This year is quite a different story and there is an explosion color! Lovely! This month, we have a Solar Eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius. Those of you directly impacted may be feeling this energy already. So, I wanted to share some thoughts about this important astrological transit. Also, Sappho has written an article about the process of transformation and what transformation really asks of us when we are confronted with the powerful transits of Pluto and Uranus. Check out the article if you wish. We also have some photos to share from an event that occurs here three times a year here in Munich. 2 Page 2 Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius An Eagle's View of the Future November 25, 2011 What do eagles and lightning bolts have in common? They are both 'creatures' of the sky and they are the symbols of mighty Jupiter. Since Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, with the upcoming Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on November 25, 2011, these two symbols will reign down from the heavens to energize our lives. In this article, we will explore: the November Solar Eclipse in terms of the inspiring themes of Sagittarius and Jupiter, the important insights of the eclipse's Sabian Symbol, and the steps you can take to make the most of this benefic energizer of your future. Importantly, because we often begin to feel the energy of a solar eclipse in the month prior to the actual eclipse, now is the time to begin considering the eclipse and being particularly aware of the circumstances in our lives.

3 Page 3 Who Will Be Impacted? The solar eclipse on November 25, 2011 will take place at 2 degrees and 27 minutes of Sagittarius. There are many ways for a solar eclipse to impact your birth chart, but here are a few prominent examples: For all of us, 2 degrees and 27 minutes of Sagittarius in located in a particular house of our birth chart. The house containing the degree and sign of this solar eclipse will represent the particular themes that will be energized by this eclipse. For anyone with a planet conjunct or opposed to this solar eclipse, you have the potential to be strongly impacted. So, for anyone with planets or an angle of the birth chart (ascendant, etc.) between 28 degrees of Scorpio and 5 degrees of Sagittarius, this planet(s) or angle will be conjunct the solar eclipse. Likewise, for anyone with a planet or angle between 28 degrees of Taurus and 5 degrees of Gemini, this will be oppose the solar eclipse. 4 Page 4 While all solar eclipses energize the path to our future, this solar eclipse at 2 degrees and 27 minutes of Sagittarius has a particular emphasis on the future. Of all the signs and planets, Sagittarius and Jupiter, are most concerned with energizing our future and pointing out the path toward our future. There are three mythic themes that communicate this theme. First, Jupiter's lightning bolt reminds us that this is a time when inspiration will come to us like a bolt of lightning from the heavens. This inspiration can come to us from a number of sources. It may simply be an idea that appears to us out of the blue and makes a strong impression. Alternatively, it may come to us from a conversation with a friend or from an external event. What is important is to be aware of ideas, events and inspirations that powerfully catch your attention, like a bolt of lightning coming out of the heavens. In nature, following a lightning bolt is the thunder clap, the booming sound that seems to shake the world around us. Thus, while the inspiration of the lightning bolt or vision comes in a singular moment, the thunder moves through our world and reminds us of the power and importance of the vision. A powerful thunder clap shakes us and seems to say, "You will feel my presence". As a sign, Sagittarius is mutable and represents fire, which brings inspiration (from the fire aspect) resulting in change (the mutable aspect) on our path in life. When we watch for the inspiration and its reverberation in our mind and in our life and then take action on the opportunities that arise, we are heeding Jupiter's gift of inspiration. Second, we turn to Jupiter's symbol of the eagle, whose realm is on the currents of air high above the ground where he has a clear vision of the future. Unlike birds that fly nervously near the ground alighting from limb to limb, the eagle's flight is high above the tree tops or other objects that represent the obstructions that limit our perspective of the future. The eagle's position, above the obstructions, tells us that this eclipse allows us to ride on the wings of Jupiter's eagle and see beyond our normal obstructions energizing our vision and allowing us to see further into the future than at other times. The eagle also has particularly sharp vision. Floating on the wind, the eagle's eyes see into the distance with unusual clarity. Thus, this eclipse not only allows us to see further into our future, but also to have greater clarity. For the third symbol, we turn to the arrow, which is both the form of Jupiter's lightning bolts (in paintings, etc.) and also the basis of the astrological symbol of Sagittarius. When we see the full image of Sagittarius, we see the archer kneeling and positioning his bow to shoot his arrow forward and upward -

