In the next days, Venus will turn retrograde. I last wrote about Mars Retrograde and I know that was a difficult time for many and many people greatly impacted by the transit experienced some very low times and bouts of depression. But, for many, the outcomes have been super as important aspects of life were changed to make way for a new approach! We now have the same chance as we rethink Venus and what we value and attract into our lives during this retrograde period. The article is below. In this newsletter, we also want to start a new set of small articles related to key historical figures who helped to change the way we view our world. We will primarily focus on historical figures from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment, but a few others will be thrown in. The persons we will cover developed new ways of seeing, new ways of thinking, new paradigms and who were willing to take on the prevailing dogmas of the time. 2 The Traveler s Well Newsletter May 13, 2012 Venus Retrograde Page 2 Venus Retrograde In Gemini Re-Thinking What and Who We Attract Venus, the goddess of love and attraction, will turn retrograde on May 15, 2012 (at 24 Gemini) and trace her path backward through the sky for 43 days until she turns direct and begins moving forward again on June 27, 2012 (at 7 Gemini). In this article, we will explore: The Myth of Venus The Astrology of Venus and How Venus Creates Attraction The Purpose of Venus Retrograde in Gemini Putting What We Have Learned Into Action After The Retrograde Period Astrological Symbol for the planet Venus. Venus in Myth - Born of The Sea In myth, Venus is born out of the divine ocean, which represents Neptune. To get a visual example of this, you can look at 'The Birth of Venus' by Sandro Botticelli. Thus, there is a direct link between Venus and Neptune that has a number of implications. In exploring Venus, we will also focus on the archetype of Neptune as it relates to our dreams of perfection and the wish for those dreams to work like a magical potion made from the essence of the fairy world. Neptune's instructions for using this magic potion appear to read, 'Just a sprinkle of this fairy potion and your life will be miraculously transformed'. To take this one step further, Venus is also born of Uranus (I will spare you the story) and brought to humanity, or brought ashore, on the waves of Neptune's divine ocean. Suffice to say that, in all matters associated with Venus, we must understand what makes us unique (the Uranus part), we must not suppress our uniqueness and we must bring this uniqueness forward into the external world for us to have success in working with Venus. While there is always more to explore about myth associated with Venus, these are the points of focus for this article. Venus in Astrology - How Venus Creates Attraction Venus wants each of us to love ourselves for who we are. Venus rules two astrological signs: Taurus (the second house of the natural zodiac), and Libra (the seventh house of the natural zodiac). Taurus represents the inner expression of Venus and Libra represents the external expression of Venus. Together, Venus connects the way we feel about ourselves inside with how that energy is projected out into the external world.

3 The Traveler s Well Newsletter May 13, 2012 Venus Retrograde Page 3 Taurus Libra Through Taurus and the inner expression of Venus, we identify our inner meaning of what we value in life that sustains us. Since Taurus (the bull put a photo in) is a fixed earth sign, this internal side of Venus is concerned with being grounded in the things that give us a sense of stability, security and comfort. Taurus the bull is quite content to simply enjoy the fruits and comforts of his labors, but also to develop the skills required in life so that he can sustain this comfort. In helping us to define our own values and inner meaning, Taurus helps us to gain the strength and capacity to be self-sufficient and establish our self-worth so that we can be grounded in knowing what our real needs are. In a real sense, this is the first step to achieve what Venus wants for us - to love ourselves for who we are. When we understand and respect our uniqueness (again the Uranus part of the Venus myth), and we are instructed by that which makes us unique as we form our inner meaning, we are able to be more self-confident and determined. In this sense, we are more certain about what we value and we know why we value it (because we understand and appreciate our own uniqueness)! When Neptune interferes with Taurus, which is easier for someone who does not respect the boundaries of their own uniqueness, Neptune's magic potion is both very desirable and sometimes very deceptive. It can lead us to abandon the grounded aspect of Taurus and to reach for the clouds beyond what our inner needs truly are at a core level and make us think we can have it all. When we lose track of our real needs, we can be lead to desire material wealth that is well beyond our true needs. For example, we think we need to earn a million dollars or that we need to live in a Beverly Hills mansion, etc. in order to be happy. The astrological symbol of Venus resembles a hand-held mirror. When we look at ourselves with her mirror, we are able to see ourselves more clearly and define our values and inner meaning. This mirror also allows us to project our inner vibration outward and leads us to Libra. Through Libra and the external expression of Venus, we attract the people and circumstances that reflect our values and inner meaning. The astrological symbol of Libra is the scales and Libra desires the scales to be in balance just as Taurus desires to sustain us. When we bring what we know of our inner meaning forward into Libra, we form a strong foundation for our relationships and we have balance. When Neptune interferes with Libra (via Taurus), his magic potion carries forward our out of balance Taurus sense of security and comfort into relationships. Hence, we bring a false foundation into our relationships and we search for that which is beyond what our innermost genuine needs are. We search for relationships that are 'perfect' and we project that we need our partner to be fabulously wealthy with the ideal home and of course they must be gorgeous. Again the strength of Uranus and our commitment to what makes us unique can help to mitigate this interference on our relationships.

