axiv: v [math.ca] 3 Aug 9 On L-convegence of tigonometic seies Bogdan Szal Univesity of Zielona Góa, Faculty of Mathematics, Compute Science and Econometics, Zielona Góa, ul. Szafana 4a, Poland Abstact In the pesent pape we conside the tigonometic seies with(β, ) geneal monotone and (β, )-est bounded vaiation coefficients. Necessay and sufficien conditions of L-convegence fo such seies ae obtained in tems of the coefficients. Keywods and phases:tigonometic seies; Fouie seies; L-convegence; Embedding elations. Mathematics Subject Classification: 4A, 4A3 Intoduction Let L L be the space of all integable functions f of peiod with the nom f := f (x) dx. We ae inteesting in the tigonometic seies of the fom c k e ikx. (.) k= In special cases, if c k = c k = a k then we obtain the cosine seies a (.) k=
Bogdan Szal o, when c k = c k = i b k, we get the sine seies b k sinkx. (.3) k= We define by h(x), f (x) and g(x) the sums of the seies (.), (.) and (.3), espectively, when the seies ae convegent at point x. Moeove, denote by S n (h,x), S n (f,x) and S n (g,x) the patial sum of these seies, espectively. We note that in the case when the sequences of the coefficients of seies (.) and (.3) ae nonnegative monotone deceasing sequences ((a n ),(b n ) M) one has f,g L iff seies (.) and (.3) ae the Fouie seies of f and g, espectively. Moeove, the condition a kk < (o b kk < ) guaantees f L (o g L). k= k= Also, it is clea that if seies (.) is the Fouie seies then the condition whee V n (f,x) = n V n (f) S n (f) = o(), n S k (f,x), is equivalent to convegence of S n (f,x) in L. k= The same esults holds fo seies (.3) as well. The following theoem povides a citeion of the convegence of S n (f,x) in the tems of the coefficients of (.) and (.3) (see [7]) Theoem. Suppose that (a n ) M and a n. Let f L, then f S n (f) = o() iff a n lnn = o(). (.4) The same esults holds fo seies (.3) as well. Natually, one would ask if the monotone condition of the coefficients can be weakened? Indeed, many esults have appeaed with moe geneal conditions in place of the monotone condition. Fo example, Gaett, Rees, Stanojević [6] and Teljakovskiĭ, Fomin[3] poved that(.4) holds tue fo any quasimonotone sequence ((a n ),(b n ) QM). Late, Stanojevic [] and Xie, Zhou[] intoducedo-egulaly quasimonotone coefficients ((a n ),(b n ) ORVQM). Hee, and QM = (a n ) R : τ > such that ( n τ a n ) ORVQM = (a n ) R : (λ n ),λ n Cλ n such that ( λ n a n ).
On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 3 Recently, Leindle (see [], fo example) intoduced the class RBVS = (a n ) C : a n a n C a m fo all m N, n=m which possess many good popeties of monotone sequences, and have been used to genealize many classical esults in Fouie analysis. Howeve Leindle also pointed out that RBVS and QM cannot contain each othe. Recent investigations on L-convegence poblem can be found in e.g. [,, 3, 4, 5, 8,,, 4, 8,, 3]. Fo example, the following classes of coefficients wee studied. The class of geneal monotone coefficients GM, is defined as GM = (a n ) C : m n=m a n a n C a m fo all m N It tuns out that fo the seies with GM-coefficients one can pove thee convegence citeia fo tigonometic seies in L p : fo p =, p = and < p < (see [4]). The GBVS [8] and NBVS [] classes ae defined as follow:. and m n=m NBVS = GBVS = (a n ) C a n a n C max m n Nm a n fo some intege N and all m N a n C : m n=m a n a n C( a m a m ) fo all m N. Fo the above mentioned classes the following embedding elations ae tue: M QM ORVQM GM GBVS NBVS and M RBVS GM GBVS NBVS. Fo the GBVS and NBVS classes citeion (.4) was poved in [8] and [], espectively.
