3 The primary goal of the VVV Templates Project is to build a statistically significant database of IR light curves for the automated classification of the VVV variable stars VVV Survey in numbers survey area ~ 520 sq. deg. > 33 globular clusters > 350 open clusters ~ 10 9 points sources ~ 10 6 variable stars
4 Variability tree A tentative organization of variable objects
5 The starting point The necessary high-quality templates that are needed for automated variable star classification algorithms are not available in the near-ir Type N (CoRoT) N (VVV) RRab Lyrae EA-type Classical Cepheids For many classes there are no data at all!
6 The starting point Example of well-sampled" light curves from the literature (ab-type RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster Centauri - Del Principe et al. 2006).
7 The starting point Example of well-sampled" light curves from the literature (ab-type RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster Centauri - Del Principe et al. 2006). Proper light curves templates of ab-type RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster ω Centauri, by Jones et al. (1996). Templates data of this quality are seldom found in the literature.

12 We need (much) more data! We also started an independent monitoring of hundreds of (optically well-studied) variable stars in the JHKs bands, by securing observing time at several IR facilities across the world.

20 Facilities around the world IAC/TCS 1.5m Telescope + CAIN III Period-Luminosity relations for delta Scuti stars in open clusters Camila Navarrete POSTER 06 NGC7062 NGC1817 ABSTRACT Period-Luminosity relations were derived for low amplitude delta Scuti stars, from three open clusters, in J, H and Ks bands. The slope values found are in disagreement with the ones previously derived by King (1990). Nevertheless, we find that the slope values follow a behavior similar to that found for Cepheids stars, which is consistent with the expected ones for pulsating stars of Population I (Tsvetkov, 1988).

Right panel: VIRCAM@VISTA's 16 detectors, with Cen at the center of the focal plane.
25 Facilities around the world ESO/VISTA 4m Telescope + VIRCAM Such a project will lead to high-quality light curves for more than 250 variables, greatly exceeding, both in quantity and in completeness of each individual light curve, what was achieved in previous near-ir studies of the cluster.
