At photon energie above 0 GeV the fl+p!!+p reaction i entirely dominated by Pomeron exchange. However, it wa found that Pomeron exchange model can not reproduce the fl+p!ρ+p and fl+p!!+p data at high energie imultaneouly with the ame et of parameter. The comparion between ρ and! data indicate a large room for meon exchange contribution to!-meon photoproduction at low energie. INTRODUCTION The vector meon photoproduction at high energie i traditionally dicued in term of Regge theory. The mot recent ytematic theoretical analyi [1,, 3] confirmed that at high energie the photoproduction of ρ- and ffi-meon can be well decribed by oft Pomeron and meon Regge trajectorie. ZEUS data [4] at high energie on ρ-meon photoproduction at jtj above '0.4 GeV need additional contribution from hard Pomeron exchange [5]. Furthermore, very recent CLAS data on ρ- [6] and ffi-meon [7] photoproduction at E fl '3:Ξ4 GeV can be well explained by Regge theory at low momentum tranfer jtj»1 GeV. The Regge theory calculation [, 8] for ρ-meon photoproduction at low jtj indicate that at low energie the dominant contribution come from f -meon exchange, while at high energie it i due to Pomeron exchange. The ffi- and J=Ψ-meon photoproduction at mall momentum tranfer are dominated by Pomeron exchange becaue of the μ and cμc tructure of thee meon [9], repectively. At backward angle, where juj i mall, the ρ-meon photoproduction i dominated by exchange of nucleon and Regge trajectorie in the u channel. The backward ffi-meon photoproduction i due to the u-channel nucleon exchange. Moreover, the recent data [6, 7] onρ and ffi-meon photoproduction at both large jtj>1 GeV and large juj had been interpreted a due to the hard cattering between the photon and the quark in the nucleon. While ρ and ffi-meon photoproduction were ytematically tudied within the Regge theory, the!-meon photoproduction data have been analyzed only electively. A i hown in Ref. [3, 8] the calculation with the incluion of ß, f and Pomeron trajectory exchange underetimate experimental data on total fl+p!!+p cro ection at E fl 50 GeV. It i important that at thee high energie the photoproduction i dominated by Pomeron exchange and it i trongly believed [1, ] that the Regge theory i able to decribe the total cro ection for the! a well a for the ρ- and ffi-meon photoproduction. To get a overview about the Regge theory for!-meon photoproduction we perform a ytematic analyi of available data. II. THE POMERON EXCHANGE The mechanim reponible for elatic vector meon photoproduction at high energie wa originally identified a Pomeron exchange [1, ] within the phenomenological Regge model [10]. Recently, there wa an apparent development in the decription of Pomeron exchange in term of the quark and gluon degree of freedom of QCD [11] a an underlying theory of trong interaction. The concept of the model i baed [1] on that a photon fluctuate into the vector meon, and interact with the quark, among thoe confined in the vector meon and the nucleon through the Pomeron exchange. The tructure of the quark-nucleon Pomeron exchange interaction and the mot general expreion for the amplitude T P for the vector meon production by virtual photon were given by Donnachie and Landhoff [1] a T P1 =3iF 1 (t) 8p 6 m q e q f V fi0 ffp1 (t) 1 Q +4m q t (" " V ) 0 exp[ iß(ff P 1 (t) 1) ] μ 0 μ 0 + Q +4m q t ; (1) where the proton iocalar electromagnetic (EM) form