4 The Traveler s Well Newsletter May 13, 2012 Venus Retrograde Page 4 A further consideration of Neptune highlights one of the key points of difference between Venus and Neptune. While Neptune lives in the land of our dreams, Venus lives in the land of the real world: Through Taurus, Venus wants us to find stability regarding our material needs and the joy and satisfaction that comes with real life results. Through Libra, Venus wants us to find real harmony with another wonderful soul and to maintain a sense of balance that promotes a sense of contentment and joy. While Neptune is content to be drawn into a magical story of love at the theatre, Venus wants you to experience real love with a real partner in your real life. While Neptune is like a movie that hints at the "endless pot of gold at the end of the rainbow", Venus wants you to develop the skills required to acquire the resources you need. While Neptune temps you to believe that you can "have it all", Venus wants you to know what will truly make you happy and have a life of joy and contentment. This is how Venus creates attraction for us by helping us to define our true needs (Taurus) and then to relate to others who share and support those values (Libra). Venus Retrograde - Re-Thinking What We Want and What We Attract So, what is the purpose and intention of Venus Retrograde? Like all retrograde periods, the "re" words become more important now (reconsider, rethink, rescale, etc.). Since Venus will be in Gemini, which relates to our thinking capacities and our ability to gather and communicate information, this is a time when we are meant to "re-consider" the way we think about what we really want for our lives. You could say that Venus Retrograde in Gemini wants us to "re-think" what we want and what we want to attract. To reconsider means to consider again and not remain fixed, which is perfect since Gemini is a mutable energy, unlike the fixed energy of Taurus. When transiting Venus is retrograde, we have even more freedom to make re-considerations than at other times. The Gemini quality of mutability and the nature of times when planets turn retrograde both enjoy the process of reconsideration and of making new discoveries and making new choices. This is a time that wants us to be open to adjusting to our real world circumstances so that we can become more effective. Gemini wants us to get real things done so that we can make clearer sense of the world in which we live. So, here are some steps to consider: Perhaps, the first step is to allow ourselves to be curious about the relationship between us and the world we live in. Why curiosity? Curiosity plays a key role in considering old topics from new perspectives. If we keep doing the same things in the same way, we generally get the same results. If your relationships or your ability to attract resources needs a tune up, be curious about other possibilities during this time. Venus will look favorably on your thoughts. A great second step is to ask yourself a question, "What does that mean to me?" Venus does not care what love, abundance, right work, harmony in your life mean to everyone else or what society promotes, she wants to know what it means to you, deep down inside. For example, if you have been wondering, "Where is my abundance?" consider re-thinking what abundance means to you. Does it mean the size of your paycheck or bank account or does it mean having the financial resources to live a joyful life? Consider rescaling the notion of abundance if it is not serving your real needs.

