2 POWDERS Powders are used to produce many of products. The first part is focused on the following questions: 1. What aspects of powder behavior are interesting from an industrial perspective? For various industries. 2. Why do powders flow, or stop flowing? What is their flowability? 3. What parameters affect how powders behave in a process, during transport or as a product? Measuring of mechanical-physical properties

3 FT4 POWDER RHEOMETER SYSTEM This universal powder tester combines the Freeman patented technology for measuring of flow energy with a range of shear cells, wall friction modules and other accessories for measuring of bulk properties. The methodology allows measurement of: Flow energy in relation to many variables and all packing states. Shear properties of consolidated and unconsolidated powders. Bulk properties precision bulk density, compressibility and permeability. Process variables such as moisture, attrition and segregation. Powder rheometer FT4 Flowability, angle of internal friction

4 PARTICLE SIZE ANALYZER CILAS The particle-size-analyzer sets with its integrated wet and dry dispersion modes, CCD camera and short optical path make it the most versatile instrument available anywhere. The unique design of the Cilas 1190 provides a measurement range from 0.04 to 2,500 µm while maintaining an extremely small footprint. MEASUREMENTS RESULTS Particle size analyzer Cilas 1190 The particles are measured by capturing the diffraction pattern and applying Fraunhofer or Mie theory. 5 ROTATIONAL RHEOMETER KINEXUS A rheometer is a laboratory device used to measure the way in which a liquid, suspension or slurry flows in response to applied forces. Kinexus enables to precisely analyze the rheology, or flow and deformation properties of materials: From liquids to solids. From processability to product performance. From temperature to time dependence. From simple viscosity to complex viscoelastic parameters. User interaface Rotational rheometer Kinexus Shear cell Dependence of viscosity on temperature

6 HIGH SPEED CAMERA LAVISION The camera is equipped with PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. It is a non-destructive laser optical measurement technique for research and diagnostics into flow, turbulence, microfluidics, spray atomization and combustion processes. MEASUREMENTS RESULTS Flow of the powder mixture Whole velocity fields. Distance individual particles travelled within time. Set of images. Visualizations of particle motion. Video sequences. 7 DEM SIMULATIONS The Discrete Element Method is used for simulation of transportation, procedural and storage processes in the field of renewable resources, metallurgical industries, energy, pharmaceutical industries etc. Outputs: Models of particles movement, dynamic properties with regard to the transport system response. Optimization models of particles shapes and Discharge of bulk materials surfaces and equipment. Modeling of friction, friction control bulk materials transfer in limited space with shape optimization. Simulation of particles movement in the redler conveyor

Simulation was used for functionality test of device with regards to materials transportation Filing and discharging process.

12 The third example of application: DEM SIMULATIONS DEM application detects changes in velocity vectors and particle movement using two different geometry carriers. Effect of carrier shape. 16 ANOTHER RESEARCH - Mechanical material properties effect on pelletization The relation between the mechanical physical properties of raw input materials and pelletization process. The QbD methodology was used for this purpose. - Characterization of metal powders Spruce sawdust Crushed compost Metal powder were characterized with size, shape and distribution of particles, flowabillity, aeration and compression. For surface topography of samples (Cu, Al, Fe) EDF Z profile was used. Microscopic photos and 3D surface plot images of Cu sample