4 Bogdan Szal Moeove, fo a moe geneal class m MVBV = a n C : a n a n C n=m [cm] n=[m/c] a n n fo some c > and all m N citeion (.4) was consideed in [] In [4, 5, 6] Tikhonov defined the class of β geneal monotone sequences as follows: Definition. Let β := (β n ) be a nonnegative sequence. The sequence of complex numbes a := (a n ) is said to be β geneal monotone, o a GM (β), if the elation holds fo all m N. m n=m a n a n Cβ m β n : In the pape [7] Tikhonov consideed the following examples of the sequences (i) β n = a n, (ii) β n = nn fo some intege N, (iii) 3 β n = N a c ν n fo some integes N and c >, ν= (iv) 4 β n = a n (v) 5 β n = [cn] k=[n/c] [cn] (vi) 6 β n = lnn max m [n/c] k fo some c >, k fo some c >, ( lnm m m k=m We know that (see [6] and [7]) ) fo some c >. GM ( β β 3 β 4 β 5 β) GM ( 5 β) GM ( 6 β). WealsonotethatGM ( β) = GM, GM ( β) = GBVS andnbvs GM ( 3 β). We wite I I if thee exists a positive constant K such that I KI. In ode to fomulate ou new esults we define anothe classes of sequences.
On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 5 Definition. [9]Let β := (β n ) be a nonnegative sequence and a natual numbe. The sequence of complex numbes a := (a n ) is said to be (β,) geneal monotone, o a GM (β,), if the elation holds fo all m N. m n=m a n a n Cβ m Definition 3. Let β := (β n ) be a nonnegative sequence and a natual numbe. The sequence of complex numbes a := (a n ) is said to be (β,) est bounded vaiation sequence, o a RBVS(β,), if the elation a n a n Cβ m holds fo all m N. n=m It is clea that RBVS(β,) GM (β,) fo all N. Moeove, GM (β,) GM (β) and RBVS(β,) RBVS(β) (RBVS RBVS( β)). The next embedding elations ae fomulated in the following emaks: Remak. Let be a natual numbe such that = p q, whee p,q N. If a nonnegative sequence β := (β n ) is such that fo all n, then p β ni q β n (.5) i= Remak. Let q, N and q. Then GM (β,q) GM (β,). RBVS(β,q) RBVS(β,) It is clea that the sequences ( 5 β n ) and ( 6 β n ) satisfy the condition (.5). Thus in special case q =, fom the befoe emak we obtain the following embedding elations: GM ( 5 β) GM ( 5 β,) GM ( 5 β,) and GM ( 6 β) GM ( 6 β,) GM ( 6 β,) (.6) fo all N. InthisnoteweshallpesentthepopetiesoftheclassesGM (β,)andrbvs(β,). Moeove, wegenealize andextendtotheclassgm (β,)andtheclass RBVS(β,) the Tikhonov esults, which ae included in [7].
6 Bogdan Szal Main esults The following esults ae tue: Theoem. Let c = (c n ) GM (β,), whee N and a nonnegative sequence β = (β n ) satisfies n k=[n/] β k [γn] k=[n/γ] c k (.) fo some γ >. If V n (h) S n (h) = o() then c n lnn = o(). Theoem 3. Let a = (a n ) GM (β,), whee a nonnegative sequence β = (β n ) satisfies n k=[n/] β k β k a k k n = o(). Then V n (f) S n (f) = o() (.) holds. Theoem 3 implies the following esults, immediately. Coollay. Let a = (a n ) GM (β,), such that (β n β n a n a n )lnn = o(). Then (.) holds tue. emak. In paticula, fom above Coollay and Theoem we can deive the following Remak 3. Let a = (a n ) GM ( 6 β,). Then V n (f) S n (f) = o() iff a n lnn = o() Remak 4. If we confine ou attention to the class GM ( 6 β) then by (.6) the Tikhonov esult ( see [7, Coollay 3.3.] ) follows fom Remak 3.
On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 7 Theoem 4. Let a = (a n ) RBVS(β,), whee 3. If a nonnegative sequence β = (β n ) satisfies then k= β k k < (.3) S n (f) f = o(). (.4) Theoem 5. Let b = (b n ) RBVS(β,), whee and a nonnegative sequence β = (β n ) satisfies (.3). Then S n (g) g = o(). (.5) Remak 5. (i) Thee exists a sequence (a n ) RBVS( 5 β,3) with the popety a n lnn = o() such that the seies (.) is not convegent in L-nom. (ii) Thee exists a sequence (b n ) RBVS( 5 β,) with the popety b n lnn = o() such that the seies (.3) is not convegent in L-nom. Remak 6. Fo any 3 thee exists a sequence d = (d n ) RBV ( 6 β,) with the popety β k k <, which does not belong to the class GM ( 6 β,). k= Combining Theoem 3, 4 and 5 we obtain the following assetion. Remak 7. Let c = (c n ) RBV (β,), whee. If a nonnegative sequence β = (β n ) satisfies then k= β k k < S n (h) h = o(). 3 Lemmas Lemma. Let N, l Z and a := (a n ) C. If x l, then fo all m n m = k=m m ( (a k a k )sin k ) x sin(x/) ( a k sin k ) n ( x a k sin k ) x (3.)
