2 TEAM NOTES HOLDING STRONG AT 7-3 Duke owns three 7-3 or better records in the last six years, marking the program s most successful stretch since going 7-3 or better four times from The Blue Devils seven regular season wins are the most since seven in LOOKING FOR EIGHT Duke enters Saturday s game looking for its eighth victory of the season. It would mark the fourth time in 11 campaigns under head coach David Cutcliffe reaching the seven-win plateau. Prior to Cutcliffe s arrival in 2008, the Blue Devils had not won eight games in a season since posting eight victories in A win would give Duke four seasons with eight or more wins in the last six years, the most successful stretch for the program since four in six from A WINNING SEASON SECURED Duke has earned its fifth winning season in the last six years, the most successful stretch for the Blue Devils since five winning campaigns in six seasons between BOWL ELIGIBLE AGAIN Duke has secured bowl eligibility for the sixth time in the last seven years. A RARE SOUTH CAROLINA VISIT Duke will be making its first trip to the state of South Carolina for a football game since facing on November 15, DUKE IN CROSSOVER GAMES Since the ACC split into Coastal and Atlantic Divisions in 2005, Duke has gone against Atlantic Division foes. Since Cutcliffe took over the program in 2008, the Blue Devils have posted an record versus the Atlantic Division. The Blue Devils went 0-2 against ranked opponents in, falling 31-6 to No. 14 Miami on September 29 and dropping a 24-3 decision to No. 23 Virginia Tech on October 28. 3 OFFENSIVE NOTES POINTS IN PERSPECTIVE Duke s 313 points are more than the Blue Devils totaled in any of the 13 seasons ( ) before head coach David Cutcliffe took over the program. The Blue Devils are just 43 points away from the program s top five in a single season. TOUCHDOWNS PER GAME ON THE RISE Duke has scored 42 touchdowns in 10 games, an average of 4.20 TDs per contest. In, Duke scored 42 touchdowns in 13 games, good for an average of 3.23 per contest. AIMING FOR 30+ POINTS PER GAME AGAIN Duke averages points per game after averaging in and in The Blue Devils averaged or more points per game just seven other times in program history: 33.50/1943; 32.79/2013; 32.38/2014; 32.70/1941; 31.54/2012; 31.54/2015; and 30.00/1994. TWO QUARTERBACKS, 11+ TDS EACH With redshirt junior quarterback Quentin Harris two-yard touchdown rush versus North Carolina, the Blue Devils have two quarterbacks with 11 or more touchdowns responsible for. Harris has 11 (7 4 rush/7 pass) while redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Jones has 18 (2 rush/16 pass). Duke joins California, Georgia Tech and Toledo as the only programs with multiple quarterbacks responsible for 11 or more touchdowns. TWO QUARTERBACKS, 7+ TD PASSES APIECE Harris and Jones have each thrown seven or more touchdown passes. The Blue Devils join Oregon State and Texas Tech as the only Power 5 programs with two players having seven or more TD tosses apiece. VETERAN RECEIVERS IN ACTION Duke has 205 total receptions with only 12 from freshmen (.059). The top three receivers for the Blue Devils in both yards and catches are senior wide receiver T.J. Rahming, redshirt senior wide receiver Johnathan Lloyd and redshirt senior wide receiver Chris Taylor. Of Duke s 25 receiving touchdowns, 21 are by seniors or redshirt seniors (.840). DUKE PASSING TDS Duke owns 25 passing touchdowns, an average of 2.50 per contest. The 25 aerial scores are tied for the 15th most nationally and the ACC s second most. Duke s 25 passing touchdowns are the fourth most in a season in program history: Year Passing Touchdowns RECEIVING TOUCHDOWNS For the first time in program history, Duke has three players with five or more receiving touchdowns with Rahming (6), redshirt senior tight end Davis Koppenhaver (6) and Lloyd (5). Rahming entered with three career TD receptions and doubled that output this season. He and Koppenhaver are tied for sixth in the ACC, and tied for 58th nationally, with six scoring grabs. Rahming and Koppenhaver s six receiving touchdowns are the 18th most in a year in program history and the most by a Duke player since Issac Blakeney s seven in In the first 10 games of, Duke s wide