1 CURRICULUM VITAE Personal Information: Name: Amir Salaree Office Address: #F482, Technological Institute, 2145 Sheridan Road, Evanston IL, Office Phone (US): Webpage: Research Interests: - Variations in tsunami propagation patterns due to changes in source and bathymetry - Uncertainties in tsunami simulation results. - Tsunami history of the Iranian plateau. - Acoustic signature of the basin margin earthquakes - Tsunami warning using acoustic methods. - Waveform anomalies of deep-focus earthquakes. - Seismometry - Data visualization theory - Seismic Hazard Analysis: what we know and what we do not - Earthquake hazard in the Iranian Plateau Education: 2011 Present Seismology PhD. Candidate, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences,, Evanston, IL, USA (Advisor: Emile A. Okal [emile@earth.northwestern.edu]) Project I - June 1990 Tsunami in the Caspian Sea In this project, I have addressed the viable scenario-models for a tsunami which occurred as an aftermath of the Rudbar earthquake (M w=7.4) in Iran. The modelings and consequently, the simulations were run for various scenarios (multiple variations of seismic, slump and mud-volcano sources). Majority of the simulations were performed using the MOST model developed by Titov and Synolakis (1998). Under supervision of Emile A. Okal, [emile@earth.northwestern.edu] Project II - Investigating the Response Functions of EPS Seismometers at This project was aimed at obtaining viable response functions for EPS seismometers at the Technological Institute F-Wing (EQ-1) and the Seabury Hall (AS-1) using a comparison method in which the recorded data were compared to those of an instrument with known (documented) response (e.g. STS-2). Under supervision of Suzan van der Lee, [suzan@earth.northwestern.edu] 2014 Seismology MSc., Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences,, Evanston, IL, USA I
2 Qualification Exam Committee: - Emile A. Okal - Suzan van der Lee - Donna M. Jurdy Earthquake Seismology MSc., Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran MSc. Thesis - Study of Seismicity of Makran By Modeling the Earthquakes, Using Body-Wave Inversion My Masters thesis was an effort to model the source mechanisms for earthquakes in the Iranian Makran and address the question of capability of western Makron of generating large earthquakes The modeling process was performed using the inversion of teleseismic body-waves, based on the method proposed and developed by Kikuchi and Kanamori (originally in 1982). The challenge of using teleseismic body-waves inversion in Makran is the small-to-moderate magnitude of the events in the region which limits any such study to very few events. I tried to show that the source mechanisms for the events included in my study are in agreement with an active subduction zone, the accumulated stress of which could culminate in the occurrence of great earthquakes (such as the M w=7.70 Khash earthquake on 16 April 2013). Under supervision of M.R. Gheitanchi, Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran (Evaluation: A) [mrghchee@ut.ac.ir] MSc. Seminar - Tsunami and Makran My Masters seminar addressed the history of tsunami occurrences in the Makran subduction zone. I also tried to introduced methods of studying these events (and tsunamis in a more general context) using computational and paleotsunami/paleoseismology methods. The project was inspired by a UNESCO tsunami hazard workshop in Tehran and Makran in which I participated in The workshop's preliminary results were also included in the published seminar. Under supervision of Morteza Fattahi, Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran (Evaluation: A + ) [morteza.fattahi@ouce.ox.ac.uk] Solid State Physics BSc., Department of Physics, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran Math\Physics Diploma, Roshd High School, Tehran, Iran Licenses\Certification\Educational Courses: August 2015 IRIS-EarthScope USArray Data Processing and Analysis Short Course, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.
