1 Λ(5) production in the process χ c (P) Σπ Li-Juan Liu, En Wang,, Ju-Jun Xie, 2, Kai-Lan Song, and Jing-Yu Zhu School of Physics and Engineering, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan 5, China 2 Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 73, China (Dated: December, ) arxiv:72.769v3 [hep-ph] 3 Dec We have performed a theoretical study on the process χ c(p) Σπ, by taking into account the final state interactions of πσ and π based on the chiral unitary approach. As the isospin filters of I = in the πσ channel and I = in the π channel, this process can be used to study the molecular structure of the Λ(5) resonance, and to test the existence of the predicted states Σ(3) and Σ(3) with spin-parity J P = /2. Our results show that there is a peak around 35 MeV, and a cusp around the KN threshold in the πσ invariant mass distribution, which should be the important feature of the molecular state Λ(5). We also find a peak around 3 MeV, and a cusp around KN threshold in the π invariant mass distribution, which are associated to the Σ(3) and Σ(3) resonances. PACS numbers: I. INTRODUCTION The nature of the baryon resonances is one of the important issues in hadron physics [, 2]. There are many facilities, such as BESIII, LHCb, Belle, et al., that have presented a lot of information about baryon resonances, which provides a good platform to extract the baryon properties. On the other hand, the theoretical works go parallel, most of the existing states can be well described, and some predictions of the effective theories have been confirmed experimentally. One of the important predictions is the existence of two poles of the Λ(5) state, which were first reported in Ref. [3], discussed in detail in Ref. [] and later on confirmed in all theories using the chiral unitary approach [5 7]. The experimental confirmation came from the work of Ref. [] and the analysis of Ref. [9], but other experiments have come to confirm it too (see Refs.[, 2] for more details). The low pole mainly couples to the πσ channel, and the high one couples strongly to the KN channel [, 22]. In addition, many theoretical works about Λ(5) production induced by photon [, 22 26], pion [27], kaon [9, 2 32], neutrino [33], proton-proton collision [2, 3, 35], and heavy meson decay [36 ] were carried out to clarify the molecular nature of the Λ(5) resonance. However, it is problematic to extract the Λ(5) in some conventional reactions involving KN or πσ final states which may mix I = and I = contributions. In order to further understand the molecular structure of the Λ(5) state, we investigate the process χ c (P) Σπ, by considering the final state interaction of πσ, which will dynamically generate the two poles of the Λ(5) state in the chiral unitary approach. The χ c (P), with I G (J PC ) = + ( ++ ), is a c c state, and blind to SU(3), hence behaving like an SU(3) singlet. Since the outgoing particle has isospin I =, the πσ system must have isospin I =, to combine to the isospin I = of the χ c (P). Thus, this process is a good filter of isospin that guarantees that the πσ system will be in I =. Besides, the lower Λ(5) pole couples strongly to the πσ channel, so the πσ final state in this process is an ideal channel to study the molecular structure of the Λ(5) state. The π and can also undergo final state interaction, and the isospin of π system is I =, which together with the Σ givesrise to the isospin I = ofχ c. It should be notedthat abaryonresonancearoundthe KN threshold with J P = /2, strangeness S = and isospin I = was predicted in the chiral unitary approach [3, ] (welabel this state asσ(3)in following), and cancouple to the πλ channel. It was also suggested to search for this state in the process χ c ΣΣπ in Ref. [2]. In addition, a Σ state with J P = /2, mass M 3 MeV and width Γ MeV (we label this state as Σ(3) in following), has been predicted in the pentaquark picture [3]. The role of the Σ(3) was investigated in the processes of J/ψ decay [, 5], K p Λπ + π [6, 7], Λp Λpπ [], and Λ + c ηπ+ Λ [9], as so on. The χ c can also decay into a Σ and the intermediate resonance Σ(3) in s-wave, then the Σ(3) decays into the π states in s-wave. As a result, for the s-wave final stateinteractionofπ, wewillconsiderthemechanismof the Σ(3) dynamically generated in the chiral unitary approach, and the contribution of the intermediate resonance Σ(3). In this way, the shape of the π mass distribution of this process can be helpful to test the existences of the Σ(3) and Σ(3) resonances [2, 5]. Electronic address: wangen@zzu.edu.cn Electronic address: xiejujun@impcas.ac.cn We do not consider the contribution of the intermediate Σ(35) withj P = 3/2 inπsystem, because the Σ(35), asthe SU(3) anti-decuplet, together with the SU(3) octet state Σ, cannot give rise to the SU(3) singlet state χ c, and its contribution will be suppressed.
