 for i = 1,2 with m 1d = m and m 2d = m. Cro ection We firt give the cro ection for the J/ψ aborption by kaon without conidering the form factor, i.e., we ue the expreion for the amplitude in Eq. 19 through 24. We will be alway including the contribution for both J/ψ and J/ψ. 8

The olid line give the total J/ψ diociation by kaon cro ection. In Fig. 2 we how the cro ection of J/ψ diociation by kaon a a function of the initial energy. The dot-dahed, dotted, dahed, long-dahed and olid line give the contribution for the procee J/ψ kaon +, +, +, + and total repectively. We ee that the for > 4.4 GeV the proce J/ψ kaon + dominate. However, for maller value of the procee given by diagram 1 and 2 in Fig. 1 are the mot important one. Thi i imilar to what wa found in ref. [17] for the J/ψ diociation by pion σ J/ψ mb /2 GeV FIG. 3: Same a in Fig. 2 but with form factor. In Fig. 3 we how the ame procee conidered in Fig. 2, but with form factor. Thi 9
10 mean that we are now uing the amplitude given by Eq. 35 through 38. The firt important concluion i that the ue of appropriate form factor do change the behavior of the cro ection a a function of, a obtained in [21]. The procee more affected by thi change are the one repreented by diagram 3 and 4 in Fig. 1. While the total cro ection obtained without form factor how a very trong grown with. Thi i not more the cae when the total cro ection i obtained with form factor, a can be een in Fig. 4, where we how the total cro ection evaluated with and without form factor σ m J/ψ mb /2 GeV FIG. 4: Total J/ψ aborption cro ection a a function of the initial energy. The olid and dahed line give the reult for J/ψ aborption by kaon with and without form factor repectively. The dotted line give the reult for J/ψ aborption by pion with form factor. Other important reult of our calculation i the fact that, uing appropriate form factor with cut-off of order of 4 GeV ee Eq.31 through 34, the value of the cro ection can be reduced by one order of magnitude. The ame effect wa obtained in ref. [14, 17] uing monopole form factor, but with cut-off of order of 1 GeV, which are conidered very mall for charmed meon. In Fig. 4 we alo how, for comparion, the total cro ection for J/ψ aborption by pion dotted line uing the ame form factor and coupling contant given here, and the experimental value for the π coupling contant: g π = 12.6 [27]. It i important to mention that the mallne of the value of the total J/ψ-kaon aborption cro ection, a compared with the J/ψ-pion aborption cro ection, i due to the ue of the experimental value for g π, which i much bigger than what one would get by uing SU4 relation: 10
11 g π = g/4 = 3.6. In ref. [20] we have howed that, uing coupling contant related by SU4 relation, the J/ψ-kaon aborption cro ection i even bigger than the J/ψ-pion aborption cro ection. Therefore, once more thi how how important it i to have good etimate for the coupling. IV. CONCLUSIONS We have tudied the cro ection of J/ψ diociation by kaon in a meon-exchange model that include peudo-calar-peudo-calar-vector-meon coupling, three-vector-meon coupling, peudo-calar-vector-vector-meon coupling and four-point coupling. Off-hell effect at the vertice were handled with QC um rule etimate for the form factor. The incluion of anomalou parity interactionpeudo-calar-vector-vector-meon coupling ha opened additional channel to the aborption mechanim. Their contribution are very important epecially for large value of the initial energy, > 4.4 GeV. A hown in Fig. 2 our reult, without form factor, have the ame energy dependence of J/ψ aborption by pion from ref. [17]. The incluion of the form factor change the energy dependence of the aborption cro ection in a nontrivial way, a hown in Fig. 3. Thi modification in the energy dependence i imilar to what wa found in ref. [21] for J/ψ aborption by pion. With QC um rule etimate for the coupling contant and form factor, the total J/ψ-kaon cro ection wa found to be mb for GeV. Uing the ame form factor and the experimental value for g π we get for the J/ψ-pion total diociation cro ection mb, in the ame energy range. Acknowledgment Thi work wa upported by CNPq and FAPESP.
