3 Mining Lands Unit Provide information and clarification on all aspects of mineral rights including acquiring and maintaining mineral title Administer legislation and maintain mineral title Develop and update policy in relation to mineral legislation Point of contact for exploration permitting Provide guidance on work program and mitigation YG lead on mineral projects in Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA) Liaise internally and with other governments on issues related to claim administration and work programs and mitigations Assess and issue Mining Land Use approvals Administration of Quartz Mine Licenses including determination of security and issuance of licenses Mining Recorders Provide information and clarification on all aspects of mineral rights including acquiring and maintaining mineral title Administer legislation and maintains mineral title Develop and update policy in relation to mineral legislation Resolve conflicts, disputes that may arise from and between clients in relation to mineral title Conduct quasi judicial hearings Provide maps, guides and other publications Before an individual stakes a piece of ground, they are encouraged to visit the district office to familiarize themselves with the current legislation and regulations, to determine if the ground is available for staking and speak to the staff at the mining recorder s office. 4 Point of contact for exploration permitting Monitor all exploration projects with active mining land use authorizations Review of reports from clients, consultants, inspections and enforcement reports from Client Services and Inspections Provide guidance to clients on work program and mitigations Site visits to exploration programs Yukon Government lead for mineral projects being assessed through the Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Act (YESAA) including provision of technical comments and drafting of decision documents When you are planning your exploration activity, it is recommended that you contact a mining lands officer who will provide advice on what the legislative and regulatory requirements are and whether the activity will require an assessment under YESAA. 6 Mineral Planning and Development Unit Promotion of Yukon mineral potential at territorial, national and international trade shows and conferences Monitor, develop and coordinate mineral policy/procedures and provide strategic direction on policy direction for Yukon Support major mine development through provision and oversight of the Project Coordinator program Liaise with and support Yukon Mineral Advisory Board, Yukon Chamber of Mines, Klondike Placer Mining Association, Yukon Mine Training Association and other mineral associations Liaise with active Yukon mining companies on mineral matters and facilitate resolution of issues working with the Mining Lands unit and other Yukon government departments Coordinate and plan tours to inform and promote active exploration and development projects Coordinate communication initiatives and products for the Minerals branch including public, government and industry needs Provide support to the Mineral Resources Branch through the maintenance of database, GIS and mapping and other information sources including web pages Provide First Nation liaison support through the activities of the First Nation Liaison Officer