2 2 χ c (a) Σ π χ c (b) FIG. : Diagrams for χ c Σπ decay: (a) direct Σπ vertex at tree level, (b) final state interaction of πσ. π Σ final πσ through re-scattering. Since χ c behaves like an SU(3) singlet, and is an SU(3) anti-octet, hence, πσ system should be in an SU(3) octet, which will give rise to the same quantum numbers as Λ(5). Since both π and Σ belong to the members of SU(3) octet, we have the representation for (π) (Σ) going to the s (symmetry) and a (antisymmetry). With the SU(3) isoscalar factors given in the PDG [2], tabulated in Table I, we can obtain the weights h i in the isospin basis of this states, which go into the primary production of each meson-baryon channel, and stand for the weights of the transition χ c PB (PB = KN,πΣ,ηΛ,ΞK), TABLE I: SU(3) isoscalar coefficients for the MB matrix elements. KN πσ ηλ KΞ D F 2 2 It should be noted that the Σ(3) and Σ(3) resonancesareassumedto be the members ofthe SU(3) octet in this work, since the anti-singlet and anti-decuplet of π system are suppressed in the χ c Σπ reaction. In addition, the Lattice QCD groups have also calculated the mass of the Σ with J P = /2. For instance, the mass of the lowest Σ (J P = /2 ) is predicted to be about.2 GeV in Ref. [5] and.6. GeV in Refs. [5, 52], both of which are inconsistent with the masses of Σ(3) and Σ(35). Thus, searching for the Σ state with J P = /2 experimentally could distinguish the different theoretical predictions. This paper is organized as follows. In Sec. II, we will give the formalism of mechanisms, in Sec. III, we will present our results and discussions, finally, the conclusion will be given in Sec. IV. II. FORMALISM In this section, we will describe the reaction mechanism for the process χ c (P) Σπ. A. The model of χ c(p) Σπ In the first step, χ c (P) can decayinto the final states Σπ directly in the tree level, as depicted in Fig. (a). Then the finalparticlesπσcan undergothe finalstateinteraction, which will dynamically generate the resonance Λ(5), as depicted in Fig. (b). For the mechanism of the πσ final state interaction, we must take into account that, in the first step, one can produce the other meson-baryon pairs that couple to the same πσ quantum numbers, then reaching the h KN = D+ 2 F, 3 h πσ = 5 D, h ηλ = 5 D, h KΞ = D + 2 F, () where D and F are unknown parameters. The interaction of the octet pseudoscalar mesons and the octet /2 + baryons, which can dynamically generate the Λ(5), has been studied within the chiral unitary approach in Refs. [3, 6, 53]. In Ref. [22], a new strategy to extract the positions of the two poles of Λ(5) from πσ photoproduction experimental data was done, based on small modifications of the unitary chiral perturbation theory amplitude, which will be adopted in this work. Because the thresholds of the channels ηλ and KΞ lay far above the energies that we consider in this work, and their effect can be effectively reabsorbed in the subtraction constants, as discussed in Refs. [, 22], we donot consider these two channels in following calculations. In addition to the πσ final state interaction, the states π and alsocanundergothe finalstateinteractionin the process of χ c Σπ, as depicted in Fig. 2. In this case, we get the weights for different channels from Ref. [2], 3 h K N = D + 6 F, 2 h π Σ = 3 F, hπ = 3 h K Ξ = D + 5 D, hη Σ = 5 D, 6 F, (2) where the parameters D and F are same as those of Eq. (). As predicted in Refs. [3, ], the π system with isospin I = can undergo the s-wave final state interaction, which will dynamically generate a cusp structure around the KN threshold, associated to the Σ(3) resonance. Taking into account the s-wave final state interaction,

