17 Partial Eclipse 11-Aug-2018 At sunset: maximum size eclipse (diameter) is 75% Wrangel Island: size will be 73,8%. No roads, National Park, high concentration of Polar Bears. Can only be reached by boat (1 or 2 months / yr) Look for an operator of expeditions by sea that goes there. Heritage Expeditions (N.Z.); Cruise starting 6-Aug but arrives 1 day too late at the island.

19 Partial / Annular Eclipse Partial or Annular Eclipses: With landscape With features With subject in front Without filter Is only possible with Sun very low above the horizon Best at sunset / sun rise: chose your location close to the green line

20 Partial / Annular Eclipse Composition is KEY Do no place your model before the bright photosphere (over shining) Calculate (estimate) size of your model in comparison to size of the Moon s disk. Move forward/backward, in function of focal distance of your telelens With an Annular: ideally the (at sunrise/sunset): the rising/setting ring is touching the horizon! Careful planning (see eclipse maps for location) Chose your location with unobstructed view to the horizon.

21 Partial / Annular Eclipse When Sun is too bright (more than a few degrees high) Always Use filter To combine landscape + Eclipse Sun: Hold a filter that covers the Sun only Some creativity to position the filter in front of the Sun to make it esthetically appealing e.g. with a photo model holding the filter

23 Total Solar Eclipse Within a landscape With special environmental features captured together with the eclipse With subject (e.g. near or in front of the bright corona) Always without filter When sun is low in the sky, use (small) telelens to get some details of surrounding + corona (streamers, prominences)

24 Total Solar Eclipse When Sun high(er) in the sky: use wide angle: to include horizon or other features (looking up), mountain, tree(s), lake, cactus For a wide scenery: consider panorama, capture of colours horizon, the edge of the shadow Let s have a look at some examples