factor F 1 (t) igiven by F 1 (t) = 4m p :8t 4m p t 1 (1 t=t 0 ) ; () where m p i the proton ma and t 0 =0.7 GeV. Furthermore, i invariant colliion energy quared, and Q denote the quared ma of the virtual photon and t i the four momentum tranfer quared between the photon and vector meon. In Eq.(1) e q and m q are the quark effective charge and ma, repectively, while " and " V are the polarization vector of the virtual photon and vector meon, repectively. Finally f V i the vector meon radiative decay coupling contant given by V!e + e decay width. Free phenomenological parameter are fi 0 and μ 0. The parameter fi 0 determine the trength of the effective coupling of the Pomeron to quark, while the parameter μ 0 account that the coupling i not point-like and it i dreed with the form factor given by the lat term of Eq.(1). The experimental value of fi 0 and μ 0 were evaluated from the high energy elatic and inelatic cattering at mall jtj, FIG. 1: Differential cro ection for fl+p!!+p a a function of four momentum tranfer quared t, at different photon energie Efl, orinvariant colliion energy p. The circle how experimental reult from FNAL [18], while the quare are the data from DESY ZEUS [19]. The line how the Regge model calculation with Pomeron exchange only: the dahedby Eq.(5) with fixed parameter fi 0=.0 GeV 1 [13, 14, 15], the olid- by Eq.(6) with oft Pomeron exchange parameter adjuted by the fl+p!!+p data and the dotted- with both oft and hard Pomeron exchange. and are given a [13, 14,15] fi 0 =:0 GeV 1 ; μ 0 =1:1 GeV: (3) Furthermore, the Pomeron trajectory ff P1 (t) igiven by [16] ff P1 (t) =1+ffl + ff 0 P 1 t; (4) with ffl=0.08 and ff 0 P 1 =0.5 GeV. The contant 0 i not well determined theoretically, however within the dual model precription [17] it can be taken a 0 =1=ff 0 P 1. Finally, the differential fl+p!v +p cro ection dff=dt due to Pomeron exchange i given for a real photon, dff dt = 81 m3 V fi4 0 μ4 0 e e+ ßff 0 ffp1(t) F1 (t) (m V t) (μ + ; (5) 0 m V t) where m V =m q i the vector meon ma, e + e i the partial V!e + e decay width and ff i electromagnetic coupling contant. The dahed line in Fig.1 how the contribution from Pomeron exchange to the differential fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of four momentum tranfer quared t. The circle in Fig.1 indicate the FNAL data [18] collected at photon energie 50»E fl»130 GeV, while the quare how the DESY ZEUS data [19] atinvariant colliion energy 70» p»90 GeV. Obviouly the calculation by Eq.(5) with fi 0 =.0 GeV 1 underetimate the data by a factor 1.9. Mot recently the parameter of the Pomeron exchange were readjuted [0] tofl+p!!+p data, which can be well reproduced with the coupling contant, fi 0 =:35 GeV 1. We alo note that the ame value of the coupling contant wa deduced [11] from an analyi of ß+p elatic cattering data at high energie. The Pomeron parameter were alo fixed [, 1] with the fl+p!ρ 0 +p data. It wa aumed that at high energie the contribution from Pomeron exchange to the total ρ+p cro ection i the ame a to the averaged total ß + +p and ß +p cro ection. Then the vector dominance model through the flρ converion wa applied. Finally, the phenomenological Pomeron exchange amplitude wa given a ffp1 (t) 1 T P1 =ia P1 F 1 (t) G(t) 0 exp[ iß(ff P 1 (t) 1) ]; (6) with the proton EM form factor of Eq.(). The amplitude i normalized uch that dff=dt=jt j in μbgev. The Pomeron trajectory wa defined by Eq.(4), while the flρ vertex function G(t)wa fitted [] to the fl+p!ρ 0 +p data a G(t) = 1 1 t=0:71 : (7)