5 Page 5 into the future! Thus, the gift of inspiration and clarity of vision we experience is meant for us to take the bow into our own hands and shoot the arrow of our intention into the future. This third step is key because, while the eclipse in Sagittarius brings inspiration of a future potential, it is our responsibility to take action to embrace that potential and bring the potential into reality. In fact, when important Sagittarian and Jupiter events do not bring tangible results to our life, we often have missed this all import step of taking action. The potential gift is given, but we must take action to make it real in our life. Minor Asteroid Fortuna and the Wheel of Fortune For this solar eclipse, the minor asteroid Fortuna is placed at 1 Sagittarius 45 and is conjunct the Sun and Moon (conjunct the eclipse). Thus Fortuna, who is the daughter of Jupiter and the goddess of good fortune and of happiness, is fused with the inspiration of this eclipse. Most importantly, Fortuna is connected with changes in fortune. In the role of being the messenger of "fortune", she is often associated with the Tarot card the Wheel of Fortune. Think of experiencing this eclipse by shuffling your deck of Tarot cards and suddenly the Wheel of Fortune card falls onto the table. The message sent by the cards is that change is in the air! Fortuna is telling us that the vision and inspiration for the future is about change. With this eclipse, moving in harmony with the Sun, Moon and stars is about both inspiration and change.

6 Page 6 Sabian Symbol for the Eclipse While all eclipses in the sign of Sagittarius will share the themes noted in the section on Jupiter and Sagittarius above, the Sabian Symbol for the specific degree of the eclipse adds a unique flavor. In this case, the Sabian Symbol both magnifies the original theme and adds its own complimentary theme. The Sabian Symbol for the 3 rd degree of Sagittarius is "Two men playing chess". Since I played chess for a short time on my high school chess team (this was so long ago that I can't believe I even remember it), I relate strongly to this Sabian symbol. Chess is a game that combines a broad strategy or vision with specific tactics and steps to be taken. The first step in a game of chess is to be aware of the circumstances one has in front of them and to

