5 STP-1 Mission Summary Atlas V Medium Class Launch Vehicle provided by Air Force Space Command through SMC/EV. Manifest Primary Spacecraft is Orbital Express (DARPA) EELV Secondary Payload Adapter with 5 auxiliary Spacecraft MidSTAR-1 (Naval Academy) FalconSAT-3 (USAF Academy) NPSAT1 (Naval Post Graduate School) STPSat-1 (STP funded with Naval & AF Research Lab experiments) CFESat (Los Alamos Nat l Labs) Launch Important First Launch: Total of 7 distinctly different satellites at two different altitudes/inclinations. Launch is scheduled for 1 Sep The initial launch profile is 492 km at a 46º inclination from Cape Canaveral. After deploying Orbital Express and MidSTAR, the booster will do additional burns to place the remaining four satellites in an orbit at 560 km and 35.4º inclination. On-Orbit Operations STPSat-1 and Orbital Express will be operated on orbit through the Det 12 Mission Control Center at Kirtland AFB. NPSat, MidSTAR, FalconSAT, and CFESat will be operated by the Naval Post Graduate School, US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy and Los Alamos Nat l Labs respectively. 5
6 STP-1 Firsts STP-1 is a complex mission with several Firsts : Use of EELV Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA) Use of an Integration Contractor for the Space Test Program (STP) Multi Launch and Early Orbit support from the RDT&E Support Complex (RSC) at Kirtland AFB STP mission involving seven spacecraft Flight on Atlas V for STP R&D (Class C/D) mission on EELV Atlas-V dual-orbit mission Single-engine Atlas V Centaur completing 3 burns ASTRO Booster Adapter STPSAT-1 NEXTSat MidSTAR-1 ESPA FalconSAT-3 NPSAT1 CFE not shown in diagram above 6
