15 CLIMAT Message Project USAP manned (and AWS) stations had NOT been filing CLIMAT messages: South Pole Met. Office started Feb 2007 AMRC doing historic CLIMAT Palmer filed by British Antarctic Survey Wisconsin filing starter 7 AWS sites Testing using new WMO CLIREP software Based on lessons learned: McMurdo Station Palmer Station?? Additional AWS Historic (Siple Station, Plateau Station, etc.)? Funding/support Change to real-time emphasis

16 Data: NCDC observational data from , original electronic files still available for 1988 to the present Previously calculated averages and extremes have differences going by the observations unless temp and wind extremes from climate reports are more extreme Will produce new records in some cases Some missing data incidents will now be resolved New monthly climate reports will document changes (still to be done!) Complete historical CLIMAT messages present Delivered to NOAA/NCDC (first installment done) Available from AMRC/Wisconsin servers