8 Bogdan Szal and m a k sinkx = k=m m ( (a k a k )cos k ) x sin(x/) ( a k cos k ) n x ( a k cos k ) x. (3.) Poof. We stat with poof of the equality (3.). An elementay calculation gives = m = m (a k a k )coskx m (a k a k )coskxcosx On the othe hand = Hence m m a k sinkx = m sinx m (a k a k )sinkx m a k sinkx a k sinkx. (3.3) n n (a k a k )sinkxcosx a k sinkx sinx. (3.4) ( cosx) Theefoe, if x l, then sinx a k sinkx = n a k sinkx = Putting this to (3.3) we get m = m (a k a k )sinkx sinx a k sinkx k=m a k sinkx. m sin (a k a k )sinkx (x/) n a k sinkx k=m m (a k a k )coskxcosx a k sinkx.
Thus cos(x/) sin(x/) On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 9 m (a k a k )sinkx cos x cos(x/) n a k sinkx cos(x/) sin(x/) sin(x/) n ( = (a k a k )sin k ) sin(x/) cos(x/) n a k sinkx cos(x/) sin(x/) sin(x/) and (3.) holds. m = sin(x/) m cos(x/) n a k sinkx cos(x/) sin(x/) sin(x/) = k=m n sin(x/) m k=m k=m a k sinkx a k sinkx. ( (a k a k )sin k ) k=m k=m ( (a k a k )sin k ) x a k sinkx ( a k sin k ) n ( x a k sin k ) x Now we show that (3.) is tue, too. By (3.3) we get ( cosx) Theefoe, if x l, then sinx = n m (a k a k )coskxsinx k=m. k=n m = sin (a k a k )coskx (x/) n n a k sinkx. a k sinkx
Bogdan Szal Putting this to (3.4) and making the same calculation as befoe we obtain that (3.) holds, too. The poof is complete. 4 Poofs of the main esults In this section we shall pove ou theoems and emaks. 4. Poof of Remak Let = p q and (a n ) GM (β,q). Then using (.5) we get n n p ( ) a k a k = akl q a k(l) q n p p akl q a k(l) q = l= whence (a n )GM (β,). l= l= nl q l q p a k a kq β nl q β n l= 4. Poof of Remak Let q, N and q. Then thee exists a natual numbe p such that = p q. Supposing (a n ) RBVS(β,q) we have fo all n p ( ) a k a k = akl q a k(l) q l= l= l q l= p p akl q a k(l) q = a k a kq p a k a kq β n. Hence (a n ) RBVS(β,) and this ends ou poof. 4.3 Poof of Theoem Let (c n ) GM (β,), whee. We will show that n c n [γn] k=[n/γ] c k, γ >.
On L-convegence of tigonometic seies If n, then the inequality obviously holds. Now, let n >. Fo j = n,n,...,n we get j j j j c k c k c k c k ( c k c k ) c k and fo j n we obtain c n [j/] k=[j/] n j c k j c k c k Summing up on j and using (.) we get c n n j=n n c n = n j=n c n β [j/] c n = n j=n n j j= j k=j j c k c k n j=n k=j c k j c k β [j/] c n β [j/] c k n j=[n/] n j=n j k=j k=j c k Futhe, applying Theoem (8.) [4, Chapte 7] we obtain The poof is complete. c n lnn = lnn n [γn] k=[n/γ] c n c k. n β j c k c k = o(). j [γn] k=[n/γ] c k c k. 4.4 Poof of Theoem 3 Fist, using inequality (see []) V n (f) S n (f) n n S j (f) S [j/] max j= k=[n/],...,n S k (f) S [n/] (f) we note that max S m(f) S n (f) n m n = o() (4.)