receivers combined for four touchdown receptions. This season, the unit has combined for 14 TD grabs. TOUCHDOWN TO INTERCEPTION RATIO This season, Duke owns a 25:6 touchdown-tointerception ratio. The Blue Devils rank tied for 36th nationally with the six interceptions. Of the 35 teams who have fewer interceptions than Duke, only Alabama (34) and Oklahoma (33) have more touchdown passes than Duke s 25. The 4.2:1 TD to INT ratio is the best for the Blue Devils in program history. Jones 2.67:1 touchdown to interception ratio is the best in a year in program history. ANOTHER PERFORMANCE Jones turned in the third game in program history last Saturday against North Carolina with 361 yards passing and 186 rushing. Jones owns two of Duke s three performances with one versus Northwestern in. In ACC history, Jones joins Lamar Jackson (Louisville/5) and Tahj Boyd (/2) as the only quarterbacks with multiple games. Jackson joins Cuthbert and Chris Douglas (304/ Florida State/2001) as the only Blue Devils to surpass 300 all-purpose yards in a game. CARRYING THE LOAD In Duke s last five games, Jackson has taken the majority of the Blue Devils carries with 73. Jones owns 62 carries while no other Blue Devil has more than nine. Jackson has totaled 468 yards, Jones 286 and no other Blue Devil has reached 22 ground yards in the last five contests. Jackson scored on a four-yard touchdown run versus North Carolina and has at least one TD in three consecutive games, and seven of the last eight. In the last three games, Jackson has averaged yards per touch (41 rushes, seven receptions, nine kickoff returns/663 yards). RAHMING IN TOP 10 NATIONALLY Rahming finished with nine receptions versus North Carolina, giving him 17 consecutive games with three or more catches. He is 10th among FBS active leaders in career receiving yards (2,626), third among Power 5 active players behind Arizona State s N Keal Harry (2,729) and Ole Miss A.J. Brown (2,711). 4 DEFENSIVE NOTES THREE STARTERS OUT WITH INJURIES In week two at Northwestern, Duke junior cornerback Mark Gilbert suffered a season-ending hip injury. Gilbert was named to six preseason All- America squads and was a unanimous first team All-ACC selection. In week six at Georgia Tech, Duke redshirt senior starting defensive tackle Edgar Cerenord was lost to a season-ending injury after rupturing his right Achilles tendon. In week 10 versus North Carolina, Duke junior starting safety Dylan Singleton was lost to a fractured left ankle. SINGLETON HAVING CAREER YEAR Prior to suffering his ankle injury, Singleton had stepped into a starting role in and surpassed his production from his first two years combined: Year G/GS Tackles TFL QBS CF / / / Singleton owned four double-digit tackle performance this year, becoming the first Blue Devil safety with four 10+ tackle games in a season since Jeremy Cash had five in Cash was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in HILL MAKES FIRST CAREER START With redshirt junior linebacker Joe Giles-Harris missing the North Carolina game due to injury, redshirt sophomore Brandon Hill made his first career start and booked a team-high 10 tackles. Hill owns 15 tackles in the last three weeks after having 12 in his career entering the game at Pittsburgh. BUCKLING DOWN IN THE SECOND HALF In the last two games, Miami and North Carolina have rolled up 638 yards of total offense in the first halves. In the second halves, though, the Blue Devils rebounded to yield less than half that with 309 yards of total offense. In the third quarter versus North Carolina, Duke allowed just 23 yards of offense. ONE HALF OR THE OTHER Through 10 games this season, five opponents have scored in both halves against the Blue Devils: Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh and North Carolina. Duke has pitched first half shutouts against Army West Point and Baylor and second half blankings versus Northwestern, N.C. Central and Miami. 