Lovereading4kids Reader reviews of Witchworld by Emma Fischel Below are the complete reviews, written by Lovereading4kids members. Beth Honeyman, age 11 Witchworld is an outstanding book filled with passion, love, loss, fun and witches. Flo is a normal modern day witchgirl who isn t the best witch in town. Her grandmother on the other hand is an old fashioned witch with her broom, wand and cauldron. Grandma also has a great belief in ghouls which to the rest of the family seems a bit crazy. Granny says that one day Witchworld is going to be attacked by (long extinct) ghouls. Can this be true? Enjoy Flo s wonderful adventure and immerse yourself in a world of witches where old fashioned ideals and practices collide with high tech magic. Go on jump in you will not be disappointed. Eleesha Walker, age 8 ½ I would give this book 9/10 because it's a magical mysterious adventure and made me feel excited and a little bit spooked. I really loved the characters being witches and ghouls. Grandma went against all the rules and made Flo invisible so she could sit on the end of Grandma's flying broomstick and take her to North Witchland. In North Witchland there was a forest which had Forest Pixies. Grandma told her

about ghouls but mum and Hetty did not believe grandma because they thought that ghouls where extinct centurys ago. Soon Hetty and Flo began to believe Grandma. I couldn't wait to finish the book beause it was so exciting and I loved it. Brodie Greenslade, age 8 Witchworld is a great book, full of magic, mystery and fun. Witchworld is a story about a modern witchgirl called Flo who lives with her witch family mother, sister and mad grandmother. Flo's grandma thinks that Witchworld is going to be attacked by long-extinct ghouls and when mysterious goings-on start to occur and people begin to disappear, Grandma thinks the ghouls are responsible. Is she right, or is Grandma really as batty as she seems? I liked Witchworld because it had adventure, fun and magic. It was also a little bit scary in places! The characters were great and I also really liked Chris Riddell's illustrations. Sam Harper, age 10 Witchworld is a brilliantly funny, witchy adventure with awesome illustrations. It had me hooked from page one and I absolutely loved it. Amazing! Flo is a very modern witchgirl living in Haggspit, South Witchenlands She's a Frixie (Friend of Forest Pixies) and she's crazy about them, but who wouldn't be? With their huge eyes, flappy ears and springy tails which they use for bungee jumping from trees. And they're endangered. There's only 94 of them left, or is it 95? Flo has a famous mum, a witchteen sister, Hetty, who only cares about her nose and a dotty, old fashioned grandma who Flo thinks has Confusions. Grandma still uses a magic wand rather than a spellstick and believes that ghouls are going to attack Haggspit, even though everyone knows that ghouls were wiped out during the magicquake in the Great Ghoul War. But when Flo sees ghouls for herself in the magic mirror she suddenly realises how real the situation is. She and Grandma must save Haggspit and the whole of Witchworld but it's hard when no one else believes that ghouls still exist. How can Flo and Grandma stop them when Grandma has knocked herself out and Mum thinks that Flo has Confusions? Could Flo's love of forest pixies help?