Bogdan Szal implies (.). Let us now show that ou condition on (a n ) quaantines the accuacy of (4.). Indeed, by Lemma, m k=m = m S m (f) S n (f) = a k cos(k ) m k=m = m (a k a k )sin(k)x sinx n a k sin(k )x a k sin(k )x dx m sin(k )x sin x a k a k n dx sin(k)x dx sin x Futhe, we estimate the above integals. Fo k n we get = /(k n) / /(k n) sin(k)x dx sin x /(k n) / = I I I 3 I 4. sin(k )x sin x /(k n) dx. Using the inequalities : sin(k )x (k ) sinx, sinx [ x fo x, ] sin(k )x dx sinx and sinx ( ) x [ ] fo x, we obtain that I (k ) /(k n) dx = k k n, I / /(k n) x dx = ln(k n),
and I 3 Theefoe, fo k n, On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 3 I 4 (k ) /(k n) / /(k n) xdx = ln(k n) dx = k k n. sin(k )x dx (ln(k n)) ln(k n). sin x Similaly we can show that Hence sin(k )x dx ln(k n). sin x S m (f) S n (f) m k=m m a k a k ln(k n) n ln(k n) ln(k n). It is clea that fo m n m n a k a k a k Theefoe, if (a n ) GM (β,), then m k=m S m (f) S n (f) m k=m. m a k a k ln(k n) ( m ln(k n)ln(n3) a k a k ( m a k a k ln(k n3)ln(m n3) m a k a k k l=[n/] m l n l=[n/] l n m k=m m k=m m k=m ) )
4 Bogdan Szal n l=[n/] m l=[n/] m l=[n/] l n m k=[n/] l n a k a k ( l k l=[n/] k=l ( l l n ( l k=l n k=[n/] k=l l k=l l n ) m a k a k k=l ) m a k a k k=l a k a k β k β k a k. k n 4l k=l a k a k Thus, we obtain (4.), which yields (.) and the poof is complete. ) 4.5 Poof of Theoem 4 If (a n ) RBV (β,) then k= k k= β k k <. Thus a n = o() and by (3.) we obtain that, fo x l, l Z, ( = (a k a k )sin k ) x sin(x/) n ( a k sin k ) x. Theefoe f (x) S n (f;x) = a k a k sin(x/) It is clea that fo an odd S n (f) f = n f (x) S n (f;x) dx β n sin(x/). (4.)

(4.4) whee M := M (x) and k =,,...,[/] if is an even numbe, and k =,,...,[/] if is an odd numbe. Then, fo n M, by (4.) we get n f (x) S n (f;x) dx = n M= M M f (x) S n (f;x) dx n M= M M β n sin(x/) dx. Using the inequality ( sin ) [ x k x fo x, ] (4.5) we have n f (x) S n (f;x) dx β n n = β n n M= M= M M x kdx M β nln(n). (4.6)
6 Bogdan Szal If M n then by (4.) M k=m Hence, using (4.5), M β M sin(x/). (4.7) n f (x) S n (f;x) dx = M=n M M f (x) S n (f;x) dx M=n Let M=n M M M=n M M (M ) M M M=n ( M β M sin(x/) β M β M M β k k x < (k ) M M M=k ) dx x kdx M M=n β M M β k k. 17 On L-convegence of tigonometic seies 7 Using the inequality we get (k) x sin ( x ) fo x [ ] (k ), (4.9) (k) n f (x) S n (f;x) dx = β n n N= If N n then, by (4.7) and (4.9), n N= β n (k) N (k) N (k ) xdx N β nln(n). (4.) Futhemoe by the assumption (.3) we obtain that (.4) follows and thus the poof is complete. 4.6 Poof of Theoem 5 If (b n ) RBV (β,) then k= b k k k= β k k <.
8 Bogdan Szal Thus b n = o() and by (3.) we obtain that fo x l, l Z ( = (a k a k )cos k ) x sin(x/) n ( a k cos k ) x, whence f (x) S n (f;x) = a k a k sin(x/) n β n sin(x/). (4.) Similaly, as in the pevious poof, using (4.) we can also show that S n (g) g β n ln(n) Thus by the assumption (.3) we obtain that (.5) follows and ou poof is complete. β k k. 4.7 Poof of Remak 5 (i) Let fo n 3l, l N, a n = lnn ln(lnn) fo n = 3l, l N.
