1 Number 1 Physiology of plant resources Satoru Kondo, Hitoshi Ohara, Katsuya Okawa ation Environmental stresses such as drought and chilling temperature induce free radicals in fruit trees. In contrast, physiological active substances, abscisic acid (ABA), Polyamines, and jasmonic acid (JA) have a role as prospective substances against these stresses. In this subject, the relationship between physiology of fruit trees and metabolism of these substances are explained. For example, ABA was involved in the oxidative cleavage of carotenoids such as neoxanthin and violaxanthin to yield a C15 immediate precursor of ABA, xanthoxin. JA stimulated callus formation and promoted anthocyanin accumulation in fruit. In addition, fruits contain high concentrations of antioxidants such as polyphenolics, carotenoids and vitamins. 1-5 Environmental stresses and free radicals in fruit trees 6-10 Roles of plant hormones against environmental stresses Plant hormones and antioxidant Handouts / Power Point A report to be submitted for evaluation Number 2 Plant Genome Science Takato Koba, Hidenori Sassa We will study structure, function and evolution of plant genomes at molecular and chromosomal levels. Also application of genomic information to plant breeding and plant biotechnology will be discussed. The purposes of the lecture are to understand the latest results of plant genome sciences and obtaining the ability to apply knowledge on genome sciences to practical plant breeding. 1-2 Concept of the genome and genome analysis 3-5 Application of molecular markers to plant breeding (3) 6-7 Genome structure and function 8-9 Comparative genomics Genetic engineering Molecular cytogenetics 14 Plant germplasm collection 15 Molecular phylogeny (1) All of the lectures will be held by using PowerPoin / Materials in the lectures will be handed ove Quality of presentation and reports will be evaluate

2 Number 3 Plant Cellular Breeding Masahiro Mii, Ikuo Nakamura Recent advances in the field of plant biotechnology and molecular genetics are provided with some outstanding topics on the application of the biotechnological and molecular techniques for the breeding of various plants including food, fiber, timber and ornamental crops as well as other useful and important plants as biomass, energy and environmental controls. The main objective of the lecture is to give the general ideas on the significance and importance of plant breeding by utilizing plant biotechnology and molecular genetics. 1 Cellular breeding and plant biotechnology 2-3 Application of tissue culture for plant breeding 4 Haploid breeding 5-6 Remote hybridization with embryo rescue and in vitro fertilization 7 Protoplast technology and somatic hybridization 8 Germplasm preservation and cryopreservation 9-10 Molecular breeding through genetic transformation Plant molecular genetics Molecular phylogeny y All of the lectures will be held by using PowerPoin / Materials in the lectures will be handed over Quality of presentation and reports will be evaluate Number 4 Advanced theory of plant pathosystem Yoshimiki Amemiya, Masahiro Shisido, Toshiyuki Usami Studies of host-parasite interactions through microbial infection, disease development and role of microbial environment in various pathosystem 1-3 Ecology of plant pathogens 4-6 Mechanisms of host recognition, infection and disease development 7-9 Plant defense mechanisms Role of rhizosphere microorganisms in pathosystems Plant disease control systems using beneficial microorganisms Journal articles Contents and format of the article (e.g,, Introduction, Development, Conclusions and References, etc.)