prediction and equal to 1/9. Obviouly, thi ratio i conitent with phenomenological fit given by Eq.(6). The ratio of the fl+p!!+p to fl+p!ρ 0 +p cro ection from Pomeron exchange model of Eq.(1) equal to the ratio of the!!e + e and ρ!e + e decay width. The experimental reult on ρ!e + e and!!e + e decay width indicate [] that the fl! coupling i 3.4±0. time maller than that for the flρ. Therefore the ratio of the fl+p!!+p to fl+p!ρ 0 +p cro ection i underetimated by '8% a compared with the ratio given by the experimental ρ!e + e and!!e + e decay width, which i hown by the dahed line in Fig. 3. The DESY ZEUS data on ρ-meon photoproduction at invariant colliion energy p =71.7 GeV at four momentum tranfer quared 0:4»jtj»1:6 GeV require [] ome additional contribution, which may come from the hard Pomeron exchange. The hard Pomeron amplitude i given by 3 FIG. : The olution for μ 0 and fi 0 parameter evaluated at t=0 by Eq.(8) from phenomenological analyi of fl+p!ρ+p and fl+p!!+p data. The normalization contant of Eq.(6) wa fitted [] tothe data, and extracted value i A P1 =0.06 fm/gev for the ρ-meon photoproduction. It i clear that the t-dependence of Eq.(6) differ from that given by Eq.(1). However, at t=0 the relation between the normalization contant A P1 and the parameter fi 0 and μ 0 of Eq.(6) can be written a T P0 =ia P0 F 1 (t) 0 ffp0 (t) 1 exp[ iß(ff P 0 (t) 1) ]; (9) with the proton EM form factor given by Eq.(). The hard Pomeron trajectory i fixed by ρ-meon photoproduction data a ff P0 =1:44 + ff 0 P 0 t; (10) where ff 0 P 0 =0.1 GeV. Furthermore, 0 =1=ff 0 P 0 and A P0 =3: fm/gev for ρ-meon photoproduction []. fi 4 0 = ßffm V 81 μ 4 0 e + e (μ 0 + m V ) A P 1 : (8) Fig. how the olution for μ 0 and fi 0 parameter evaluated by Eq.(8) from A P1 =0.06 fm/gev. The parameter given by Eq.(3) are in reaonable agreement with phenomenological analyi [] of ρ-meon photoproduction. To reproduce the fl+p!!+p data we adjut the normalization contant in Eq.(6) aa P1 =0.0 fm/gev. The olid line in Fig. 1 how the calculation uing the phenomenological Pomeron exchange amplitude of Eq.(6). The calculation reproduce both the abolute value and t-dependence of the differential cro ection, fl+p!!+p, at high photon energie. Fig. alo how the olution for μ 0 and fi 0 parameter evaluated by Eq.(8) from fl+p!!+p data. It i clear that Pomeron exchange model can not reproduce the fl+p!ρ+p and fl+p!!+p data imultaneouly with the ame et of parameter, μ 0 and fi 0. Thi reult i in agreement with our finding reported in Ref. [0]. Direct experimental illutration [0] of thi dicrepancy i given by the ratio of the total fl+p!!+p to fl+p!ρ 0 +p cro ection, which ihown in Fig. 3. At photon energie E fl 6 GeV it i conitent with SU(3) FIG. 3: The ratio of total cro ection, fl+p!!+p to fl+p!ρ 0 +p, a a function of photon energy Efl (lower axi), or invariant colliion energy p (upper axi). The dahed line how the ratio of fl! to flρ coupling contant determined by relevant radiative e + e decay width. The olid line indicate the ratio expected from SU(3) ymmetry.