20 OR LESS POINTS PER GAME Duke held seven foes to 20 points or fewer in and has kept five to 20 points or less in. The Blue Devils ranked 21st nationally in scoring defense (20.23) in and are 49th heading into Saturday s contest (23.50). Duke is aiming for consecutive seasons allowing 21 or fewer points per game for the first time since STEPPING UP ON THIRD DOWN In the last three games, opponents are a combined 12-of-37 (.324 percent) on third down attempts. In the three previous contests, foes were a combined 22-of-50 (.440 percent) on third down. LITTLE FOURTH DOWN SUCCESS After allowing Army West Point to convert all four fourth down attempts during the season opener, the Blue Devils have yielded just six fourth down conversions during the last nine games. DUKE FORCING & RECOVERING FUMBLES Duke, which recovered just four fumbles last season, has eight fumble recoveries already in. The Blue Devils recovered three fumbles at Georgia Tech, their most in a contest since three against North Carolina on November 20, 2014, and recovered two more at Miami. Duke has also forced 16 fumbles by 13 different Blue Devils. Only Victor Dimukeje (2), Singleton (2) and Derrick Tangelo (2) have more than one forced fumble. TWO FUMBLE RECOVERIES FOR HUMPHREYS Senior linebacker Ben Humphreys recovered two fumbles at Miami, becoming the first Blue Devil with two fumble recoveries in a game since Dwayne Norman at Florida State on October 27, HUMPHREYS A FINALIST Humphreys has been named a finalist for the 9th Annual National College Football Award, presented by the Pop Warner Little Scholars. The award was established in 2010 to recognize a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community and serves as a role model to Pop Warner s young student athletes. LOOKING FOR INTS Duke has recorded just three interceptions this season. A year ago, the Blue Devils had 12 INTs through the first 10 games. Through nine games in Duke had also recorded 42 pass breakups while this year s defense has totaled 29. LIMITED PASSING SUCCESS Duke has held opponents to 10 passing touchdowns through 10 games, the third fewest in the ACC and tied for the 15th fewest nationally. Foes have posted a quarterback rating against Duke, the fourth-best mark in the league. Opponents are averaging yards passing per game, which would give Duke s defense consecutive years of 201 or fewer passing yards a contest for the first time since Before North Carolina threw for 221 yards last Saturday, Duke had held four consecutive opponents to fewer than 200 passing yards, the longest streak for the Blue Devils since five consecutive from September 12-October 10, It was the first time Duke has accomplished the feat against four consecutive Power 5 programs since October 10-November 7, TURNOVER UPS AND DOWNS Duke s defense forced two turnovers at Miami after not creating one in consecutive contests. GILES-HARRIS IN THE 300 CLUB Giles-Harris became the 20th Blue Devil to reach 300 career tackles with his 10 stops at Pittsburgh. Under Cutcliffe, Giles-Harris (313) is the seventh Blue Devil to reach 300 career tackles, joining Michael Tauiliili (434 tackles), David Helton (347), Jeremy Cash (333), Vincent Rey (330), DeVon Edwards (327) and Matt Daniels (324). Giles-Harris recorded his 14th career double-digit tackle contest at Miami with a game-high 12 stops. This season, Giles-Harris owns 54 tackles in five league games (10.80 tackles per game) played and double-digit tackles in three of his last four contests. 5 SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES JACKSON S STRONG KOR PERFORMANCE Sophomore Deon Jackson registered 152 kickoff return yards at Pittsburgh, marking the most by a Blue Devil in a game since Shaun Wilson had 181 at Pittsburgh on November 19, Jackson entered the game against the Panthers with 133 career kickoff return yards. Rahming has 101 yards on punt returns this season after totaling 91 yards in all of. Rahming had the best punt return performance of his career at Baylor, running back three punts for a personal-best 59 yards. Wareham is also 40-of-42 on PAT tries. Wareham s 40 PATs are the sixth most in a year for a Blue Devil. Ross Martin set the record in 2013 with 58 PATs. JONES AS A PUNTER Redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Jones punted for the first two times of the season at Miami and had both downed inside the Miami 10-yard line. PARKER S BEST SEASON Redshirt junior punter Austin Parker is averaging a career-high yard per boot, the sixth best in the ACC in punting average.
