1 Dr. Mahesh Prasad Scientist F Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, 53, University road, Lucknow M.Sc. (Botany) from M.L.K. P.G. College, Balrampur, in 1979 Ph.D. Botany (Palaeobotany) from Lucknow, University, Lucknow in 1987 Area of Research : Teretiary Palaeobotany Siwalik Palaeobotany, Morphotaxonomy, Leaf architecture, Wood anatomy, Palaeoenvironment/ Palaeoclimate/ Palaeoecology, Plant Diversity and Phytogeography. Research Work:- Investigations were carried out on plant megafossils from the Siwalik sediments of India, Nepal and Bhutan, Pre-Siwalik sediments of Himachal Pradesh and the early Tertiary sediments of Deccan Intertrappean beds of Madhya Pradesh, Tertiary of N.E. India and Western India and Holocene sediments of India in order to build up floristic and biostratigraphy as well as to deduce the palaeoclimate and phytogeography of the area through the ages. Significant data has been generated that can contribute towards the interpretation of different palaeobotanical aspects. Isotopic study on paleosols from Siwalik sediments has been carried out in order to analyze C 3 / C 4 plants and to infer climatic changes in the Himalayan foot hills during the time span of 12-4 Ma by using isotope evidences of δ 13 C from both carbonate sediments as well as organic matter. Prize/Honours/Medals/Awards: Award of a certificate of commendation in 1999 and 2010 for the best presentation of a research paper in the Symposium/ convention organised by Indian Association of Sedimentologist. Chandra Dutt Pant Award in 1999 for carrying out best piece of research work during last 3 years Team Medal in 2006 to inculcate Team sprit and Collaborative integrated work in the Institute or in collaboration with other institution.