5 The Traveler s Well Newsletter May 13, 2012 Venus Retrograde Page 5 During this Venus Retrograde period, any messages you receive that indicate there is need to re-adjust any aspect related to Venus (no matter how big or how small), please do not cast that message aside. What is a message? Often is something that is slightly negative or something that triggers a response in you related to something deeper. So any messages related to finances (those Taurus resources), to relationships and friendships (Libra), to our comfort or ability to sustain ourselves (Taurus), etc. should be heeded during this time. For example: Let's say you overdraft your checking account. Maybe you need to reconsider the amount of time you dedicate to your bookkeeping so that your resources can sustain you and not cause crisis. If the credit card bill exceeds your budget, you might want to review each purchase to determine if it aligns with your goals and re-adjust if necessary. For example, "Did I really need to buy that lamp?" If you have no budget for your credit card bill, maybe you should reconsider that. If a normally solid friendship tweaks you a bit, maybe you need to reconsider how well you have communicated and shared your uniqueness and values with your friends. If you get pulled to help others more than usual, reconsider how your balance your time and if you take into account your own needs for comfort. If someone lets you down, re-consider if you have become too dependent and not confident of your own skills and resources. As we open ourselves up to the messages, we begin to hear more and more messages and as we experience good outcomes with the adjustments we make, life becomes more rewarding and fulfilling. During this Venus Retrograde period, if the messages you receive are all positive, then keep up the great work or reconsider deepening your commitment. Venus In Action - Bringing What We Attract into Reality While we are meant to reconsider and rethink during Venus Retrograde, after the retrograde period we need to begin the process of realignment to anything that has changed and bring this new meaning forward. If you have "re-thought" what you want to attract, those thoughts must be put into action. It might be good to keep a journal of those things that you have decided to readjust and why. The Taurus side of Venus relates to our capacity to make persistent efforts in our daily life to attract (Libra) these resources and bring our inner meaning into reality in order to maintain our sense of stability, security and comfort. This does not happen with the waving of Neptune's magic wand, but with the combined efforts of transiting Jupiter and Saturn over time. Transiting Jupiter provides us with opportunities to take action and transiting Saturn wants us to be realistic and practical in life. Transiting Jupiter reveals times when opportunities present themselves to us. In these times, we become inspired and sometimes we are rewarded for our previous and current efforts. With transits of Jupiter, what is most important is to first trust in the inspiration or opportunity provided by Jupiter, and second to take confident, passionate action to bring that opportunity into reality. Jupiter expects us to take action and rewards actions, but Jupiter will ignore inaction and potentially not deliver on the opportunities. Since we tend to have between 8 and 10 favorable Jupiter transits each year, you will not receive 8 to 10 new job offers or raises each year. But, you will find a number of times when your goals and intentions are met with favorable circumstances. When you take action during Jupiter transits, then you attract results and what you truly value! Transiting Saturn reveals times when we are tested by the Lord of Time and the degree to which we have been successful building our efforts so that the results are real and will stand the test of time. In contrast to Neptune, Saturn forces us to look at the reality of our situation, which is what Venus also wants us to look at - the results we achieve in the real world. In effect, Saturn shows us what we have already attracted.

6 The Traveler s Well Newsletter May 13, 2012 Venus Retrograde Page 6 Venus Retrograde is the perfect time to re-consider what we want to attract in the future. During this time of reconsideration, make sure that your values are properly aligned with your soul's goals. This way we have a solid platform to think what is most important to us and to make those visions, goals, desires part of our life - every day! During this time, we can rethink how we communicate our inner meaning to more effectively connect with the external world. This will focus our thoughts in a positive manner and helps to eliminate feelings of doubt and feelings of a lack of self-worth. To sum it up, Venus wants us to celebrate a happy and joyous life, but she wants us to choose what we attract carefully. Venus Retrograde is the perfect time to re-think what we want to attract into our life, by guiding us to reconsider what we attract. May you spend some time during Venus Retrograde to pick up her mirror and see the wonderful soul that you are and gain a better understanding of what you truly need and want in life! Return to Top

It is beloved for its brilliant blue color. It is also beloved when distilled into an Enzian Liquor! Have you heard of a Fairy Ring? In folklore, Fairy Rings are thought to be gateways into elfin kingdoms, or places where elves gather and dance. According to the folklore, a fairy ring appears when a fairy, pixie, or elf appears. Well, this was our mini Fairy Ring of daisies.

There was a crowd of about 4,000 gathered to watch this traditional celebration. At this locale, the pole was moved and lifted by hand. It is quite common today to use cranes.