4 Following the reult for oft Pomeron exchange we readjut A P0 =1: 10 4 fm/gev for!-meon photoproduction. The fl+p!!+p differential cro ection due to the oft P 1 and hard P 0 Pomeron exchange i finally given a dff dt = jt P 0 + T P1 j ; (11) and i hown in Fig. 1 by the dotted line. The incluion of P 0 exchange doe not affect the calculation at low jtj, but reult in non negligible contribution at 70» p»90 GeV and 0:4»jtj. The abence of the high energy!-meon photoproduction data at large jtj indeed doe not allow preently to clarify the role of hard Pomeron exchange for the fl+p!!+p reaction. With decreaing the photon energy the contribution from Pomeron exchange to!-meon photoproduction decreae. Thi i illutrated by Fig. 4 where the experimental reult [3, 4, 5] on differential fl+p!!+p cro ection are hown for the photon energie E fl from 4.7 to FIG. 5: Forward (extrapolated at t=0) (a) and total (b) fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of photon energy Efl (lower axi), or invariant colliion energy p (upper axi). Circle how experimental reult from SLAC [3], the quare are the CORNELL data [4], while triangle how the FNAL data [5]. The olid line indicate the calculation with oft and hard Pomeron exchange, with parameter fitted to the!-meon photoproduction data. The analyi [] of ρ-meon photoproduction how that at low energie ignificant contribution come from f -meon exchange. The contribution from f -meon exchange to the fl+p!!+p reaction will be analyzed in next ection. To ummarize our analyi of Pomeron contribution to the!-meon photoproduction i hown in Fig. 5, for the fl+p!!+p data on total and differential dff=dt cro ection extrapolated at t=0, together with the Pomeron exchange calculation by Eq.(11) (the olid line). The upper horizontal axi of Fig. 5 how the fl+p invariant colliion energy, while the lower horizontal axi indicate the photon energy E fl. It i clear that the Pomeron exchange alone well decribe the fl+p!!+p reaction at E fl above 0 GeV at mall jtj and dominate the total!-meon photoproduction cro ection. However, the Pomeron exchange parameter for!-meon photoproduction differ from that ued [, 3] for fl+p!ρ+p reaction.
5 III. THE REGGEONS EXCHANGES In order to reproduce the ρ-meon photoproduction data at invariant colliion energie p <10 GeV it i neceary to conider the contribution from the next to leading Pomeron ρ,! and f ingularitie with an intercept cloe to ff(t=0)'0:5. However the ρ and! trajectorie can not be exchanged and it wa propoed in Ref. [, 3] that the introduction of the f exchange may be enough to decribe the fl+p!!+p data at low energie. The f exchange amplitude i given by [, 3] fff (t) 1 T f =ia f F 1 (t) G(t) exp[ iß(ff f (t) 1) ]; (1) 0 with Regge trajectory ff f (t) =0:55 + ff 0 f t; (13) where ff 0 =0.93 f GeV, F 1 (t) i proton iocalar form factor given by Eq.(), while G(t) i flρ form factor from Eq.(7). Furthermore, 0 =1=ff 0 f and parameter A f =0:159 fm/gev wa fitted to the ρ-meon photoproduction data. It i important that the um of the f and oft and hard Pomeron exchange amplitude decribe well the ρ-meon photoproduction data on differential and total reaction cro ection. The calculation with f and Pomeron exchange amplitude for the differential fl+p!!+p cro ection at photon energie from 4.7 to 9.3 GeV are hown in Fig. 4 by the dotted line. We caled the parameter A f by the factor of 3 a compared to the ρ-meon photoproduction, and performed the calculation uing the value A f =0:053 fm/gev for!-meon photoproduction. The incluion of f -meon trajectory ubtantially improve agreement for the differential fl+p!!+p cro ection at photon energie E fl =8.9 and 9.3 GeV. However, it i clear that at E fl =4.7 GeV an additional contribution i neceary in order to reproduce the data. The dotted line in Fig. 5 how the contribution from f and oft and hard Pomeron exchange to the forward and total!-photoproduction cro ection. In cae of!-meon photoproduction thi contribution come eentially from ß-meon exchange. The ρ-meon photoproduction data do not indicate much free room for the ß-meon exchange ince the flρß coupling contant given by the ρ!flß decay width '0.1 MeV i ubtantially maller than that for the fl!ß given by!!flß decay width of '0.7 MeV. Thi fact i a well illutrated by Fig. 3, which how the ratio of total fl+p!!+p to fl+p!ρ 0 +p cro ection. Subtantial enhancement of the ratio at photon energie E fl»5 GeV might be due to ß-meon exchange contribution to!