PREVIOUS APPOINTMENTS 7/1999 1/2002 : Research Fellow Centre for Regional Economic Analysis (CREA) University of Tasmania, Hobart. primary tasks: to undertake the construction and application of multi-region general equilibrium models; and to carry out commissioned research studies for business and state governments focussing on, but not limited to, economic policy issues affecting Tasmania. The main research projects undertaken were to develop regional models to assess the contribution of tourism to the economies of Tasmania and New South Wales (part time) Research Assistant, Department of Economics, Research School for Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University duties I assisted Prof. Peter G. Warr in the development of and simulation analyses with two very large scale computable general equilibrium models for Thailand and the Philippines. I also helped prepare the database and GEMPACK implementation for a CGE model of Indonesia. An important aspect of my work on the Thailand model was to incorporate various measures for analysing the incidence of poverty, based on parameters derived from household expenditure survey data, into the CGE modelling framework & 1997 Tutor, Department of Forestry, ANU I conducted tutorial classes in a course on natural resource economics for second year Forestry students various positions Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) Kathmandu, Nepal IIDS is a privately organized non-profit institute for research on national development issues and economic policies in Nepal. IIDS undertakes commissioned research projects and studies in a wide range of subjects for His Majesty's Government of Nepal, the many donor organizations active in Nepal and for numerous other international organizations and consulting groups. Positions held May Feb : Senior Research Associate July May 1989 : Research Director : Research Associate (Economist) : Consultant Description of Duties at IIDS: As a Senior Research Associate I was responsible for planning and executing 2

3 research projects in which I was the Principal Investigator. My work was mainly in the areas of agriculture economics, trade and development policy, poverty analyses and population studies; but I also led a wide variety of other research projects. Two important projects I was involved in were developing the first computable general equilibrium type of planning model for Nepal (in collaboration with a team from the Free University in Amsterdam); and a collaborative study, funded by the Ford Foundation, on Regional Cooperation on Water Resources Development in Nepal, India and Bangladesh. As Research Director at IDS I also had more general responsibilities for planning, co-ordinating and maintaining quality control of the overall research program of IIDS. I supervised and monitored projects that fell in my area of expertise but which I do not lead as Principal Investigator, and reviewed work in progress from both a technical as well as managerial perspective.