[22, 2]. M πσ and M π are the invariant masses of the πσ and π, respectively. In this work, we work with R = F/ D, and include the weight D of Eqs. () and (2) in the V p and Ṽp factors, as done in Ref. [2]. In Eq.(3), the amplitude for the tree level of Fig. (a) is, M tree = V p h πσ. () If we consider the transition χ c ΣP B (P B = K N, π Σ, π, η Σ, K Ξ), the amplitude for the tree level can also be given as, M tree = Ṽp h π. (5) Combing the Eqs. () and (5), we can obtain that Ṽp = V p (h πσ / h π) = 3V p. Now, the amplitude ofeq.(3) can be rewritten as, [ M = V p h πσ + h i G i (M πσ )t i,πσ (M πσ ) i 3 j π h j G j (M π)t j,π(m π) = V p (h πσ +T πσ +T π). (6) B. In this work, we take M Σ(3) = 3MeV, Γ Σ(3) = MeV as fitted in Ref. [6]. With the amplitude of Eq. (7), the invariant mass distribution of χ c (P) Σπ can be written as, dγ dm 2 πσ dm2 π π = (2π) 3 M Σ M Λ 32M 3 χ c M(M πσ,m π) 2. Finally, the curve labeled as Tree+T πσ represents the total contribution of the tree level [Fig. (a)] and the πσ final state interaction [Fig. (b)] M πλ (MeV) FIG. 5: (color online) Modulus squared of the amplitudes t KN, KN 2, t πσ,πσ 2, t πλ,πλ 2 and t KN,πΛ 2. comes from the lower pole, while the one of KN πσ amplitude comes from the higher pole. In Fig. 5, we present the modulus squared of the transition amplitudes t 2 in I =. As wecansee, aclearcusp structurearound the KN threshold is found, same as the Refs. [22, 2]. As we donot know the exact value of R(= F/ D), and the production weights of KN and πσ are expected to be same magnitude, we will vary the R from -2 to 2, as done in Ref. [2]. Firstly, we take R =, and α =.6 of the normalization in Eq. (), which gives rise to a sizeable effect of intermediate Σ(3). In Fig. 6, up to an arbitrary normalization of V p, we show the πσ invariant mass distribution, where the term of πσ final state interaction (labeled as T πσ ) gives rise to a peak around MeV, and the peak moves to low energy because of the interference with the tree level term (labeled as tree ). We also present the πσ invariant mass distribution with different values of α in Fig. 7, which shows that the contribution from the intermediate Σ(3) resonance does not significantly affect the peak position of the πσ mass distribution. The πσ invariant mass distribution with different values of R, varying from -2 to 2, is shown in Fig., where we can see that as the ratio R decreases, the peak posi FIG. 7: (color online) The πσ mass distribution of the process χ c Σπ for different values of α of Eq. The explanations of the other curves are same as those of Fig. 6. tion of the Λ(5) in the πσ mass distribution moves to the region of low energies, and a cusp structure around KN threshold appears. Indeed, the value of R can be larger than 2 or less than -2, and the peak of the πσ invariant mass distribution will vary from 36 MeV, the position of the peak in t πσ,πσ, to MeV, the one in t KN,πΣ, as shown in Fig.. As discussed in Refs. [5 57], one of the defining features associated to the molecular states that couple to several hadron-hadron channels is that one can find a strong and unexpected cusp at the threshold of the channels corresponding to the main component of the molecular state, and one of the examples is the observations of the cusp, associated to the molecular state X(6), in the B + J/ψφK + decay [55]. The peak and the cusp, observed in Fig., should be the important feature to confirm the existence of the Λ(5) in the decay of χ c Σπ. Thus, we stronglyencourageto measurethe πσ invariant mass distribution of the χ c Σπ decay. In order to check the existence of the Σ(3) and Σ(3), we also present the π invariant mass distribution in Fig. 9, wherewecan seethat there is aclearbump structure around 3 MeV, which is associated to the intermediate resonance Σ(3), and a clear cusp structure aroundthe KN threshold, which comes from the π final state interaction, as shown in Eq. (6). By varying the value of the normalization α as depicted in Fig., the bump structure of Σ(3) becomes smoother for a smaller α, and more clear for a larger one. It should be stressed that the bump structure of Σ(3), or the cusp structure around the KN threshold, if confirmed experimentally, should be related to the resonance Σ(3) or Σ(3). InFig., weshowthe πinvariantmassdistributions by varying the ratio