4 INTRODUCTION This invstigation was mad for th prpos of obtaining information on th sbsrfac soils on which to bas pavmnt dsign rcommndations. for th proposd Inbond Lan to Salt Lak Bolvard. Th spcific limits of th projct ar shown on; th Plot Plan, Plat 2 attachd to this rport. SCOPE OF WORK Th invstigation was discssd with Mr. Kn Nagai of Wilson, Okamoto & Associats, otlind in a Proposal datd Jly 3, 1973, and accptd by Prchas Ordr Nmbr 72442~ Th invstigation consistd of xcavating svn tst pits to dtrmin th sb grad soil conditions. ' Soil sampls wr takn from ths xcavations and takn to th laboratory for tsting. From ths tsts, rcommndations for th pavmnt dsign along th proposd road alignmnt wr mad. PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT It is prsntly proposd to constrct an inbond lan from Kamhamha Highway which will provid accss to th soth parking lot of Oah Stadim and to Salt Lak Bolvard, Th proposd roadway will xtnd from Station 1+ at Kamhamha Highway to Station at th proposd Salt Lak Bolvard Widning Projct. A north accss ramp, incldd in this projct, will start at Station and will branch. off from th inbond lan at Station and will contin in th maka dirction to Station , which is th qivalnt of Station of Salt Lak Bolvard.
5 2 Th profil of th road will rqir cts as dp as ft and fills of p to thr ft from xisting grond. SITE CONDITIONS Srfac From Station 1 + :JO to Statj,on th proposd roadway will b~. alignd throgh a vacant lot adjacnt to th Maka1apa Manor Hosing Dvlop mnt, and from Station to th nd of th projct, th roadway will b alignd along th xisting inbond lan to Salt Lak Bolvard. A long th th DiamondHad sid of th xisting inbond lan, thr is a slop which to drops a maximm of 32 ft at an approximat inclination of 1. 5 horizontal I 1 vrtical. A long th Ewa sid of th xisting inbond lan thr ts a vacant lot covrd with brsh, wds and rbbish. Sbsrfac Sbsrfac soil conditions nar th bginning of th projct as dis.closd by Tst Pit No. s 1 and 2, consist of clayy sand at th sbgrad lvation. Volcanic tff was ncontrd in Tst Pit No, s 3 throgh 6 at a dpth of from 2. 9 to 5, ft blow xisting grond srfac. D to th hardnss of this matrial~ pntration to th sbgrad lvation cold not b accomp~ lishd with a backho. Howvr, it is ra:sonably blivd that th tff xtnds to and blow th proposd sbgrad lvation. In th ara of Tst Pit No. 7, a silty sand was fond at sb grad lvation. No grond watr was ncontrd in any of th tst pits..
6 3 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDAT1IONS Th rcommndd pavmnt dsign for th proposd sbgrad is :basd on th Asphalt Institt Thicknss Dsign Manal, Sris No. 1 (MS 1), datd A g~st, 197.
