1 CHAPTER 5 ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY AND SYSTEM LOSSES

2 REVIEW: Central Electricity Authority General Review 2006 CHAPTER 5 ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY AND SYSTEM LOSSES During the year gross electricity generation was GWh, out of which GWh representing 7.00% of gross generation was consumed in power station auxiliaries. Thus net generation available at the bus-bar was GWh. Electricity purchased by Public Utilities from captive plants was GWh and electricity imported from Nepal & Bhutan was GWh. Thus the total electricity available for supply during the year was GWh as compared to GWh during the year representing a growth of 5%. Electricity sold to various classes of consumers during the year was GWh and electricity exported outside the country i.e. to Nepal and Bhutan was GWh. The electricity lost in transformation, transmission and distribution system and electricity unaccounted worked out to GWh representing 31.25% of the total available electricity. Amongst all the regions maximum percentage system losses were in North- Eastern Region i.e %, followed by Northern Region with 36.19%, Western Region with 32.75%,Eastern Region with 32.29% and Southern Region with 22.63% losses. The percentage losses has been in transmission & distribution network corresponding to ultimate consumption within the State/UT based on net Import / Export. The various tables in this Section represent the Region-wise, State-wise and Board-wise, Transmission & Distribution losses, transfer of electricity between different systems and electricity consumed in power auxiliaries. 107
