3 2014 GAME NOTES HEAD COACH CONNIE MINER YEAR AT OAKLAND 2 nd ALMA MATER Nebraska-Kearney, 1979 RECORD AT OAKLAND Connie Miner joined the staff on Sept. 10, Miner brings 22 years of head coaching experience and over 500 career wins. Miner came to Oakland after heading the softball program at UC Riverside where she was the head coach from and was the associate head coach from At UCR, Miner helped bring the program from Division II to Division I and raised close to $20,000 per season for facility improvements. In , Miner was an assistant coach at North Carolina where she helped the Tar Heels achieve a overall record, including a berth to the 2003 NCAA Regional Championship in Fresno, Calif. Miner was in charge of the pitching staff that improved their team earned run average by two points at 1.61, 28th in the NCAA. She also tutored the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year Crystal Cox, who finished in the top three in every pitching statistic in the ACC. Before joining the Tar Heels, Miner spent four seasons as the head coach at San Jose State ( ). While leading the Spartans' program she coached seven All-WAC honorees, nine All-WAC Academic selections, and in her final season she had four All-WAC selections, including the WAC Freshman of the Year. Miner began her head coaching career at Eastern Michigan where she is the school's all-time winningest coach, posting a record over nine seasons ( ). She led the team to a pair of runner-up finishes in the Mid-American Conference, while earning Mideast Regional Coach of the Year in Her teams collected regional rankings in 1988, '90, '91, and '94. In addition, her 1988 and '91 squads were nationally ranked. Under her tutelage, Melissa Druillard earned MAC Player of the Year in During her time at EMU, Miner had one All-American, nine Mid-East regional selections, 18 All-MAC selections and 22 Academic All-MAC selections.
