SSSSSSSSSSSSS getf You may not have noticed yet, but iread has been given a little revamp. Our old logo was, in truth, a bit too simple. So, we tested new logo designs, and here is our favourite. iread NEW GAME: WORD WHEEL New games are rocketing in at fullspeed this edition, and word wheel is one of them. You have to create as many words as possible containing the letter in the middle. ALL words must not contain any letters that are not in the wheel. Can you find the 9-letter word..? iread

10 A Day? Do your parents rattle on about eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day for a healthy diet? Now, new research claims that we should be eating 10 a day to help us live longer! Our iread team want to discover why this is so. Most experts agree that a healthy diet is more than what to eat or what not to eat; it includes plenty of water and enough protein to improve growth. A person s chances of getting a vital disease could be reduced by eating 800 grams of fruit and veg a day- almost eight million deaths could be prevented worldwide. However, others are concerned that the pressure of eating 10 a day could backfire; they might just feel that they just can t manage it. What do you think? We all love chocolate, now and then, but too much can be extremely bad for your health. Everyone s favourite chocolate company (Cadbury) has reported that they will be minimizing chocolate bars to help with reducing child and adult obesity. Here is a list of Meir Heath s favourite chocolate bars and how they have changed: Yorkie- 58g to 46g Wagon Wheels- 41g to 36g Twix- 60g to 50g Crème Egg- 39g to 34g Mars Bars- 65g to 51g Exercise is one of the most important parts of keeping the human body at a healthy weight. It also decreases the risk of developing a high blood pressure and many more dangers. Surprisingly, doing exercise can help a person to age. This may not seem necessary for younger people, but your body will thank you later because you have lessened the likelihood

of osteoporosis (a weakening of the bones at an older age). Many people think that you can eat what you like as long as you exercise. WRONG! A healthy body is made of our 5 a day- or 10 a day- and fitness. Speaking of exercise, our Meir Heath junior cross country team has completed the Sainsbury School Games Challenge by competing at Moorside High for a chance to run in the county finals. The amazing company which run the school games set a challenge at the start of the year to get one million participants- they have now completed that by a mile! At first, Year 6 ran with a whopping 2 laps of the field and a half at the end. Lily Ashton (a fabulous runner who has been competing with Meir Heath since year 3) told us about her journey and how she felt during the run. When I heard that I had to do 2 whole laps of the school field I felt that I couldn t do it because I had never trained to that extent. I tried to take bigger strides instead of littler ones which made me run faster. During the race I tried to think of myself completing it because it was that hard. At the end, I watched everybody else run and they all did great- well done Meir Heath. Finally, the results have arrived Year 6- Girls- through to counties Boys- through to counties Year 5- Boys- through to counties Year 4 - Boys- through to counties Year 3 Boys- through to counties Our mission is accomplished and we have found out the rules to a fit body: food and exercise. But seriously, could you do all of these things? By Tia Walford and Alana Ballone

Top 5 dangerous animals In our world, we have some pretty dangerous animals. Here are the top 5. 5) Box jellyfish. There are a number of species of box jellyfish, but they are all quite dangerous. The sea wasp box jellyfish is perhaps the most deadly variety. This translucent sea-dweller may not look all that menacing, but it is the most venomous animal on planet Earth. 4) Cone snail. Another ocean dweller to be wary of is the cone snail. It may not look like much, and you may easily mistake it for any other snail on the beach, but it is extremely deadly. Just one drop of its venom can kill twenty human adults. There is no antivenom, which means that if you are stung, you will almost certainly be dead within minutes. 3)Pufferfish. This is one of the most deadly animals inhabiting the ocean. They are deceptively cute, but

quite dangerous. When threatened, they puff out their protruding spines. The venom from their spines can paralyze you, causing you to stop breathing, resulting in death. 2)Stonefish. These fish are dangerous not only because they are the most venomous fish on the planet, but also because they are incredibly fast and also very hard to see. They are camouflaged naturally to blend in with the ocean floor. While they are only aggressive toward their prey, it is easy to make the mistake of stepping on one. The venom from the spines can cost you a limb or even kill you. 1)Humans. Humans are the only mammals that kill for pleasure. We don t even kill for our safety we just kill for the fun of it. Even though there are other known killers to man, we are even more of a threat to animals than they are to us. Our inspectors now investigate more than 140,000 complaints of cruelty and neglect every year. By Jacob Maskrey