Witchworld is a brilliantly funny, witchy adventure. I love Frixie Flo and her dotty old grandma with her misbehaving magic wand and the toadflap she fitted for her hundreds of pet toads. The forest pixies are really cute and the illustrations are awesome, they really bring the characters alive. This book had me hooked from page one. I absolutely loved it. Amazing! Alina Wraith, age 9 I loved this book. It is exciting and adventurous. It has a lot of description and has a good story structure. I knew I was going to enjoy it as soon as I saw the cover. Witchworld is a fantastic story about Flo who is a modern witchkid. In modern day Witchworld witches don t use wands anymore. Flo starts a big adventure when ghouls, who were pronounced extinct, came to a talk! I loved this book. It is exciting and adventurous. It has a lot of description and has a good story structure. I knew I was going to enjoy it as soon as I saw the cover. Flo is really adventurous and becomes braver as the story goes on. I would definitely read more of Emma Fischel s books. Susanna Wagstaff, age 12 Cauldrons, wands and frogs. That s witches all over, right? Not any more. Flo tells the story of a modern day witch, until her Grandmother explains that seemingly extinct ghouls are back. Are they? Cauldrons, wands and frogs. That s witches all over, right? Casting spells with long, confusing words and stirring oddly named potions. Not any more. Didn t you know all the witches have upgraded to Potions2go, spellsticks and skychatters? There s no more flying on broomsticks, it s all about ordering a skycab or a skyrider and taking a journey through Skyway 101. Florence Skritchett (Flo) tells the story of a modern day witch, until her Grandmother explains that seemingly extinct ghouls are back. Ghouls, really? They re so last season. Everyone knows they re extinct. But are they? Flo knows that she shouldn t believe her Grandmother s silly stories, but she starts to worry. Her Grandmother demands she help, and suddenly, Flo is making doppel potion and wishing she never got into such a silly, make-believe mess. Then the memories kick in, and Flo remembers and understands her past for the very first time.

Isaac East, age 8 This is a very good book with lots of magic and weird creatures in it. It is a story about a girl who has a very naughty grandma who breaks lots of laws. I enjoyed reading this story and I wanted to keep reading it without putting it down it was so good. I thought it might be like the Worst Witch series when I first started reading it but I was wrong and it was very different. If you like books about magic, fantasy and made up creatures you will like this book. I would recommend it to girls and boys. Evie Young, age 9 A funny story about witches with lots of magical creatures in. Great for anyone over 7. Modern witches don't use wands anymore but Flo's nan does, she also still believes in ghouls even though no one else does and it's a good thing she does or the witches would all be in big trouble! The ghouls are pretty scary but luckily they are scared of Nibbets. There are lots of other magical creatures in this book and I loved reading about them all, it reminded me of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' which I also love. Grandma was really funny and gets into all sorts of trouble Rohan Delamere, age 8 This is a good book about a girl called Florence who has to find out about her special gift and save Witchworld with her older SISTER!!!!! Witchworld is in danger from a ghoul attack in this exciting, funny and slightly crazy adventure book. I would recommend this book for ages 7 to 9 Benedict McCormack, age 8

Jump into a new world. Witchworld is where you want to be for a fabulous adventure. It's an exciting, funny book with brilliant illustrations. It's really clever. The author has changed real things into witch items. I especially like the characters of Granny and the Forest Pixie. Granny because she is the only one who believes in ghosts and ghouls and Forest Pixie because he's make believe. Daniel Harrison, age 7 This is a book about ghouls and I liked it because the characters were really funny. You should read this! Witchworld is a really good book. I liked Grandma because she is a bad broom driver and I liked the Buzz fish because they buzz around. This is a book about ghouls and I liked it because the characters were really funny. The funniest thing about one of them was Hetty's nose because it wasn't witchy enough. The best bit of the book was when they went to the prom for a really big party. You should read this! Danielle Wild, age 12 Witchworld is a great book if you enjoy reading books with lots of adventurous things going on. At times it can be quite funny especially Grandma and the things she does. This book is suitable for older girls as the story can be rather difficult to follow sometimes. I like reading this book because of the different scenes and things that take place. I would highly recommend it to adults or older children that like reading a different variety of books. Finally I would rare this 4/5. Hannah Baer, age 10 Witchworld is about a girl called Florence whose Grandmother is always doing ridiculous things like stealing Forest Pixies hair. The story is set in a magical world with lots of strange creatures including the Ghouls. I liked this book because it had a lot of mystery and action. Florence is brave and clever, fighting the Ghouls to save Witchworld. The author used a lot of detail in her writing and I felt I understood the character's emotions and feelings well. I would recommend the book to girls who like adventure stories (aged 9+).

