2 About SOCS and our Premier Soccer Program South Oakland County Soccer is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) youth soccer organization providing recreation and travel soccer opportunities to area youth. Our Premier travel program is a well-structured, comprehensive, youth centered, and economical program for athletes seeking to advance their soccer skills. USSF licensed coaches insure a consistent high quality program across all teams and age groups. Force (boys) and Storm (girls) Premier teams are formed after open tryouts in June. Multiple teams per age are grouped by skill level and all teams receive the same high quality training and coaching. We place teams in leagues and divisions based on skill level and competitiveness to provide for appropriate player challenge and development. COMMUNITY & COMMARADERIE Force & Storm Premier players come from all over south Oakland County. Players experience healthy peer-group interactions and learn how to build friendships while getting exercise. Parents enjoy sideline socializing, making new friends and the perks of carpooling. Parents volunteer as team managers, which helps keep costs reasonable and team fun a priority. WE WELCOME THE MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE More than other soccer clubs, we welcome kids with broad athletic interests who can balance their seasonal commitments to soccer and other sports. BALANCED TRAVEL & TRAINING SCHEDULE A typical season includes about 8 games plus a weekend tournament in cities like Canton or Traverse City. The away games are generally a minute drive. Training is twice-weekly. Bonus options include weekly Goalkeeper training and Friday technical and street soccer sessions. Playing winter indoor games and participating in summer training is highly recommended but not required. TRAINING AND FIELD LOCATIONS Our teams currently train at Tyndall-Norup fields and Catalpa Oaks Soccer Park. Premier home fields are located in Berkley, Ferndale, Oak Park, Madison Heights and Southfield. MULTI-LEAGUE PARTICIPATION MYSL Michigan Youth Soccer League MSPSL Michigan State Premier Soccer League (starts at 11 v. 11, however some teams are better placed in MYSL. I quickly developed a love for the job and enjoyed seeing the kids I worked with improve and develop as soccer players. Over the past 15 years, it has been a pleasure to share my knowledge of the beautiful game with hundreds of young soccer players, however over and above the soccer aspect of coaching, it has been and honor and a privilege to have been able to see the great young men and women they have turned into. Jacqi O'Shea USSF National D License NSCAA Level I Goalkeeping License NSCAA Level II Goalkeeping License Masters of Recreation & Sports Sciences: Coaching Education Bachelor of Science (BSc) Sports & Fitness Management Former West Chester United Soccer Club Coach (West Chester, PA) Former Canton Celtic Soccer Club Coach (Canton, MI) Former Player Troy University, AL (NCAA D1) Former Ohio University Woman's Club Soccer Team Head Coach Joel Curtis USSF E License USSF D License Candidate 2017 Bachelors Degree (BS) Psychology Former Michigan Rush Hamburg Club Coach Former Howell Homeschool, High School Coach 5 Years Coaching Youth Soccer "Coaching is an opportunity to pass on knowledge. That knowledge isn t only the correct technique to use when passing the ball, or the understanding of when to take the shot. It includes the life lessons and memories that come with working with young players. The life skills they learn through soccer-cooperation, time management, commitment, and many more-can be used throughout life to help them grow as a person. The memories they make with their teammates can last a lifetime. Being a part of all of this is the reason I coach." "I coach youth soccer because I enjoy sharing the love which I have for the game with children. Former US Men's National Team player Charlie Davies inspires me because of his incredible drive, and never quit attitude even in the face of extreme adversity. The most memorable moment I have as a soccer coach was winning the 2011 National Homeschool Soccer Championship with the Howell Cougars." Revised 6/22/17 p. 4
