2 NANOLEAP PROJECT NANOLEAP project brings together a European Network of pilot production facilities focused on scaling up nanocomposite processing methods to enable the leap from laboratory-scale developments to industrial production. This Network of pilot plants, properly equipped and skilled to incorporate nanoparticles or nanoadditives in the process, will effectively support the research activities of the industrial stakeholders across the European Construction value chain, specially manufacturing SMEs, which are not able to assume the technological risk and associated investments for developing new technologies. The goal of this infrastructure is enable the progress of the product to next steps of technology deployment such as installation of industrial lines and enter in the commercialization stage. i2l NSC meeting /11/2016 PAGE 2

13 PERSPECTIVES Risk assessment due to nanopowders handling and processing To road-map the nanosafety issues related to the production of nanocomposite based products ahead of any realized risk to society The potential exposure of workers to nanoparticles will be assessed through field measurement campaigns After the implementation of control measurements by the pilot plant companies, risk assessment will be updated Implementation and effectiveness of safe-by-design approaches Nanomaterial exposure control through the implementation of safe-by design approaches Guidelines and risk minimization procedures for nanopowders, handling and processing Guidelines for production, use and handling of nanopowders and nanocomposites as well as risk minimization procedures will be prepared and distributed Specific training and organizational procedures will be implemented on each pilot plan facilities that will help to understand main nanosafety issues i2l NSC meeting /11/2016 PAGE 13