Alexia Braimo, age 8 I enjoyed very much reading Witchworld by Emma Fischel. The illustrations by Chris Riddell were very good because it help me to visualised the characters better. The story is very funny and its like a dramatical tale and also very modern as the witches in the book are witches of today. For example, Flo is my favourite character and she has skyriders, doesn't use a broomstick anymore and has a modern spellstick with a password and they recognised your voice. Flo is the number one fan of Forest Pixies, she is a Frixie, Friend of the Forest Pixies. She helps keep the Forest Pixies safe because they are only 94 left. I will definitely recommend my friends to read this book!" Bella Perez, age 9 A lively story about a modern witchgirl. Flo s grandma believes that Ghouls will attack at any minute. Soon after grandma arrives Ghouls rise up from the ground. Will Flo stop them before it s to late? My fave person is Hettie because she is over excitable. My fave part was when Flo sees her dad in the Ghoul war. I loved it so much I couldn t choose a fave chapter. The thing that I would change is the number of parts because there are too many parts to it! Lucy Keaveny, age 8 A great book with an exciting story. Flo has a funny life once her grandma moves in with her. Grandma had been thinking that ghouls were coming for the witches in Witchworld. Poor grandma, but no one believes grandma. Later on in the book Flo thinks that grandma might be telling the truth. Flo loves forest pixies. She has a collection of stuff with forest pixies such as: backpack, a pencil case and lots of other stuff. She has a sister called Hetty. Hetty hates that she has no boyfriend she thinks boys don't like her because her nose was to short. Witchworld is a really good book it is very interesting. It is a bit scary at times. But have a go at reading it, you will enjoy it! Stephanie Chaplin, age 9 The book is about a girl whose grandmother is going on and on about ghouls.

The girl s mum does not believe grandma. But one day something tragic happens and they need to speed up things. They need to believe grandma. The main characters are Flo, Hetty, Mum and grandma. My favourite character is Flo because she is adventuress and nice. Sometimes if she does not like things she can get a little stressful. My favourite part is when Flo and grandma flew on the broomstick which is against the law. I enjoyed this book because it made me smile and I went off into my own little world of witches when I read it. I would recommend this book to a friend that is able to read difficult words and that likes adventures. I think this book is suitable for the age 9+ because it says a lot about love and may not be suitable for the age under 9. And the pictures might frighten younger children. Beth Moffat, age 10 This book was not for me or rather should I say I wouldn t have picked it for myself. It is about an old nutty grandmother who thinks that there is a ghoul attack coming but nobody believes her until just before the attack takes place. I think Grandma was a very good character and my favourite along with Hetty, her granddaughter. The book was well written and the ending was very good. I think I am slightly old for this book and it would be suitable for ages 6-8 but not me a 10 year old! If you like fantasy books or imaginary books this book could also be for you. You would definitely like it and enjoy reading it. Emily Kinder, age 13 Witchworld is a story about witches obviously, but not the classic kind. These are modern, up-to-date witches, with their new technology, and up-to-date magic. When Flo is on her own dealing with a ghoul attack their peaceful existence is threatened. Their whole world is beautifully crafted, and I love how everything has been thought about it seems completely real. The main character is Flo who is fun, and interesting and attractive as a character. She is different from the others, and she doesn t care what anyone else thinks of her; nor does she care about the sort of things that the other girls

obsess over, like boys and stuff. What she does care passionately about is the forest pixies and the endangered species, and she is prepared to fight for them. When the ghouls attack, the suspense builds, and you just have to keep reading. This is just one of the exciting episodes in this fun, fantasy book that is suitable for confident readers aged eight or nine. Libby Bridgeman, age 7 A lovely start to a new series set in the wonderfully realised Witchworld, which centres on the three generations of a witching clan introducing main character Flo Skritchett. The three generations of Skritchett family live in the Witchworld where Flo, a keen young witch is caught between her tradition loving gran (considered barmy, uses a cauldron and broom) and her mother and sister (spellsticks and Skyriders). She has to decide whether her gran is bonkers or if the world they know is about to be destroyed by a threat considered to be extinct...
