Through a self - assem bling p rocess, carbon nanotube ( CNT) composite thin film s were p repared on hydroxylated glass substrates from a specially formulated solution. A tom ic force m icroscope (AFM ), scanning electron m icroscope ( SEM ) and X - ray photoelectron spectrom etry ( XPS) were used to characterize the thin film s. The tribological p roperties of the film s sliding against SAE52100 steel ball were evaluated on a UMT - 2MT recip rocating friction and wear tester. The results showed that due to the chem isorp tion ability of - SO3H group, CNT composite film s were successfully deposited on oxidized M PTS - SAM. The tribological tests showed that the friction coefficient was m arkedly reduced from ( bare glass substrate) to after the formation of CNT - SAM on its surface, which indicated its p rom ising app lications in m icroelectrom echanical system (M EM S).
