(Anisoptera: Odonata) 2009 (1) (31) _ Tishreen University Journal for Research and Scientific Studies - Biological Sciences Series Vol. (31) No. (1) 2009 A Taxonomic Study of the Species Belonging to Aeschnidae and Gomphidae Families (Anisoptera: Odonata) on the Syrian Coast «II» (Received 1 / 9 / Accepted 12/1/2009) Dr. A. M. Ramadan * Dr. S. E. Ihsan** M. S. Shiha*** ABSTRACT A hundred and three specimens from insects associated with Aeschnidae and Gomphidae families were collected from 11 sites on the Syrian coast during Morphological and taxonomical aspects of collected specimens have been studied. Identification keys of genera, and species were obtained according to the most important taxonomic features. Eleven species belonging to eight genera are recorded and classified, and these are; Gomphus davidi, Onychogomohus macrodon, Onychogomohus lefebvrei, Paragomphus sinaiticus, Anax imperator, Anax parthenope, Anax immaculifrons, Hemianax ephippiger, Anaciaeschna isosceles, Aeshna mixta and Caliaeschna microstigma. The following species Onychogomohus macrodon, Paragomphus sinaiticus, Anax parthenope, Anax immaculifrons, Anaciaeschna isosceles, Aeshna mixta are recorded for the first time in Syria. Keywords: Insecta, Taxonomy, Odonata, Costal region, Syria * Professor, Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tishreen University, Lattakia, Syria **Assistant professor, Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tishreen University, Lattakia, Syria ***Postgraduate Student, Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tishreen University, Lattakia, Syria. 148
