E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 1
Status Report of the RP Assessment for the East Area Upgrade E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS), R. Froeschl (HSE-RP-AS), M. Van Dijk (EN-EA) Setptember 14, 2018 E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 2
Target zone dump optimization Residual dose rates optimization Conclusions E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 3
Dump optimization Only beam on T10 target was studied the most penalizing case due to T11 beam line The configuration of the dump for the T9 beam line is under investigation because of the diameter of the pipe shielding downstream of the dump is being studied Studies performed for the prompt and the residual radiation E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 4
Dump optimization Scenarios Tungsten block 20*20*40 cm 3 inserted in the dump, 10 cm downstream of the front face of the dump centred around the beam E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 5
Dump optimization Scenarios Tungsten block 20*20*40 cm *24*10 cm 3 inserted in the dump, 10 cm downstream of the front face of the dump centred around the beam E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 6
Prompt Dose Rate Tungsten block X (cm) Prompt radiation for T10 3.3e10 p/s, 40cm tungsten block 1e+09 1e+08 1e+07 1e Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate (µsv/h) Z (cm) 0.1 E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 7
Prompt Dose Rate Tungsten block extended Prompt radiation for T10 3.3e10 p/s, 40cm tungsten block + 10cm f.tungsten block 1e+09 X (cm) e+08 1e+07 1e Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate (µsv/h) Z (cm) 0.1 E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 8
Summary There is not a significant reduction of the prompt dose rate between the 2 cases studied a bigger block will reduce the prompt dose rate Optimization of the dump will decrease the prompt dose downstream as well as on the roof If radiation from T10 dump is significantly reduced also the part of target zone dump for T9 should be optimized E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 9
Residual dose rates optimization Adding movable shieldings for the 2 impact points of the beam on the dumps centred around the beam E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 10
Lateral shielding close to the 2 targets 2 concrete blocks of 20*80*80 cm 3 laterally placed to T9 and T10 target E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 11
Residual dose rate lateral shielding T9 x (cm) Residual Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate for T9 Copper target 20 years 3.3e10 p/s, 3h cool down z (cm) Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate (µsv/h) E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 12
Residual dose rate lateral shielding T10 x (cm) Residual Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate for T10 Copper target 20 years 3.3e10 p/s, 3h cool down z (cm) Ambient Dose Equivalent Rate (µsv/h) E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 13
Summary Residual dose rate in the target zone is affected by the dump design chosen Optimization of the residual dose rate in the target area shall be further investigated shielding of 2 impact points on the dumps local shielding around the targets Reduction of residual dose downstream possible E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 14
Conclusions Dump optimization Selection of dump configuration required input for the design of the rest of the shielding Target dump for T9 is under investigation Optimization of residual radiation in the target area required E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 15
Thank you E. Iliopoulou (HSE-RP-AS) EDMS Status RP Assessment - East Area Upgrade 16