R from -2 to 2. As we can see that the peak structure of the Σ(3) and the cusp structure around the KN threshold are always clear for different values of the ratio R. In addition, the Σ states can also process the final FIG. : (color online) The π mass distribution of the process χ c Σπ for different values of α of Eq. () M π Λ (MeV) FIG. : (color online) The π mass distribution of the process χ c Σπ for different values of the ratio R. state interaction, which could give rise to some sharp structure (for instances, cusp) at the ΣΣ threshold, and induce some reflection effect on the πσ and π invariant mass distributions. By looking at the Dalitz plots of the χ c Σπ process, as shown in Fig. 2, we find that the sharp structure around ΣΣ in the Σ distribution only contributes to the πσ and π invariant mass distribution 5 MeV beyond the regions of the Λ(5) and the Σ. Indeed, we have discussed the effect of the sharpstructure around ΣΣ thresholdon the πσ invariant mass distribution of the χ c ΣΣπ process in Ref. [2], a similar reaction as the present one, and show that the structure of πσ invariant mass distribution remains unchanged. Thus, the sharp structure around ΣΣ threshold should have no significant effect on our predictions, and can be safely neglected in here. So far we have considered only two-body interactions of the final three particles. It is known that the three-body dynamics plays also a major and sometimes dominant role in the understanding of hadronic resonances [5 6] However, including such contributions the decay amplitudes would become more complex due to additional parameters, and we cannot determine or constraint these parameters, since there are no experimental data on the

Hence, we will leave these contributions to future studies when experimental data become available. Finally, it should be noted that the SIDDHARTA measurement of kaonic hydrogen gives an accurate constraint on the K p scattering length [62], and the interaction kernel with the next-to-leading order chiral perturbation theory is used with the systematic χ 2 analysis in Refs. [3, 5, 6, 63 66] (The important theoretical input for a reliable analysis of SIDDHARTA data can be seen in Ref. [67]). However, as a motivation for measuring this process experimentally, we use the model of the final state interaction of the πσ of I = developed in Ref. [22], which can also produce the main feature of the amplitudes of πσ KN and πσ πσ given by the more accurate model. (a) (b) IV. CONCLUSIONS In this paper, we have studied the process χ c (P) Σπ by taking into account the final state interactions of πσ and π within the chiral unitary approach. As the isospin I = filter in the πσ system and the isospin I = filter in the π system, this process can be used to study the molecular structure of Λ(5) state, and to search for the predicted states Σ(3) or Σ(3) with J P = /2. We have shown that, there is a peak of 35 MeV, and a cusp around the KN in the πσ mass distribution, which should be the important feature of the molecular state Λ(5). Indeed, the intermediate Σ(35) state cannot be fully suppressed because SU(3) symmetry is known be substantially broken. If a bump is observed around 3 MeV in the π invariant mass distribution, one cannot be % sure it comes from the Σ(3) resonance, since we do not know the extent to which the Σ(35) is not suppressed. However, the width of Σ(35) (about MeV) is smallerthan that of the Σ(3)( MeV as predicted), so the corresponding bump structures should have different widths. On the other hand, the decay into π should proceed in s-wave to give rise to the quantum numbers of the Σ(3), and proceed in p-wave to give rise to the ones of the Σ(35). Thus, the partial wave analysis, if the experimental data is available in future, can also be used to distinguish these two resonances. In summary, the process χ c Σπ can be used to study the molecular structure of the Λ(5) resonance, and also to test the existences of the predicted states Σ(3) and Σ(3).
