1 No pp Microfossil Analysis and Paleoenvironmental Changes of Kazusa and Shimousa Groups from Cores in the Port of Tokyo, Central Japan Katsuhisa SEKIMOTO, Masanobu YOSHIKAWA, Kei ANMA, Keisuke SHIMIZU and Kunihiko ENDO Received October 31, 2008 Using the longer cores from the Port of Tokyo, biostratigraphy of the Kazusa Group and Shimousa Group were investigated. Mainly pollen and foraminiferal analyses from 400 meters long core, suggest environmental changes in the Tokyo Bay area probably during the last 1.3 to 1.4 Ma. Especially pollen assemblage shows important changing trends in the Kazusa Group, which is characterized by cold to cool elements and sometimes accompanying cool to warm elements. Foraminifer assemblages indicate also changing trend of colder and warmer phases. Such changing trends suggest the analysed horizons of the Kazusa Group may cover the upper Kiwada, Otadai, Umegase and Kokumoto formations in ascending order. On the other hand, the Shimousa Groups, composed of the Edogawa and Tokyo formations, are characterized by cool to warm elements.
