3 We will continue to learn about nomenclature. I will review for and take a quiz and take notes about nomenclature. Success Criteria - Be able to determine which naming rules apply to a compound. Use the naming rules to convert between formula and name for a compound.

5 Housekeeping I will pass back the VSEPR quiz on Wednesday with the Nomenclature quiz. Any corrections need to be done before the test next Friday. Remember that you can only do corrections if your score is below 70. Corrections will not raise your quiz score, but if you do corrections and then get a higher grade on the quiz, your quiz grade will be raised to match your test grade (maximum of 70). All work from this unit must be turned in within one week after the test over this unit or I will not take them.

7 Information about the quiz There are 12 questions. The 6 questions that go from formula to name are multiple choice. The 6 questions that go from name to formula are short answer. You can t enter subscripts in your phone, so if you are entering the formula for Tellurium Trioxide, then you would enter TeO3, since you can t enter subscripts to show TeO3.

8 Ionic or Covalent? Be sure to determine first whether the compound is ionic or covalent. Remember that ionic does NOT use prefixes. You will have a list of prefixes for the quiz.

9 Kahoot review Review with Kahoot. This review is worth 5 bonus points on the quiz for the top five teams. Your team name must have the names of everybody on your team. I cannot see the individual names below the team name. If you do not have a phone, then join up with someone who does. No more than two people per team. You ONLY get the bonus points if you follow the rules and use your names. Anything else will mean that you do not receive your bonus points.

10 Open Kahoot Remember to use your actual names. I will not give bonus points to made-up team names. You have to use your actual names.

11 Before starting the quiz You should have charges marked on your periodic table. Make sure that metals and nonmetals are marked. If the compound contains a metal, then it is ionic.

12 Time for the quiz! Clear off the table. You need your periodic table with charges marked. I will put up the prefixes on the next slide. You should be able to complete the quiz in minutes.

14 Make a pocket on the next available page in your notebook. This pocket will be just like the one for your periodic table. We will use this pocket for the foldable. Make sure that you have your foldable ready to finish notes.

16 Potassium chromate magnesium nitrate 1. Write symbol for cation with charge and symbol for anion with charge. 2. Make the magnitude of the charge on each ion into the subscript of the other ion. If the polyatomic ion needs a subscript, then ion must be written in parentheses. 3. Reduce to simplest terms.