7 Page 7 gain a sense of clarity and perspective. A game of chess provides an interesting analogy to our real life goals and efforts. In chess, one surveys the placement of the pieces on the board, both where our own pieces are placed as well as those of our opponent. In chess we might look at the board and ask ourselves, "How well developed is the structure of my pieces? Is that structure well positioned to respond to my opponents pieces?" As we survey the landscape in real life, we ask ourselves similar questions. "From where I stand today, how well am I prepared to accomplish my goals? What is the state of the skills, credentials, finances, etc. that I will need to succeed in my goals? The awareness provided by surveying our current situation and status provides the required awareness to strategize future moves. Both in a game of chess and in life, awareness, clarity and perspective are key. The second step is to be aware that each move on the chess board can have a long term effect on the outcome of the game. Since our actions in life can have a long term effect on achieving our goals in life, it is helpful to consider each important decision in terms of the degree to which they support our goals. In a game of chess, one does not think about only the next move. Rather, one thinks about the next move and those that will follow. Each move is meant to build on the preceding move and prepare us for success. Both chess and life are concerned with long term outcomes. In life, that means each step we take should build our life and direct our path to achieving success, happiness, fulfillment, etc. Importantly, we want our actions to lead us toward our long term goals. We do not want to waste too many moves by heading in the wrong direction, nor do we want to miss important opportunities. Don't worry, everyone makes mistakes. Everyone takes a wrong turn once in a while or misses an opportunity. Sagittarius and Jupiter never want us to feel guilty. Rather, we are being asked to combine having an awareness of our situation and goals with an awareness the steps needed to make progress toward those goals. In short, the actions we take during and after this eclipse can have a long term effect on the direction of our lives. Sagittarius and Jupiter want us take actions that will help to bring our vision into reality. The third step is that, just like a game of chess, life often presents us with complex situations, where there is no one move that will solve all of our challenges and lead us directly to our goal. Chess is a game of building structures, one move at a time, in the direction that leads to success. The ability to recognize the moment and take the next step is a theme of Gemini and Mercury, which are the opposite and supporting archetypes of Sagittarius and Jupiter. For this eclipse, Mercury is both retrograde and is conjunct the North Node. Planning and creative, effective thinking are strongly supported by this eclipse. Gemini and Mercury have the tactical ability to know that sometimes we must move quickly forward, while other times it is best to move retrograde - that is, to take a step back to put ourselves in the right position for the future. Finally, while this Sabian Symbol wants us to be aware, to consider the long term implications and that we must move on step at a time, we must also be prepared to take action. In tournament chess, there is a clock that allows us only so long to consider our next move. Similarly in life, we need to take action to achieve success. Since Sagittarius is a fire sign, a sign of action, this eclipse represents a time to combine inspiration, awareness and importantly, a time to take action! Hesitation can cause the inspiration to fade and not to materialize in any significant way. Summary - What You Can Do! While the eclipse will impact each of us differently, according to the unique qualities of each individual birth chart, there are a few key themes to making the most of this eclipse. First, watch for experiences that seem to bring a flash of inspiration. This flash can come from a conversation, a book, a day dream, a chance meeting or opportunity. Importantly, sometimes the opportunities come from somewhat negative experiences that give you a new insight for what you want for your life and what you need to do to achieve that goal. The key is not to limit where

8 Page 8 the flash can come from, but to be watching for moments of inspiration. Second, consider how the inspiration fits into your life and the role it may play in moving you toward your long term goals. The combined themes of Sagittarius, Jupiter and Mercury in this eclipse provide the perfect combination for planning. If you would benefit by creating a "blueprint" that represents both your long term goals and the steps needed to get you there, this eclipse will support your planning. Third, take action! Sagittarius is a fire sign that combines vision with action. Don't expect life to drop a pot of gold directly into your lap. This eclipse may highlight the path to your own "good fortune", but it will only come into being if you take action to bring your vision into reality. You can sum it all up with lightning bolts, eagles and arrows: Watch for the moments of inspiration - experience the "lightning" Focus your vision on your future - see the future like Jupiter's eagle Take action to bring the inspiration and vision into reality - short your Sagittarian arrow into the future. Here's her birth chart: Bavarian Adventure - Auer Dult A Quaint Traditional Fair We wanted to share a few photos with you of an event held 3 times each year that we absolutely love! Started first in the 1300's, the Auer Dult, which is essentially a mini-fair, has a long tradition in Munich! This event is a combination antique market, artisan market, gadget market, carnival, food festival and beer garden! It is a traditional, family-oriented event. Since 1905, the Auer Dult has been held in the city of Au on the

Well, the Fall Fair is the first festival of the year to have a Gluhwein stand.

12 Page 12 Bavarian pizza. It is a whole wheat crust with creme fraiche, onions and ham baked in a wood oven! Of course, where can you find us - at the Gluhwein stand! This Fall Fair is the third fair of the year. So, why go AGAIN? Well, the Fall Fair is the first festival of the year to have a Gluhwein stand. Bavarians go nuts for Gluhwein. Gluhwein is a warm, sweet, spicey wine that warms the body on a cold winter day. Also ever present are calliopes - they are all so well maintained and their lively tune can't help but put a little extra pep in your step!

13 Page 13 These classic boat swings are at every tradition festival. They are completely manual and you operate them like a swing. Some of them at Oktoberfest allow the person to do a 360. This is a more mild event and this one does not allow for that. The detail and soft colors of this carnival ride are simply magical!