-meon photoproduction. The ß-meon exchange amplitude can be parameterized a [7] T ß = ia ßm V p t t m ß ~G(t) 0 ffß(t) 1 exp[ iß(ff ß(t) 1) ]; (14) FIG. 6: Differential fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of four momentum tranfer quared t at different photon energie Efl. Square how the SLAC data [3], while the circle are DARESBURY experimental data [6]. The olid line indicate the calculation with Pomeron exchange, the dotted line how the reult with an additional incluion of f -meon exchange, while the dahed line are the full model reult with ß, f and Pomeron exchange. with ß-meon trajectory given by ff ß (t) =ff 0 ß(t m ß); (15) where ff 0 ß=0.7 GeV, m ß i ß-meon ma, 0 =1=ff 0 ß. In the calculation, the parameter A ß =0.1 fm/gev wa adjuted in order to reproduce the differential fl+p!!+p cro ection at photon energy E fl =4.7 GeV. Furthermore, ~ G(t) denote the form factor in the ßNN vertex fitted to the data and given by, ~G(t) = 1 1 t=1:3 : (16) Now, the dahed line in Fig. 4 how the calculation with ß, f and oft and hard Pomeron exchange in comparion with experimental reult on differential fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of four momentum tranfer quared. The full model reult well reproduce the data. The dahed line in Fig. 5 alo how the full model calculation for the forward and total!-meon
6 photoproduction. Agreement between the experimental reult and the Regge theory calculation i excellent at E fl from '5 GeV and up to DESY ZEUS energie. Moreover, the contribution from ß-meon exchange trongly decreae with energy. Next we invetigate down to which photon energy Regge theory can reproduce available data on differential cro ection for!-meon photoproduction. Fig. 6 how the calculation together with the experimental reult [3, 6] collected at photon energie from.8 to 4.8 GeV. The contribution from Pomeron exchange i indicated by the olid line, the um of f and Pomeron exchange i hown by the dotted line. The dahed line in Fig. 6 how the full model reult with incluion of ß, f and Pomeron exchange and well decribe the data even at very low photon energie. It i expected that ß- meon exchange become dominant with decreaing E fl and at mall jtj. Fig.7 how data [3, 8] on differential fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of four momentum tranfer quared collected at different photon energie within the FIG. 8: Total fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of photon energy Efl. The olid line indicate the calculation with Regge theory, while the dahed line how meon exchange model reult [9]. range 1:4»E fl»5:8 GeV. The contribution from Pomeron exchange i hown by the olid line and it i almot negligible. The um of ß, f and Pomeron exchange are hown by the dahed line and can decribe well the data. Again, the!-meon photoproduction here i dominated by the ß-meon exchange. IV. CONCLUSION FIG. 7: Differential fl+p!!+p cro ection a a function of four momentum tranfer quared t at different photon energie Efl. Square are the SLAC data [3], while the circle how DESY experimental reult [8]. The olid line indicate the calculation with Pomeron exchange, the dotted line how the reult with additional incluion of f -meon exchange, while the dahed line are the full model reult with ß, f and Pomeron exchange. Analyi of the!-meon photoproduction data and comparion to Regge theory calculation how that at photon energie above 0 GeV the reaction i entirely dominated by Pomeron exchange. However, we found that Pomeron exchange model can not reproduce the fl+p!ρ+p and fl+p!!+p data imultaneouly with the ame et of parameter. At E fl <5 GeV the dominant contribution to fl+p!!+p reaction come from ß and f -meon exchange. It i clear that appropriate parameterization of the form factor and coupling contant at the interaction vertice allow u to reproduce the data even at very low energie. Intead of parameterization of the ß and f -meon exchange amplitude it i poible to decribe the!-meon photoproduction at E fl <5 GeV by meon exchange model [9]. Fig. 8 how the data on total fl+p!!+p cro ection at low photon energie together with the Regge theory calculation and meon exchange model reult [9].
7 Apparently there i mooth tranition between the meon exchange model at low energie and Regge theory at high energie. Finally at E fl <5 GeV and for mall momentum tranfer the!-meon photoproduction can be well decribed by both Regge theory and by meon exchange model. [1] A. Donnachie and P.V. Landhoff, Phy. Lett.
