1 Florida Resources Emergency Hotline The Florida Emergency Information Line (FEIL) is a toll-free hotline activated at the time of an emergency to provide an additional resource for those in Florida to receive accurate and up-to-date information regarding an emergency or disaster situation impacting the State of Florida. The FEIL hotline is: The FEIL hotline is only operational during an emergency event; at all other times, a recorded message with general information about the hotline is available. During an emergency, the FEIL hotline is operational daily at set hours depending on the severity of the event. Please stay tuned to your local officials and/or log on to the during an emergency event for exact hours of operation. Those persons in Florida may access information from FEIL hotline operators on how to prepare before/during/after a hurricane, road closures and alternate routes, available/open shelters in host or impacted counties, shelters designed for special needs patients, hotels and motels that accept pets, boaters instructions for moving watercraft to safer ground, and re-entry information once it is safe to return to the affected area. 3 Finding Warming Centers Warming centers can be found in your area library, police station, senior center or school. Operating hours and accommodations at warming facilities vary; so check with the facility before you go. It s a good idea to bring a disaster supply kit with you. Items in your kit can make your visit to warming centers more comfortable, especially if your visit extends for several days. Many open centers coordinate with the federally mandated phone information system to communicate availability information. Locate a warming center near you by calling or You can also use these services to request a well-being check for someone who may be suffering from extreme weather, reporting inadequate heating in a residential building and more. Another way to find shelters is through FEMA s text message program. Just text SHELTER and your zip code to (4FEMA). After a Disaster RETURNING TO A FLOODED HOME DisasterAssistance.gov Provides citizens the ability to locate and apply for disaster relief. PUBLIC ASSISTANCE - Assistance is available for affected individuals and businesses after a Presidential disaster declaration. The 1st step for individuals or business that require assistance it to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Tele-registration Center : 1(800) or 1(800) (tty)

AT HOME Be sure you have adequate clothing and blankets to keep you warm. Have sufficient heating fuel in case you become isolated in your home and regular fuel sources are cut off. Store a good supply of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. Bring pets/companion animals inside during winter weather. Move other animals or livestock to sheltered areas with non-frozen drinking water.
6 If the pipes freeze, remove any insulation or layers of newspapers and wrap pipes in rags. Completely open all faucets and pour hot water over the pipes, starting where they were most exposed to the cold (or where the cold was most likely to penetrate). Maintain ventilation when using kerosene heaters to avoid build-up of toxic fumes. Refuel kerosenee heaters outside and keep them at least three feet from flammable objects. If you do go outside, watch for signs of frostbite (loss of feeling and white or pale appearance in extremities) and hypothermia (uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness, and apparent exhaustion). Seek warm shelter and medical treatment immediately for frostbite and hypothermia symptoms. IF YOU TRAVEL Have a winter safety kit in your car with water, food, first aid supplies, blankets, gloves, heavy boots, food, flashlight, extra batteries, and warning lights or flares. Let someone know your destination, your route, and when you expect to arrive. If your car gets stuck along the way, help can be sent along your predetermined route. Call *THP(*847) if you get stranded to be connected to the closest Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatch location. Call 511 for traffic information from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. STAY INFORMED Listen to NOAA Weather Radio for winter weather watches and warnings. Monitor local radio and television stations for updates on weather and road conditions. Download the ReadyTN app to get weather, road conditions and emergency preparedness information on your smartphone.
